I just hope that this machine comes with a diesel option.

It would be a great move for the Indian Market giving some competition to yeti.

What MSIL will display at the expo, should be similar to this jimny concept

1. Suzuki Jimny (facelifted and with DDiS engine)
2. Suzuki Ertiga
3. Ford Ecosport (facelifted and with Ecoboost engine)
4. Renault Duster
5. Mahindra Mini Xylo
6. Force Motors SUV (unnamed so far)
7. Facelifted Toyota Innova (Avanza in international market)
8. Tata Merlin (new Safari)
9. Ssangyong Korando (price ~10 lac?)

With some addition/deletion from above list, a whole new category seems to open in 2012.

6.Force motors SUV?- You mean the Trax???
7.The Innova was just recently facelifted and is going to be shown at the Auto Expo. The Avanza is an entirely different vehicle and is from a class below.Sadly,Toyota does not seem to bringing it here, eventhough rumours are afloat.
9.Ssangyong Korando under 10lacs is a far fetched idea. None of the Ssangyong products will be priced below Mahindra's own stable.

That's a two door concept. A two-door car will most probably flop in India. They might be bringing in a new 4 door version.

Not sure if the above pic is photoshopped.

Sorry, I had meant updated Force Motors One but turns out that just two new variants will be introduced. Please exclude it from the list along with Avanza and Korando and add concept Hyundai's concept SUV.

Is this just a showcase or will Maruti launch this car at the auto expo.
I liked this car. This segment of Compact SUV will soon be hotselling segment as it is more practicle than owning full blown ones.

However all expected launches apparently would start delivering cars somewher around mid 12.

Rgds.

Am glad that Maruti is finally waking up - somewhat like Kumbhakarna!
For years and years (since around 2001-2002 in fact), some of my friends and I have been lamenting that there was no compact little Diesel SUV for urban/rural usage and many of us were forced to buy the bone breaking Gypsy and/ or the Mahindra Jeeps.

Hope this Jimny (if indeed it is the one destined for India) comes in with that gem of a 1.3 DDIS, 4WD, covered cabin, decent fit and finish like the Ritz and Swift and AC/Heater, Airbags, ABS etc like the Euro Spec. It will defnitely be a good buy, being from Maruti. Its short wheelbase, narrow, low roof dimensions, and short overhangs will make it a potent off road machine too, perfect for narrow estate roads and such.

Wonder what it will be priced at though - perhaps around 8-9 lacs on road (BLR) or so? If indeed this pricing is met, then I am sure it will give the dated, boring, ill finished Thar a solid run for its money!

I doubt that the Jimmy is heading India Way.

What i see from these sketches is that most of the current cars will be Skirted / Defuserised.

1) Value - Alto with some rework and new graphics along with some new design elements.
2) Authentic - Its definitely the Wagon R with new graphics along with some new design elements.
3) Spirited - Its the SX4 with some new design elements.
4) Sporty - its the Swift in sports ware.

The only new launch is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. And might also show of few concepts by Suzuki.

This is quite possible that MSIL would bring Jimny to India, however picture shown here is the previous gen model. They must have worked upon the car to make it India friendly.
Also I hope the DDiS badge denotes the 1.6Lt engine that fiat is working upon for MSIL.

I agree. A 2 door just wont work in India. Hope that Maruti launches a 4 Door SUV with the diesel powerplant and soon. I think its long overdue, and will be able to pull in decent numbers.

Wow. Thats so good news for the end users. More competition definitely is a boon for us. I am looking forward for the launch of Merlin. If they price it well, they definitely have on customer for sure.

it looks like the jimmy is on motorcycle tyres!!its sad to see the exterior design of this car has hardly changed in 10 years, makes it less exciting now.i remember seeing it in 2004 auto expo,it was a little exciting then but not anymore in my opinion.

What Maruti should give us is a plucky little off-roader. Something that the Gypsy was. Give it creature-comforts and price it bang in Duster/EcoSport territory. Now that will cause quite a stir, wouldn't it.

Base it on the Swift. It would be the perfect platform, in my opinion. A taller, slightly bigger and more spacious Swift with part-time 4x4 that is more than capable - and powered by the DDiS-diesel-mill/K14 petrol-mill - will be such a hit!

MSIL, are you listening?
