Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

The only thing which worries me is the space in the back seat. I am not sure if it would offer rear bench space,
even as much as the Fusion. Folks in the front wont be happy and the driver the happiest. But how would the
co-passengers on the back take this one; when on a long drive, is the question.

This was the other reason, I did not like the Fiesta, in spite of been blown away by the drive quality, ride and handling.
Because on long drives I felt Fiesta did not have enough space for one to feel comfortable.

Similarly I fee expectations for the Ecosport should be at best a comfortable 4 seater, with leg room availability on the
lower side.

Unlike Figo, which was built for to a cost, i don't think Ford wants to place EcoSport as a VFM vehicle. EcoSport will be a practical cross-over with good build quality. I did pay a lot of money for the New Fiesta, but i do not have any complaints on the car as the whole car has been put together solidly. I expect EcoSport to be built similarly, albeit, with better interior plastics and colour combination.

This water wading ability of EcoSport will be apt for India.

As road space is on a premium due to metro work, I would have thought a smaller car would be more useful. But if ergonomics are added to the mix, I agree a propoer SUV would suit you more.
On first looks, the Duster looks more Yeti' ish in size than a Safari. It should be more spacious than a Linea or a Fiesta for your knees. But of course you would test this yourself soon.

It would be interesting to see the alternate models which have succeeded in India. I think the Figo could have had better build quality, but it still succeeded. I hope Ford does not skimp/ cut costs on necessary things just because it worked for them with the Figo.
I would rather have a good quality product, even if it is rare on the streets than drive a low quality product which is bought by every third person on the road.

Looks department is far ahead of duster, no doubt about it. I would shout out loud with you "bring it on Ford, give the top-end to us this Diwali for 7 laks" A 100% localisation, its very much possible and it would be the same story of Honda Activa, if not better !

May be not value for money, but ford should not over price this piece like other did. Building the car in India and selling out side with lower cost. How do we justify that. Ford should not try to make all the profit from Indian market.

Oh I very well agree. But unfortunately the public has gone with the opposite, and hence manufacturers happily oblige with too many cost cutting measures. Coming to Ford, I always felt that their so called ‘rare on road’ products (Mondeo, Fusion, and the New Fiesta) were better than the highly successful ones. Hope they can strike a balance with the Ecosport.

Unfortunately VB, people who think like you and some of us do are in a miniscule, negligible, voice-less minority here as of this moment. Having said that, it is only a matter of time before the market upgrades itself.
The flip side is that by the time the market moves up, we also may have evolved further and our needs may have become different. Maybe by then I will be ripe for a Hybrid or Electric vehicle, purely from the point of view of reducing my negative environmental impact and carbon footprint etc.

The EcoSport certainly looks better than the Duster, though I am not a fan of narrow radiator grills and large air dams.

But by the time Ford brings it to India, I'm scared the government would have imposed a huge premium on diesel vehicles. If that were to happen, then I shall have to settle with the EcoBoost engine.

Welcome to the forum Sidharth! And what news have you brought for us here! Any idea if your firm is the only source of steel for them? Or what if they had planned for a ramp up in June with steel sourced from your firm as an additional source?

MAS,

Even I was ready to pay for the Diesel Titanium+ for the Fiesta, for the way it drives.
(I had almost started my paperwork)

What put me off was the back seat. We as the drivers, would really enjoy the drive, but other travellers really suffer.
That's what I always wanted to check with if most of your highway drives are solo?
(I remember you mentioned that you were out on the highways for official work).
If that is the case, Fiesta is the car for you. But if family has to come along for long distances, it just does not work out.

The reason I say this is because, Ecosport would have exactly the same problem, As I mentioned earlier, I dont know if it would have
the space even as much as Fusion. From that point of view I gave up chasing the Ecosport dream,

June 2013? That is too late . I have been waiting for Ecosport to be launched before deciding on Duster or Ecosport. I do not think Ford will wait that long especially since now that the Duster is launched. Hope they launch it max by Jan 2013.

And why not indeed? The EcoBoost from all accounts is supposedly wildly Fuel Efficient!

One more thing about the Ecoboost engine sound.. I saw a video in YouTube capturing the sound of the engine. Its not the same as the current Fiesta engine. Sounded little odd.. More like a mini nano engine ..

Sbala, not sure which YouTube video you are referring here. But the one which I saw (refer below) sounds sweet. Mind you the engine sound is with an open bonnet & the camera is very near to the engine, hence it is likely to get amplified. The engine here, I believe, is being revved till the redline or just below it, yet it sounds very smooth, nothing like that of a typical 3 potter. The exhaust note also sounds very sporty. Comparing it with a Nano engine sound is a bit too much. Nano is a 2 cylinder engine & sounds very coarse. You can make out the engine sound even from a distance.

Another video, where Andrew Fraser explains the 1.0L Ecoboost engine in the Ford Focus
