Do these online insurance providers have any information about the authenticity of the anti theft device claim for discount? Do they contact the manufacturers of ARAI to see if the insured car have the anti theft device certified?
2. Yes they are given on renewal also.
1. I will reply soon. (Please PM me if I forget to reply on this thread.)

Vora bhai,

You still haven't replied to my post, waiting for the same.

I have seen that various Insurers have different amounts for the Anti Theft discount ranging from 250/- to 400/- during renewals or new insurance purchase. Dont understand the logic behind that. In case of some insurers the ARAI certificate no is also asked during the online quote process.

I really doubt whether any car manufacturer would give the certificate details.

I'm glad I found this thread.

I am about to renew my corsa's insurance. The provider is Iffco-Tokio. While going through the online renewal process, I found there was a Rs. 206 odd discount for ARAI-approved anti-theft devices and Rs. 200 discount for being member of AAI.

From what I have understood from a reply to this thread by lambuhere1, the discount provided is compensated from the NCB right?
So, effectively you end up spending the same amount.

Could sound paranoid but, if at all someone claimed a discount for anti-theft devices, would the Insurance provider point out to it and create a mess if the car were to be stolen? (This comes from a strong feeling that "nothing is free" so probably this could just be a ploy by the provider to wash hands off from paying the insurance amount later).

Anyways, is a Gear-lock from Terminator counted as an anti-theft device?!

If you renew your premium online, it will ask you various details viz. Are you a member of any AA (Automobile Association), Is the vehicle fitted with an ARAI-approved anti-theft device etc.

So, select these options and you'll get a rebate during your next premium.

The discount in premium is Rs. 200/- flat irrespective of type/cost of anti-theft device.

If you renew your policy through an agent/yourself in person at the insurance provider office, you can mention it in the form.

However, ensure that this discount will not affect your NCB for the next renewal.

When I tried to claim this discount from TATA AIG on a auto cop system I had fitted after buying the car, they wanted to know if the RC book had a stamp from the ARAI certifying the device?! Has anyone claimed this discount from these guys? What was the process?

Re: Discount for Anti-theft device in Car Insurance

I have read somewhere that if we claim a discount in insurance owing to anti-theft device being fitted, the theft protection ceases, as in, if the car is stolen there is no cover. Other covers remain.

I would be glad to know authenticity of this article.

I feel this won't be true.

Well, your post scared me!

So, I called up Iffco Tokio - the Insurance provider for my Corsa. They said that Insurance for theft will be valid irrespective of whether the anti-theft device is endorsed on your policy or not.

So, no problem there!

Re: Discount for Anti-theft device in Car Insurance

Bump. I got a discount of Rs. 200 on the premium for WIAA membership. 2.5% of IDV of my car is more than Rs. 500, so I wonder why I did not get a discount of Rs. 500! Insurer: Oriental Insurance
