Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

My fav FWD family car is scooped and good to know it's headed our way.
But can't be sure if it's CBU or CKD route,
anyway one thing is sure that the Camry won't come with a diesel heart(unless they launch the euro market Avensis here or plonk in the Avensis diesel engines( 3 engines ranging from 2.0l to 2.2l) on the Camry just for India.

Not too sure all will be backseat drivers if launched at the right price with a appropriately powered diesel auto.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

Yes. this is the new 2012 Camry. Come December the Corolla Altis production will be assembled at Plant 2 and this will enable Toyota to free up around 300 units of production towards Camry and the rest towards Innova/Fortuner.

Will pull out some more details from my contact.

By the way which diesel engine is Camry available internationally?

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

This is a Team-BHP exclusive! Superb Scoop rangakishen!! This is the 2012 Toyota Camry for sure. I highly doubt the existence of a diesel under the hood. Although it is indeed the demand of the time in our country, these manufacturers never seem to get this right. And as far as I can recollect there is no diesel variant in the Camry even in the international markets.

I hope I'm proven wrong by Toyota. Hope this Lexusy Camry comes with an oil burner option, equipment loaded to the gills through the CKD route which would make it rightly priced as well. Do these things, it could be in a shout of dethroning the segment king, the Skoda Superb. The T-badge can then work its magic if the above parameters are checked.

What we could optimistically look forward to is the 3.0L D4D engine from the T-fort tuned with refinement levels for a luxury saloon.

Why do companies end up acting so stubborn. Doesn't Toyota learn from the Accord story? And even there own current generation camry hardly finds buyers. Most of the units are sold to the Hotel industry if I am not wrong. Without a diesel heart whats the point of even trying to launch a new model? I hate this half hearted approach. Either don't bring in a product at all or bring it in the variants which will actually sell in the market in line with current trends.

We all want a diesel, but most companies are interested to 'market what they make' rather than 'make what they can market'.

I think its high time Toyota gives its Camry a redesign. This Camry looks like it borrowed its grille from its Lexus cousins. Don't you guys think so?

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

In today's economic scenario, a person buying a 30+ Lakh car keeps a tab of his running expenses (or wants it to be on the lower side)

Toyota would benefit by bringing its oil burner in its Camry. IMHO, looking at the way Toyota has reacted to Indian market requirements, this prayer will come true sooner than later.

I agree to an extent with that thought. But I have always wondered whats the break even point for any car maker? Do they judge it model wise or as a whole? Toyota is hardly able to sell the Camry in India owing to insane prices due to CBU and the Petrol only option. In a market where in the coming years I feel the main focus will shift to the D segment. Just like in the last ten years people have increasingly started to go for premium hatchbacks and C and C+ cars. Why not put a diesel engine in the Camry just for India if they do not have such a configuration available abroad. A company like toyota must be having enough resources and expertise to do that right?

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

What happened to the family toyota grill. After seeing the previous Gen camry and then making the corolla look like it, I thought they would make it a family grill for all Toyota Vehicles. Following the trends that some of the other manufacturers are following.

I am not a big fan of forcing all the cars withing a brand having a family grill.
I like the new camry and looks very Accordish and the grill is Lexus'ish.

Some Japanese market Toyotas especially the Crown series have grilles like this one. But the Jap market Camry's grille look similar to the American version. The South East Asian version in Brunei has a similar grille to what we see in the spy shots in question. But it is perplexing that the hybrid version in Thailand gets the American grille.

+1.

I'm glad someone brought this topic up! The new Camry 'looks' atleast a generation older than the current one! And worse part is, the grill and front end now resembles the design language of its chief competitor - the Honda Accord.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

Excellent scoop! I really hope they bring it in through the CKD route. It will put up a real fight to Accord, Superb and Passat if priced correctly.

The front fins looks the Ukraine model. The japanese model has a different fin altogether.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

This for sure is the New Camry! Great scoop! I'd read about it in ACI a few months back, but was shocked to see only petrol variants being offered and no diesel option.

May be they will launch it a few months after the petrol variant is launched ? Petrol would've touched Rs.80 by the time they bring it in, and they surely will be at a disadvantage compared to Skoda/Volkswagen.

Imagine what havoc it will wreck if launched with a diesel mill, at around 25L OTR.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

I really doubt if it will come with a Diesel engine here. If it comes with Diesel, it may be the AD series 2.2 litre Diesel. A competitively priced Diesel + Automatic will make it a really popular car. I hope this doesn't end up just being a image making car for Toyota, just displayed in showrooms like the Prius(and Pheaton/Toureag) to showcase Toyota's capabilities.

The KD series engines from Innova and Fortuner are unrefined for a luxury sedan. These engines are only used on chassis based utility vehicles. The Fortuner engine even under the hood of Prado feels crude.
