Santro Insurance

Hi All,
I just got my santro 5 days back and yesterday i left my car in the parking lot and somebody banged in my car so the part above the front right tyre is gone inside. I went to Hyundai motors they said that they will have to replace that whole part above the front tyre and will cost around 4500-5000Rs . The Hyundai supervisor said that you can claim the insurance but you will not get the NCB(No Claim Bonus) + some 20% more you have to pay in your next premium.
So guys please suggest what to do? To claim insurance or not so that I can claim NCB.

Thanks
Swapnil

Of the cost is around 5K, it is better you donot claim insurance, it will get compensated in your next premium (thru NCB plus lesser premium)...
In case cost rise to close to Rs 10K, I would suggest go for insurance...

You said the part needs to be replaced. Then it has to be painted too. All the replacement (I am assuming the front right fender) and paint will cost only 5K. Have you really checked what you would have to pay without claim and with claim. If the cost is around 4-5K as akroy pointed out, then obviously not taking insurance is cheaper.

But, knowing India, you may (God forbid!) get another dent tomorrow. Again you will think along the same lines, and pay again rather than claim insurance. I have never thought of NCB in 12 years of owning cars. OK, I may be different, but what is insurance for?.

If I claim an insurance i have to pay some 800-1000rs + in my next premium they will charge 20% overhead(I don't know for what thats what the Hyundai guy told me). The total cost to repair is 5000/-
Hyundai guy also told me that don't go for insurance..........If the cost is up to RS 5000.

Really makes sense, Vasudeva!

In case you have to lose just Rs.1000 on NCB, its better to lose that and claim insurance (which Im sure will be atleast 50% of Rs.5000)

Agree with the NCB Logic- You can scout for good garages to get the section repaired and painted as good as new, ofcourse at lower costs than the workshop.

Simple buddy go and claim insurance...5k is not less also they'll add labour charges etc as topping which will be 1-2k may be not sure...so get claim. What do we pay them for afterall. NCB will not amount to much and u've 1 yrs left so better cliam. Rest all ur decision.

Between the local and the hyundai work...the choice is yours..
if you think that a local guy would be able to do the work then go for it .warranty issue is nt at all concerned with denting & painting jobs.
however there might be some problems if after getting the work done from the local painter you want an insurance claim on the same ""right fender""..the company might reject the claim saying that there was an old claim pending on the same area/fender.but thats beside the point ..

get a few estimates from local painters for the whole work ..compare it with the insurance companies estimate +the ncb which you will loose in the long run (20% on second year ) based on that calculations you will be able get a good comparision of getting teh work done from local or not..

thanks

also i dont think that it is worth to get the job done from the hyundai workshops without insurance claim ....at least if you want the workto be good then go for insurance ...if you think that you dont want to spend 5000 rs on such an item go for the local work

Local work for a new car is not advisable as the paint quality is generally not the same (though there could be some exceptions with some local paint work being of good quality). For bumpers, local work can be an option. But for metal sheet, I would personally go to the company only. My car was also humped from behind by a scooter at full force. Although the bumper came out on its own, there was paint peeling. I got it done from a local painter, and although it is acceptable, it cannot simply compare with company work (in most cases). You have a 5 day old car and it would be best to bite the bullet and get it painted from company. Maybe when the car has some more mileage and more dents (hope not but inevitable) then you can perhaps go to the local paintshop.

btw, I also know that the Hyundai guys will charge higher if it's an Insurance claim as opposed to you paying from your pocket. So do check it out with them before deciding.

Swapnil,

If you are still undecided, here is my openion:

Close your eyes and go for insurance claim.

---------------------------------------------

Here the solid reasons for the same (can be seen from naked eyes!):
1. By the time your car would be due for insurance next year, it's IDV will be around Rs. 2.95 to 3 lakhs and NCB would be around Rs. 1500 maximum. You'll pay minimum of Rs. 5000 now or you have an option of future saving of Rs. 1500. Deside yourself.
2. When you as individual customer go to Hyundai, they'll come up with inflated charges say estiamte of Rs. 5000 but understand that insurance fellow will surely negotiate and will bring it down to half. This is transperent to individual customer. My felling is that a dealer actually have higher potential to make profits if he repairs without insurer getting into picture.
3. If you go to reputed dealers like Advaith, they mostly have Cashless insurance claim facility with major insurarers where you pay nothing but a small excess amout of Rs. 500 plus cost of certain items like plastic/electrical not covered in insurance though this is not true in your case. If you instead go to a private garage where you'll end up paying upfront. Now taking #2 in mind, Insurance company anyway negotiates, why bother taking pain.

Go pal and get the insurance claim done.. What's the point of taking comprehensive insurance otherwise.

I went to Hyundai motor plaza in cotton green. They also have cashless facility available with them. I have a very important question.

Will the warranty on the car will get lapse if we do this dent and paint work from outside?

I have not yet done any repair work. Will look after your suggestions and then go forward with it............

Thanks
Swapnil.....

If there is a repair job done inside the car yes it will get lapsed. That is if any part of the machinery or gadgetary is touched it will get lapsed.

If only paint is the issue you will lose out on the paint related warranty but believe me they will find out a way of making you lose other warranties as well..

In short do not go to anywhere other than the Hyundai showroom!
