Anyways I think this 1.5 TDI with the excise benefits will be a good boost for the Polo provided it's priced and packaged better than the Ford EcoSport. Also I will be really surprised if they launch it with a DSG gearbox.

If they mate the DSG with the diesel, I am sure there will be a lot of people to que up for them as autobox diesel hatches is something the market currently needs. There is this big gap in the market when it comes to automatic hatches and a lot of people sem to be accepting automatics with open arms. Ideally they could capitalise with the first mover advantage though it might turn out to be a very pricey option.

Don't think so the they would do so the 1.5TDI, if they were serious on the first mover advantage we would have the Vento TDI AT by now!

That is very true, but then they dint have a autobox on the polo 1.6 earlier and i was thinking from a pure perspective of making a hot hatch!

That will surely be a heck of a car. A solidly built car with a solid engine. I will be happy if the 1.6TDI surpasses the pulling power of the CRDI engine of i20.

So hoping that they launch it soon and hopefully do not over price it. I am somehow hoping for something around 8L OTR Delhi but afraid it would be much more then that. This car would certainly fulfill the current need of my Garage: Fun to drive hatchback and german quality.

Good news that its finally a manual they've decided to go with,leaves us a chance with mods should one need it. I hope they price it like the previous 1.6 petrol engine which carried a premium of 80k or so more than the 1.2 petrol,the enthusiasts will surely pic it up then. This combo 1.6TDI+stick shift should complement the Polo very very well. It looks like they'll sell 2 engines till they're both replaced by the 1.5TDI in 2014.

From the photo, this looks like the 5 speed gearbox from the standard Polo, rather than the 6 speed one used in the Yeti/Laura etc. So, this should give VW some scale economies and lower manufacturing cost for the gearbox as compared to the TSI model. If they are using the 1.6 TDI, essentially both the engine and gearbox are common with their volume model, Vento.

The only aspect that now remains to be seen is whether they are going to pull a rabbit out of the hat and surprise us with the derived 1.5 TDI version of the engine. That is the only hope we will get a compelling pricing, since then VW can get and pass on the excise benefits. If not, I feel the GT TDI will actually be more expensive than the Vento HL TDI. Hatches are actually more expensive to manufacture than equivalent booted Sedans. Plus, the GT TDI will have all the top end Vento features, and may even have a few over and above the Vento, like Hill Start Assist and ESC (if they carry over the same features as the Polo GT TSI). So, I feel we are likely to end up at 10 Lac+ ex-showroom price for the Polo Gt TDI.

Spotted a couple of left hand drive Polos coming out of the ARAI in Pune about three days back, a left hand drive Vento was accompanying them, couldn't read the badging properly as the cars were very dirty and covered in mud, but it wasn't surely just a 'VOLKSWAGEN POLO' badging, but the 'VOLKSWAGEN' was surely there unlike the GT TSI which doesn't have it!
