Re: Rumour: Fortuner to get 2.5 D-4D in India

If it co-exists with the existing 3L engine it will be a brilliant move by Toyota to cash in on the Fortuner brand which stands for bullet proof reliability and go anywhere attitude. The sales would double due to its lower entry level price and I easily foresee it crossing the 3k/month mark in sales.

No it doesn't. It has a regular turbocharger. The confusion began when variable-nozzle turbocharger (VNT) in the first post became VGT in later posts.

Re: Rumour: Fortuner to get 2.5 D-4D in India

People seeking an affordable Fortuner will be pleased with this news.
But I dont think this engine is very awe inspiring at all. Regular Innova users themselves say that the engine runs out of juice on the highways.
Will this Fortuner with the de-tuned engine come with Fulltime 4WD?

Let's not dismiss something off without even experiencing/driving it. Diesel engines are not about peak horsepower, it's the torque and the way it is spread defines its character. This engine makes very respectable peak 343nm, the off peak spread might be quite good too.

Going by my experience with the current Innova and Fortuner engines, my guess is this engine just like the current engines might have average refinement levels, fine for UV segement but a little crude to be passed off in a premium SUV.

You're right. But I was parroting one of my friends who knows a lot about vehicles.
Whatever it is, a lower powered engine doesn't automatically mean it is bad. Cases to the contrary abound I am sure.

Re: Rumour: Fortuner to get 2.5 D-4D in India

I don't know about the 2.5L D-4D coming to India soon but expect the existing 3.0Lto receive some updates.

In Thailand, Toyota have tweaked the 3.0L Fortuner engine from 163Ps to 171PS.

What's even more interesting is that the 4 speed AT box has finally been upgraded to a 5 speed one.

It's only a matter of time till Toyota in India exhausts their kits of the 4 speed AT and have no choice but to get the upgraded kits from Thailand since that's where the imported kits come from.

Good one Vid. Also on the wishlist is the 5 speed AT with 4wd on offer. That would make it a good package, though the wooden suspension has to be endured.

True about the torque, but 144 PS to speed/acclerate this 2.5 Ton monster ? Power to Weight Ratio ? and that too at 25 Lacs price tag.
Torque may help move this monster easily but power is required to sustain speeds on the highway. Imagine a situation where the Fortuner runs out of breath at 110 or 120 Kmph ?

PS: Any speeds above 120Kmph are not safe on Indian Road conditions and better not done in an SUV due to its high center of gravity.

Re: Rumour: Fortuner to get 2.5 D-4D in India

2.5 D4D would reduce the cost and make it more affordable. I feel even less power should be fine for the person who just does city driving and restricts to 100-120 on highway.

Agree with F-150. I dont hink Even expressways are safe enough to drive at 120+ owing to scant respect for traffic rules in india.

- Along with this I wish they launch the 2.7 VVTi Petrol Motor sold in Singapore and it should make the Fortuner further affordable. My usage would be around 7000 kms per annum only and it would suit my bill perfectly.

Even the XUV is for 16 Lacs OTR.

A 12 Lac drop in the price is next to impossible.

Wishful thinking Raj. W4 will definitely be less than 12lacs!

A 2.5L will make the Fortuner even more affordable for sure. I guess it could be priced somewhere near 18L ? Guess Toyota is facing quite some heat from the competition.

IAB says Toyota rules out 2.5L for India!
Quote:
Speaking to Indian Autos Blog at the launch of the new Toyota Camry in New Delhi yesterday, Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, squashed rumors of a smaller 2.5-liter diesel engine on the India-spec Fortuner. “Firstly, Innova and Fortuner already share the 2.5-liter diesel engine in certain markets. We looked at that option (for India) and we concluded that it is not a better option not only in terms of product manufacturing convenience but also looking at the customer demand,” Mr Singh explained
