The column mounted shifter and handbrake has been confirmed by many auto sites but they say the space that has been freed up would be for the ladies to conveniently put their hand bags. So,I guess front bench might not be present.

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

Datsun Go Press Release excerpts!

Wth comparatively compact body dimensions (width – 1635mm; height – 1485mm; length–3785mm), the car is spacious inside thanks to a wide stance and large wheelbase (2450mm),and offers ample headroom and an expanded front seating configuration. It will be a reliablepartner for families, providing comfort to five occupants and agility in congested traffic.

The name of the new car is inspired by the first Datsun, the DAT-GO, launched almost acentury ago in Japan. Back then the cars brought mobility to people who had never dreamed.

I saw a photo of the gear shifter here:
http://www.motorbeam.com/cars/datsun...ions-revealed/

Looks like the front seat is not exactly a bench seat, but it can accommodate a small third person in the middle. Let's hope the middle person gets a 3 point seatbelt, and not a lap belt.

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

The first impression is "Really promising"

While the front bench seat isn't very great (no seat belts for the middle passenger), the head rests provided unlike Amby is welcoming.

The console, plastics and overall design seems perfect. Should be a nightmare for many like Altos, Eons, and even to i10s, sparks to a degree.

Welcome back Datsun! :-)

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

Looks good so now we have 4 players in the opening slot.
Entry level segment.

Maruti Alto - the current leader
Hyundai EOn
Chevy Spark - till they continue to sell it here or upgrade
and now Datsun GO!

The entry level customer in India should have been given this choice in 1985 itself, but at last here is the competition.

Position of the gearshift lever is so different here. A person used to driving this Datsun Go will find himself fumbling for the gear stick in other cars!

Very nice looking for an entry level hatch, this looks much better than the sick looking Alto 800 or the A*!

Ah! 2 Adults and 2 kids should easily fit there in the front seat with that bench like setup

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

Yikes! Shiny air conditioner knobs!
And a 3 colour tone for the interiors isn't looking appealing at all.
The gear stick is looking like as if it's showing its tongue to the competitors already (with handbrake looking like an winking eye) :P

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

I am unable to understand what the knobs above the HVAC unit and next to the cell phone holder are. Where does one fit ICE? There doesn't seem to be space even for a single DIN aftermarket unit.

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

Great minimalistic and mature design for a budget hatchback. Better than the Eon to some extent. I see bits and pieces of the interiors taken from the Micra. The stick shift placement should be very convenient but just from the looks of it, it feels rubbery. Grey interiors give a roomy feel. The steering wheel feels a bit oversize - a smaller one would have given it a more complete feel.

The baby blue color looks odd. The Go will look much more richer in a dark shade.

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

Looks promising to me. For the price they are targeting, its a worth product. But it should not be like other cars, below 4 lacs is the price of base variant ex show room Delhi I hate such pricing which is of no use to real world buyers. They need to make sure that its a < 4 lac on road for most parts of the India. From out side, car looks quite proportionate. Looks little like Micra, specially the roof part. Car will look very good in some good colors for sure.

To succeed, Nissan needs to make sure that they have maximum number of dealerships all over India, else its tough to beat Maruti, Hyundai.

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

In that 'baby blue' hue, the Go somehow reminds me of the Alto 800. It's not a looker, but it's not bad either. Inoffensive and not hard to digest.

Looks like the gear lever is not column mounted after all. It reminds me of the Rtiz's and the old gen Euro Civic's gear lever.

The front seats look like an amalgamation of bucket and bench seats. A nice concept for our sort of market. But there is a question mark w/r/t the 3rd passenger's safety and comfort over long drives.

Re: Nissan to revive the Datsun brand in India!

Cost cuttings visible..

To keep costs as low as possible, the Datsun GO has no separate headrests, no center console, no speedometer, no display for the radio, no fog lights, power windows only for the front and other such rupee-pinching changes.

Cheers!
