Issue with Royal Sundaram about my NCB

Hi guys,

I needed some advice regarding my car insurance policy.

So let's start from the beginning.

I had taken a 1-year comprehensive policy with Royal Sundaram in April of 2022 for my 2011 Hyundai i20. Everything was well until it came to my renewal this month on the 16.

I had tried to renew my policy online since the beginning of the month but was not able to. So I tried calling their helpline and was shocked to find out that my Own damage was invalidated in November as they deemed my NCB invalid as well. The car was on the road with only third party damage til the 16th of April. They said that I had made a claim in my previous policy which was with Bharti AXA (now merged with ICICI Lombard), which is not true since I had a 35% NCB bonus with them and had not made a claim since 2017 (I even called the ICICI Lombard dedicated Bharti AXA team to confirm this and they said the same).

Royal Sundaram then asked me to send the proof to them which I did after speaking to the ICICI Lombard team.

Now they are saying they can't accept the proof as it doesn't have the letterhead of the company.

I am at my wits end with Royal Sundaram as they have been very lackadaisical about this issue until I started posting on their Twitter page, but they have yet to resolve this issue. All they say is that they will get back to me with an update.

I now can't drive the car as it is uninsured and my NCB is being affected in the process. I can't even transfer my old NCB as it has been invalidated since November.

Can anyone suggest what I can do to sort this out?

P.S.: I only got one SMS from Royal Sundaram saying that my NCB was invalid. There was no other communication such as a call, email or even formal post from their end.
I only saw the SMS a few months later but didn't consider it real as it was asking to pay the difference and I thought it was a scam as I didn't get any other formal notification.

In a way Royal Sundaram is justified - the NCB letter is an important document to them. Is the ICICIL document a uniquely numbered computer-generated one which clearly states that it is so, and hence doesn't need to be signed etc.? I would suggest you walk in to a ICICIL branch and meet the head. Ask him/her to countersign and apply the company seal on it.

That should do in my humble opinion. Get this done on priority.

The document provided by ICICI Lombard doesn't state anywhere that it is a computer-generated document. It just looks like a normal printout.

So I have gone ahead and sent the document today and should hopefully reach in a few days.

What I don't get is how they can mess up checking with my previous insurer about my no claims. On top of that, their customer service is abysmal. They say that they will call by the end of the day but they just vanish.

The only response I get is when I tag their social media account. Even when I connect with their customer service number (which is charged) the call just drops randomly.

Honestly, I have never dealt with such an unprofessional team. Once I am done with this ordeal, I will never again choose them.
