Stumbled upon this interesting bit of news today that Hyundai Veloster may be launched in India. Given its love it or hate it looks, 3 door coupe styling and quite an eye catching style, it would be really interesting to see how the market responds, if its launched. Comes with a 1.6L, Dual-CVVT.
Hyundai India Facebook page had this yesterday along with a customer care number (098-7356-4645) to call up for further details.
Below is the thread in the international automotive scene sub-forum on this.

BTW, its on display in Capital Hyundai, Noida. When I called up the above number today, they said that they plan to launch this soon but did not divulge any other details. They took my mobile no. and mail id and said they will come back to me soon with more details.
Anyone else has more details about this?

if launched, it would be a VFM options for those looking for a couple performance car that can be used a daily driver. The only options is the Audi TT or the customized DC sports car.
Hyundai was first to launch tall-boy, fluidic design, Premium hatch(i20) and all successed. I gues this too would suceed as its a segment first in india. :thumbs up
Looking forward to this one!
Even if it is outrageously priced it should serve as a crowd puller in the showrooms affecting sales positively!
Now this is a great piece of news. The car looks really nice from the front but the rear is indeed a love it or hate it design. And if it is launched with that 1.6L double CVVT engine then it will be having a considerably good power to weight ratio. The hyundaiusa site claims that it has 138hp on tap. If the same comes to India, then
I am pretty sure it will be able to attract atleast the enthusiasts here which are still in the search of a powerful vehicle which can be used for city commuting as well.
I wonder, how will Indian market react to 1 door on the right and 2 on the left.clap:
Just FYI - Veloster is priced 15.5 lacs in the UK. If assembled in india, it should cost 12 lacs at the best.
Hyundai !! Bring it on.
This will be a daily drive sports car, that we can drive to work and pleasure.

If people really want performance, there is veloster turbo - eeks out 200 bhp from the 1.6 turbo. That would be a performance deal - especially if the price is going to be 15 lakhs or less. It is definitely quirky, but then if you don't really care about the quirkiness, it is fun little car. The driving dynamics are typically Hyundai - i.e. boring, so the engine and tech is the only thing that would save this car.
Why don't they just launch the i30? Though the veloster can bring in some thrills, its actually a pretty standard hyundai car and tad boring to look at. i've seen a few in sweden and i came back less than impressed. For 15lacs, i wouldn't buy it though at that price, the 200hp version does tempt me. :D But am sure we aren't getting that one.
I never knew Hyundai still made sports coupes ever since the Tiburon. Nonetheless this is a pretty good looking car. It has 2 1.6L engines. One is naturally aspirated while the other is turbo charged. I hope the latter comes to our shores at a moderately low price:D
