I voted for XUV5oo as not only this offer more value per buck, this also is going to change how car makers are going to price their products in future. Close 2nd was Rapid followed by Brio and Eon.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

I feel that almost every car on the list is better than XUV500 in terms of quality, reliability and A. S. S.; but, still voted for XUV as it is the most value for money. It redefines what one should get at this price. A lot of cars on this contest are superior to XUV, but, car manufacturers need to learn than providing good quality cars doesn't allow them to loot/hugely overcharge their customers (i am pointing towards competitor luxo SUVs here). We deserve to get X-trails, CRVs, T-forts, Pajeros, etc. at 14-17L in india if manufactured here, instead of assembling/importing them. This effort from Mahindra will force global manufacturers to do just that. Hence, my vote goes to XUV. Not saying that the product is perfect.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

Voted for -

XUV 500 - although the template is from SsangYong (and in turn Mercedes), Mahindra has placed it in a price spot too sweet to resist. it is the game changer in the SUV market.

1st Runner up -

Liva / Etios - Toyota has dedicated these 2 cars to India, and has spent considerable effort and time to map Indian requirement. I am not sure how if any other manufacturer has so far built a master template in India and then done a global roll-out (Good Job Toyota!!)

2nd Runner up -

Nissan Sunny - great form factor, very spacious, renowned Nissan reliability but drab interior

Voted for XUV500 just for its VFM. Kudos to Mahindra for making such a world class product and making other manufacturer's think upside down.

Why there is no mention of the iconic Mahindra Thar?
If it was there on the list, I would not vote for the XUV.

My vote goes to Hyundai Verna:

Reason: Verna has created the most ripples in the C and C+ segment and forced the industry to relooks at the C segment pricing.

=> Customers got more bang for their buck.
=> Value For Money
=> Huge Feature List
The ultimate winner : Customer.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

Voted for the XUV 5oo because acceptable levels of quality and a great feature-set, and has taken on the imports when no other Indian manufacturer (including and especially Tata) has been able to so far.

If it weren't for the excellent pricing of the XUV, it may not have had so many takers or votes. As Tata has found the hard way, average quality from an Indian manufacturer is accepted, but being seen to be over priced is not.

Others that I considered were the Brio, for being a great alternative to the petrol Swift. Unfortunately the majority of Swifts sold are diesels, so the competition is not really there. The Nissan Sunny is also a great car at a decent price for the average buyer, and the cost cutting is not as obvious as in the Etios. The limited sales/service network and lack of a diesel option are an impediment Nissan will hopefully remove soon.

I vote for the XUV500. Quite a strategic move by M&M. Seems like they have moved up another step in their evolution after the Scorpio. The Eon was a close second for me. as it brought in the element of style and design at the entry level and will now force the others to raise the bar.

Wasn’t it launched in year 2010? Maybe that’s the explanation.

Just put in the 1000th vote for the XUV5OO.

Game Changer - Definitely set a new benchmark not only in the SUV space but even in the segments above.

I have voted for XUV 5OO
IMHO XUV 5OO is an absolute vehicle for my hard earned money. I find the XUV more desirable to the heart, price not withstanding. Infact the pricing is the icing on the cake for me.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

Over 1000 votes for the XUV 500...Whoa!! I think it's the first time that a car will be winning this coveted award by such a huge margin(~60%). Way to go Mahindra and the XUV deserves it too. I voted for it
OTOH, if the Nissan Sunny had been launched in its diesel avatar, it might have changed the charts and would be a worthy contender to the COTY. The diesel sunny is the best all-round package in the entry-sedan category according to me.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year 2011. EDIT : Mahindra XUV500 it is!!

SUVs have some kind of a universal appeal which make them an object of desire anywhere in the world. Probably because it triggers the masochistic bug in most. However one hindering problem has always been the high price of such vehicles which stops many from thinking on those lines. What was started by the iconic Safari and Scorpio in India, that of providing an affordable "SUV" to the masses, has now been taken the full circle by the XUV. The very fact that a single vehicle can polarize the opinions of so many driving enthusiasts and cause such a huge logjam of people outside the showrooms and then queue up long after the bookings got closed gets XUV my vote for COTY.
