How was the NVH compared to current Polo?
I did not take back to back TD for TDI and GT TDI. But I feel engine noise was less than current TDI. There were not much vibarations. But still you can make it out that it is a diesel engine.

re: VW Polo 1.6L GT TDI coming EDIT: Now launched

At 9.5-9.7 on-road Bangalore, the GT TDI is going to be a cool 2.5lac + cheaper than Vento TDi. Now my question is 2.5l premium is just for the boot?
I know vento has better rear legroom and may be minor features like leather seats, rear AC, but 2.5 lacs seems too much!

All of a sudden GT TDi looks a VFM product.

Lot of people are telling that the performance will be similar to vento.

Maybe the performance will be same as the vento, but a vento is a fun car to drive. Now that the wheelbase has been shortened thanks to vw plonking the 1.6 on to the polo, the car just got as fast as the vento and the short wheelbase means flicking the car got easier. I'm waiting for the official review. And to those wondering why hasn't vw released the car yet maybe they are waiting for ganeshji to bless the car before releasing it to the public.

Couldn't agree more here. With Vento like performance if not better, it makes terrific sense for people to go for GT TDI if boot space and rear legroom can be compromised

Am I the only one who thinks this is a rip off? This is over a lakh more than the 1.2 Diesel for an extra cylinder. Its priced equal to the GT TSI which has the fantastic DSG box.

Am I missing something?

Its called excise duty. And our government's lovely tax scheme, plus diesel car 'priced higer than petrol' model.

Having owned the 3 cyl variant, I can tell you its not as much of a rip off as you think. The 1.2 tdi is un-refined,has lots of lag and isn't very powerful, the vibrations aren't well controlled either. The 1.6 tdi is more refined, the vibrations are better controlled and offers far better drivability with significant performance gains too.

I agree however, that when compared with the GT TSI it is a rip off but that is thanks to our tax structures

Also, its all of a sudden VFM when compared to cars over a segments above, like someone has posted earlier.

The 1.6 Tdi is a gem of an engine. I drive a Vento TDi and is absolute monster to drive. The best part is you do 110-120 all day and still end up getting 17-18KM/l.

The only negative i see with engine is it sounds like a tractor. The note is not good as well. But once inside, good insulation mutes this to a large extent.

I always wished VW launched cross polo with 1.6 TDi, but now that its available in GT avatar, guess i should re think on cancelling my Ecosport booking!

This pricing looks good if compared with Vento Highline.

But difference with Rapid Ambition 1.6 TDI is almost in the range of 1.2-1.3 lac.

If discounts available with Rapid are considered, this gap would become more narrow.

Thank you Gentlemen.

But from my perspective, this is more motivating than ever to buy a GT TSI.

Considering the GT TSI has a better gearbox, a really cool trick cooling system, ESP and at the same price point - Can't help but term the GT TDI as a rip off.

I know GT TDI inturn is VFM when compared to Vento - but purely based on comparison to the petrol alternative, the petrol is safer, easier to drive and got more tech on it (like trick cooler and gearbox).

re: VW Polo 1.6L GT TDI coming EDIT: Now launched

1.6TDi on Vento is a brilliant engine. Coming from Petrol cars, I have tough time believing that it is just a 105PS engine (Tip: As I read on a TDi forum, "You buy the horsepower, but you drive the torque). Now, Polo with the same engine will smoke the competition. What you guys need to understand is that at the acceleration at lower gears will not be much (maybe even a bit duller than the 1.2 TSi), but at higher gears (3rd , 4th, 5th) the relentless torque of the engine will will pull you ahead of most of the things on the road.

How is Petrol Safer ? Petrol is more flammable than Diesels. In fact, Diesels have higher flash point, and hence less likely to catch fire.

What is better in Petrol ? (The 1.2 TSi)
Throttle response. Far crisper in Petrol. After driving a petrol Throttle response between both are like Knife Vs Hammer (Precision tool vs Blunt Tool with lots of power).
NVH
DSG
ESP

There was no specs sheet. So I do not know what PS specs are. But I could take a brief test drive.
Do you mind sharing if you took the test drive at BUB or Vidyut?
What color did you book and what are the options?
I called BUB and they said they do not have a test drive vehicle yet.
Colors they mentioned were Black / Silver / White (while TSI has Red instead of Silver, right?).

I'd called VW Palace cross bangalore today, they politely told me it'll take 2 years to launch the GT TDI

Wonder if it'll help going down to the showroom.

I have booked White. Other available colours are RED and Black. Same as TSI. I don't think silver is available in GT.

As I said in earlier post, GT is limited production. It will take some time for stock to reach all dealers. I think they have given stock to their top dealers. So check with other dealers in Bangalore also. In any case, official announcement is expected on 13th.
