To the logical buyer, the Jazz is supposedly 'Honda quality', urban runaround at a lower price than the ANHC - a receipe to set the charts on fire. However, buyers in India would like to think of Honda as aspirational (see the ads doing the rounds) and a smaller, 2 box car in the same price range just doesn't fit in with that image!

Ditto with the A-star. Its the global replacement for the Alto made in India but is languishing in India! Thats because for its size and category, it does not come across as VFM.

Both these cars may still be successful if the pricing adjustments are made. MSIL is happy exporting A Star and selling the Alto in huge numbers. Alto was also a slow starter, but once the pricing was rationalised it started selling in droves.

In India you cannot sell a stripped down hatchback at the price of a sedan and expect it to succeed. Hyundai has understood the Indian buyer better by equipping the I20 with all bells and whistles and can barely keep up with the demand. Having a diesel variant helps as well.

If Honda prices the new Jazz variant well, it may well turn around the fortunes of the car as well as the company. (City sales post price correction are a case in point)

Re: July 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

macro economics are playing in disguise in India now, it affects automobiles very clearly, like home interest rates. While the interest rates are close to 0% in the US it will rise in India which will inturn fuel our inflation.

We can see that already in the sales drop of all models. This month sales will be interesting to watch as this is a clear mid year, no financial benefits (like depreciation etc). No festivals, which means its a clear "I really need a car" buyers buying in this month. This will serve as the denominator for all future benchmarks.

As the global demand for fuel in low in this month (its summer in the northern hemisphere) the pressure on the fuel index is also low. So this month is really a good month to watch, but then, that's the story for the next edition, just wanted to share these thoughts lest I forget it!

Are they still selling this model? I just loved it when it was launched, sadly my Ikon had to go, as i was travelling out of country.

Maruti will anyways make up for this. Not a matter of concern for India's Biggest car makers.

I am waiting for GTO's August sales report. So exciting it gets on the first of every month

May be its hard to digest but is not MSIL slowly loosing the the market share ? I believe they have lost also most 10% of market share in recent 1.5 years.

However I would like to see more variety of car in Indian market rather than just MSIL car

Re: July 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Traditionally June/July/Aug months are not heavy selling period, its post Aug that the sales pick up with lot of festive season coming up. So I guess it should not be affecting Maruti in any ways. Also the Manesar plant issues has been bogging the sales down for Maruti which I hope they will be resolved before the peak season starts.

Re: July 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Friends I just can't that believe Honda sold 5,819 Cities last month.

I guess City is number one selling sedan now!.

Quoting from Honda website " Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. (HSCI), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, registered an impressive growth of 25% in August 2011. The company reported a robust 6,907 units in sales for the month of August 2011 as against 5,518 units in August 2010 making it the highest ever for the month.

This remarkable growth in sales is fuelled by the sales of Honda City. The company sold 5,819 units of the Honda City in August 2011 registering 35% growth from the 4,251 units sold in August 2010.

Model wise break-up: Jazz: 600; City: 5819, Civic: 330; Accord: 132, CR-V: 26 "

PS - As the new thread is not started I am posting it here.

Honda is back and how! Not only the City, the Jazz is up and even the Civic is up. Good move by Honda as the price corrections have really brought back the City and Jazz into contention.

^^ HUGE rise in City sales.
Would be interesting to see others C series model sales.
Jazz numbers are still not reflecting the flocking it created.

Thanks man!!!
Good to see City back in action. With the price correction, people are actually able to buy this car. Above all it will put the over priced ANHV in it's place.
The best part is City has just petrol whereas all the other competitors have diesel too !!!

Wow, those are very impressive figures from City. Just proves that the H logo still has a lot of brand value.

The city figures are even more noteworthy since it is Petrol only. If Honda somehow manages to have a diesel mill in the city, City could achieve mind-boggling numbers. Most models like Swift have an 80-20% ratio between diesel and petrol. Who says petrol models don't sell?

Jazz not so impressive, the expected surge in Jazz sales should reflect in the next month.

Re: July 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Good to see the Honda city figures back into 5K+ numbers. ANHC has benefited the most from the price cut, hope it does the same for the Jazz

I would love to know the NFF figures, anybody have Ford sales breakup details.
