Insurance Renewal Post Due Date

My friend's bike insurance ended on Thursday and he was stopped and fined by police on Friday when he was taking the bike (for inspection) to renew the insurance. I agree we must try to renew it before due date, but once in a while people do miss things.
Do Insurance companies perform inspection at residence/office for extra charge in these situations? Forget about paying fine, it is dangerous/costly/illegal to drive an un-insured vehicle.
Does anyone know of insurance companies who inspect the vehicle "onsite"?

Yes - Insurers do inspect vehicles "onsite". My insurance agent has arranged for an inspection at my house a couple of times for me (for car and 2 wheeler). My insurer is Tata-AIG.

You can always get your vehicle insured. Contact your insurer he will provide you with the information to proceed.

As far as i know, if old insurance has expired, we have to show the vehicle for renewal. if done earlier, they dont insist.

i might be wrong though.
