Its a very simple engine to rebuild. Just make sure you have sourced all the genuine parts and go to a reputed garage.
On bikes , I've seen pistons rings being changed in the pits 1/2 hour before a race.

It is great to see a dedicated thread for the Premier 118 NE. Kudos to all owners who keep this car going on the roads! Apart from the fact that the body of the 118 NE is prone to rust quickly, there is no other drawback in the car. It has a smooth Nissan A12 engine, very comfortable interiors, large boot and the superslick gear box. No other car that I have driven till date had this kind of gearbox. A finger is enough to change gears! Although the car demands frequent attention, the effort / hard work put in is always rewarding! :thumbs up

I used to own this maroon colored beauty for almost 1 yr.I was the second owner and bought it in 1999 and sold somtime in 2000.
Was really impressed with its handling ,gear box and superb engine.The seating was also extremely comfortable.
I still remember the first long drive i did in that to Velankanni when my son was 2 yrs old.

HI all,
Following a DIY front RHS disc brake reconditioning and bearing replacement, at last I found some time this sunday for the left hand side. After removing the disc & brake caliper, I was really shocked to see that the connecting rod between the tie rod & the left wheel had a crack near the ball joint mounting. It appeared like with in a few kilometers it would have completely ripped off. By God's grace I somehow motivated myself to take up the repair job on Sunday. I have placed an order with my regular spare part shop guy. Hopefully I ll receive them by Tomorrow.
As well the vaccumbooseted is little jammed, that the pedal doesnt completely return back. This happened beacuse there was an oil leak from the cylinder into the booster. So I would like to know if there is a way to clean the stuff and reuse the same booster with a new MC or else the only solution is to buy a new booster itself.
Great to see a thread dedicated to the good old Premier 118 NE. I never even thought there would be a thread dedicated to this car. :thumbs up
We owned a Premier 118 NE 1991 model Maroon colour for almost a decade. It was a real charm but had to get rid of it a couple of years back due to parking problems. Now this thread really makes me feel nostalgic. I will try to dig out and find pictures of it. :)

I am new to this thread. I pretty recently purchased my very own 118NE. Its a sky blue color car. Since childhood i always wanted to have one. But of course everybody couldn't afford to own one. My time had come now.clap:
So i finally saved some money off my salary. And bought my 118NE sky blue color. Its a November 1996 model. so relatively new. i think 1997 was the last year of its manufacturing. So its run about 85000 kms. i bought it for about Rs. 35000/- i didnt really care for the money. i just wanted to buy it. and now im getting the ownership transferred to me, getting the insurance made, got the emission certificate also done. The car is in ok condition, but needs servicing. I will post photos as soon as possible.

Congrats AJ on your new buy. You may contact our fellow team-bhpian "Funkykar" for any info or guidance for maintaining your NE. He is a Bangalorian and got an 118NE for himself.
Finally procured the tie rod ends, the connecting piece and set to work. For the jammed booster and the TMC, I preferred to go for a new one. Due to non-availability of brake booster & TMC and monopoly of sellers I had to shell out a 1000 bucks over the MRP for the TMC. That was difficult to digest, yet had no choice but to but it from him. Set to work at about 11:00 AM and was done with brake system by 4:00. Then started off with the removal of old tie-rod ends. But removing them was difficult without the proper ball-joint puller. So had to take help from the local mechanic who did it for free. Measured the centre distance between the old ball joints and adjusted the new ones for the same centre distance. Fitted them back. It was time to bleed the brake system and was all set to go for a test drive. Everything seemed ok, so I parked the car and had a peaceful sleep.
The next day I took the car for a longer drive, and found that the engine wouldn’t pull as before. Yes, it was a jammed brake. Took to my regular mechanic, who suspected improper bleeding of brake system and did it for me. Still the same issue cropped up this morning. Upon storming my brain, I guessed if the booster is in pressed condition while the brake pedal was in home position. This time, I went to the same mechanic and asked only for man-power and I was provided with one. Step-by-step I explained him the procedure and he did the setting upon my instructions. Upon removing the connecting the pin, the booster's plunger moved a little outward confirming my suspicion. The lock nut on the plunger rod was loosened and the connecting eye-piece was given a few tunes to move it inside and align properly with the pedal. Everything was put back, and yes now the brake feel is simply superb. The pedal feel and braking is comparable with my dad's Ikon. Of course I had replaced the rear wheel cylinders a few months back. So it is like the entire brake system is brand new, except for the steel pipes and the rear brake shoes. That was a good learning in the past 2 weeks.
Have seen many NE's i always felt, the lighting in the meter console is "pathetic"
Did some design changes and got them implemented by a well known meter specialist today.
And the results are "AMAZING"
Also the clock had failed, got one replacement clock.

STOCK, the NE meter assembly has only 3 bulbs, But now after the modification there are 7 Bulbs installed. A DIWALI effect.clap:
My friend (Car owner) had been complaining since long on the poor meter console lighting, luckily got some free time today and attempted this modification, which as per me is paid off.
My friend will be happily "shocked" to see this.:D
The needles are painted with a material called FLASH.

I enquired with a mechanic regarding a paint job for NE, he said about 8k. is that ok ?
Also needed to know how much would a fullt body service approximately cost? kindly advise guys. thanks.

Hi Aj,
8K is a nominal cost for a rough painting job.
Just get into the details of his scope of work. You can imagine the result you shall get.
1. Same colour or different
2. Are you removing the dashboad, door panels, lamps, front grill, rear number plate housing, side strips (if any) & bumpers while painting.
3. Which brand of paint & how many coats?
4. Is this cost inclusive of an underbody coat with the chassis paint.
5. How skilled is he? Have you seen other cars painted by him.
Personally I would not like to see traces of sprayed paint on the window glass beadings, edges of glasses, etc. Hence I would be interested in removing and refitting the above said components which would add some additional cost.

Although i am not an expert in this field but have been inquiring about the paint job as my car is due for the same. From the price you stated i think the painter is referring to the overcoat of same shade(oil based Duco paint) on the existing one with out removing the fittings and all. Do keep in mind that tinkering and material would be additional. 8k job is good if you want to get your car restored in near future. It acts as a protection from weather, heat, corrosion et al. till the time you take up the full restoration job. So choose wisely and do keep us updated on the progress.
