It's the same story at Kothari Wheels. At13.6lacs OTR (5yr / 1lac km warranty, 1yr 0 dep +3yr 3pty insurance), this zdi+ car is bloody expensive! Also, the SA mentioned that Petrol has 3-4mths of waiting and Diesel has 1-2mths. Interesting that he said the BS4 diesel is likely to be sold until at least September.

Going OT I guess with my experience after driving both cars...

It comes with fabric seats, beige flooring (!), hard / cheap plastics mostly, misses some knick knack features (coat hooks, under seat storage at front, rear parcel shelf..), no underbody protection, just acceptable build quality and impressively negative acoustics when it comes to outside noise filtering into the cabin. It just doesn't feel built to last when compared to my 6yr old EcoSport that is now running in 90k kms range. My EcoSport has zero i.e 0 squeaks or rattles even today. And then the NCAP rating and report feedback also weighs on my mind.

That rant over, it feels roomy even at the back. The massive glass area makes it really airy and bright. The 2nd and 3rd row seats are both acceptable and the slide/incline/fold functions allow you to manage seating space really well! The floor seemed easy for senior citizens to get in and out i.e. very sedan like. The 1.5 diesel is super refined and the car is very easy to drive. Wifey can easily drive this car too. Maruti reach in terms of ASS, am sure the mileage is right up in high 14-15s too.

Now thinking of which car under 15lacs ticks all the same boxes as Ertiga and also seats 7, the answer is none. Very compelling proposition if you can live with the short comings.

Going to drive the Marrazo and Ertiga tomorrow back to back and see how it feels. Also waiting for a quote for the Marrazo M8. The Marrazo doesn't feel like a Mahindra but somehow, it just didn't feel polished on the inside. Doesn't mean the quality of materials is worse than Ertiga, it's just that it doesn't gel together. I mean the Ertiga uses hard plastics and cheap materials from the common parts bin but they seem to be well put together compared to the Marrazo. Or maybe am just wowed by the improved Arena experience compared to that of Unnati motors. Maybe the 2nd look at both will even things out..kinda feel biased right now towards the Ertiga.

That's the only reason my cousin wanted to have a look at the Ertiga. Test drove the Marazzo as well, but with the top end M8 going above 17 lakhs, it was too expensive for him. Rest of the variants felt too bare bone. The search continues and going to have a look at some used car options as well.

Re: The "NEW" Car Price Check Thread - Track Price Changes, Discounts, Offers & Deals

I am currently considering between Honda City VX CVT and Maruti Ciaz Alpha AT. Test drove both the cars and it should not be a surprise that I found City to be better when it comes to driving. Ciaz was itself not too bad either.

However, given the cost I will have to settle for a City VX or V, while I can get top end Ciaz Alpha AT for even lesser.

While I still await the 2020 prices for the Ciaz, I got a quote for City yesterday from Viva Honda.

Honda City VX CVT BSVI
On Road Mumbai - INR 16.06 L
Honda Discount - INR 27 K
Exchange Bonus - INR 25 K
Also, offered about 30-40K discount if I can book the car immediately. Considering stretching a bit more (if possible), I think can close the deal at 15 L.

Shall I expect more discount, given the 5th gen City is expected in near future?

Or Ciaz will still be VFM and a fairly decent drive, despite the January price hike?

Pleased have your thoughts.

Just had a word with Isuzu Delhi dealer representative that the Vcross has a discount of 2L and MUX has a discount of 2.5L upfront on all the balance stock. They don't have the auto Vcross though. Anyone who's interested can contact them directly.

Turns out the Telanagana High Court has ruled in favor of the Consumers, Cheers!

This is a verdict from the High Court reaffirming the ruling of the Consumer Court. On a more practical note, the ridiculous amount of tax paid, especially on luxury cars, is daylight robbery when you consider the pathetic conditions of Indian Roads. It's ironic, that the State argues in Court that calculating road tax based on the discounted price is UNETHICAL and FRAUDULENT! I say the real fraud is played on us, the Buyers, by being forced to pay exorbitant amounts for truly horrible roads.

This *could* partially encourage using black money in car purchases!

If it happens that cars are sold by dealers partly with a cash component (just to state a lower discounted price on the invoice for availing lower road tax slabs), especially in states like Karnataka where the road taxes are high, then it can be misused & cause loss to state revenue (as well as possible income tax evasion to the central government).

This isn't really that great news for those concerned that states are running under a serious fiscal deficit.

I'm quite sure this judgement will be appealed against.

There will be another hike for BS6 variants?

My take is that these price hikes are to mask the difference between BS6 and BS4 vehicles. So when BS6 is introduced(starting from Altroz on mid Jan), there isn't much difference.

Yes, most probably.

You got it, that can be the sole reason behind the current price hike. And this tactic/strategy is not unique to Tata, in-fact Tata learnt it from other manufacturers.

I think it would have made more sense if they hike the prices at the launch of BS6 rather than arbitrarily increasing the price without any feature addition or any changes to justify the cost. This may effect their sales till they launch the BS6.

That's a 65k hike on the Harrier from its introductory pricing in 1 year overall. The BS6 hike may make that hike over 1 lakh rupees. Tata must add more features if its to attract customers away from Seltos, MG and the upcoming Creta and Xuv.

In a way I feel happy I got my Nexon before the price hike, even though I seem to have tonnes of minor niggles with the car.

Very true. The Harrier base variant XE is close to 17L on road in Karnataka. Forget about drive modes, it has no music system and not even remote central locking. You need to walk to vehicle and open the car with key (despite paying 17L) Same with Hexa, over the years features are deleted and the price is increasing.

Just because successful competitors are increasing the price, Tata shouldn’t be increasing the price without adding extra features.
