My experience with Hyundai's Mumbai dealers (and a comparison)

hi All,

Yesterday we booked an i20 Asta, petrol.

Attached is the comparison between the various dealers that i compiled.

I hope it helps.

We booked it with Hyundai Motor Plaza (HMP)- Lower Parel, although it turned out to be the most expensive option for reasons:

a. Its a company owned/operated showroom, so credibility to what the sales guy says is pretty high.

b. Color that my friend wanted, only HMP could promise a delivery within 7days cuz they have a stockyard in Taloja.

c. The Sales guy, Vaibhav, was pretty polite, softspoken and non-pushy. A lesson to all the other dealer sales guys
Although i must mention the guy from Asset, Kanjurmarg, who was very keen and did good follow up. If not for the delivery we would have given him the sale, plus he was giving discount too.

And yes, the cash discount is an unpublished and no dealer will go on record. However, this might help teambhpians looking for a better deal (5k can get me 50 McD Happy meals!!)

Mods, if this info is any kind of violation, please do remove this post.

P.s: If the toilets of the dealers were to be a factor, then the toilet at Linkway honda is super clean!

Hyundai Mumbai - Which service station is best?

Hi,

I just bought a Hyundai Tuscon Crdi. I would like to know which Modi Hyundai service station provides good VFM service. Any suggestions?

Choices are:
1. Chunabhatti workshop
2. Vasai
3. Thane workshop

Regards,
Seacat

Congrats on your new car the new Tucson is a looker! I have taken my car to the Modi Hyundai in Goregoan west for the past 3 times and have not had any complaints yet.

The Goregoan West branch is pretty big as they took over a ford service station which was beside them. Have always got the car back the same day.

Re: My experience with Hyundai's Mumbai dealers (and a comparison)

Hi Guys,
In continuation with my earlier post on which dealer service station is good, I just found out that R Square Hyundai has a service station at Chembur right close by to my office. before I take my Tucson for the first service there , do any of you have experiences to share about this service /workshop ? Good / Bad / Average.
Any good contacts there who we could depend upon.
Regards,
Seacat

I do not have any personal experience with R Square Hyundai but my close friend got his Creta serviced there. I have accompanied him on two occasions and found that the service is average. They tried to up sell few things to my friend which he politely declined and they were ok with that. He also got some insurance related work done here and the experience with that was pretty bad. I would recommend that you try other service centres if possible.

Re: My experience with Hyundai's Mumbai dealers (and a comparison)

Had the 4th service (30,000 kms / 36 months) for my Hyundai Elite i20 carried out at the Shreenath Hyundai, Govandi workshop. This being the first paid service, the SA tried desperately to upsell unnecessary services like Brake Service, Clutch Overhaul, Diesel Filter, Air Filter & Cabin Filter Replacements and WA/WB.

While replacing Air & Cabin Filter can still be passed off as preventive maintenance (as the Car Manual only states that these need to be replaced every 20k kms), the brake & clutch services are pure money-grabbing tactics. Also, the diesel filter needs only be replaced at 20k intervals, therefore this was another unnecessary task added. The SA provided me an INR 10,000 estimate with all of these services included, and refused to acknowledge that Hyundai's 4th service cost estimator provides a figure of INR 4,500.

He also blatantly lied that my diesel filter was not changed in the 20k service, and when I asked him to show me the previous bill, he tried to hide it by scrolling down very quickly (as the diesel filter was the 1st item on the previous bill).

After I gave him a piece of my mind, and noted that I would be paying only for the service required as per the manual, and not a rupee extra, he revised the cost estimate to INR 4,300! In fact my final bill was only INR 3,795 as he threw in a discount to pacify me.

However, after taking delivery of the car, I also noticed that the workshop had damaged my wipers (the rubber had separated from the wiper arm), and on enquiring about this, they obviously denied any wrong-doing and also noted that they do not have stock of the wipers. Absolutely ridiculous not having stock for their most popular model, in the middle of the monsoon season, while they are promoting their monsoon camp!!

Overall, am quite disappointed, as this is the service I would expect at a Skoda / VW workshop, and not Hyundai. Am awaiting the feedback call from Hyundai, to give them my feedback on this poor experience.

Re: My experience with Hyundai's Mumbai dealers (and a comparison)

Hi guys,

Any further experiences ? I'm looking to get my sister-in-law's 2.5 year old Elite i20 serviced and am looking for recommendations for a good Hyundai ASS center in Mumbai. If anyone has had a good experience please do let me know. Wondering which ASS center to go to. Also, do they allow you to stand and watch your car being serviced ? I really have no experience with Hyundai ASS and would really appreciate your feedback/advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I would recommend Modi Hyundai- Their workshop/ASS have the best technical knowledge as compared to the other Hyundai service centers.
Cheers !!

All the Hyundai cars in my family have been to the Modi Hyundai Goregaon workshop. They have always provided me with excellent service, relatively better on the pocket and they won't push for unnecessary repairs and touch ups.

They also offer free pick up and drop which is great because they're relatively far for me.

Steer clear of Kunal Hyundai in Vile Parle - the one time i had to go there was for body work on my side door when it was involved in a small accident. To my dismay, the car performed worse when it came out vs. when I gave it

Modi Chunnabatti, in my experience, believes more in replacement of an entire assembly, even if a small part breaks down and can be repaired. They're quotations are also quite high. I was quoted 7.5k for a rear bumper paint job. Goregaon on the other hand quoted 6k.

Another good Service centre I recently went to is Shreem Hyundai near Mazgaon dock. Great for people and office goers who live/work in South Bombay. I went for a gear oil change over there since I was unable to give it to Modi Goregaon. Booked an 8:30 am slot (yes, they do take in cars that early). Their Customer lounge has a glass pane which over looks the Service floor so I had eyes on my baby during the entire duration. Pretty quick turnaround time - I drove in at 8:29am and drove out at 9:15am.

Re: My experience with Hyundai's Mumbai dealers (and a comparison)

Hi guys,
A big thank you to sidpunjabi and seacat for your feedback and inputs. I finally managed to find the time to get the car serviced. Went to the Modi Hyundai service centre at Chunabhatti and i must say i was satisfied with their work. They took the car in fairly quickly and i could see the work being done from their viewing pane in the customer lounge. I was also allowed to go in and talk to the technician from time to time as i remembered stuff i wanted him to check/replace. The technician himself was pretty competent. The ABS warning light was showing on the dash and the technician hooked up the diagnostic tool (using bluetooth and wi-fi !!) and figured exactly which wheel sensor was not working. He then proceeded to check the wire and found that it had been chewed by a rat. Quickly made a fresh joint and set it right without trying the usual con game of " you'll have to change the whole harness saaarr ". I was very impressed by this as from my Honda experience i was expecting just that. I was very pleased to see this attitude of not trying to cheat the customer at every level. All other work was performed as required or asked for cheerfully without any grumbling which was also a pleasant surprise. Overall i was very pleased and will definitely go back to them.
Thanks again guys for your inputs.

Hi Revvhead,
Most welcome!! Just so that you guys know... some feedback on a recent incident. I had mentioned in an earlier post that I had the Hill decent, ABS, Auto hold and ESR alarms lit on my display cluster. Despite deleting the codes this was recurring so finally they located the fault to the Rear wheel speed sensor which was defective. The car is 2 yrs old and surprising this conked off so soon. Got it replaced, however what is disturbing is the fact that the workshops do not stock the parts and had to call for it from Korea !!! Took 3 weeks just to get a small part. When I complained in writing to Modi Hyundai, the service team were a bit miffed at me. I cannot fathom why they dont stock on important spare parts.
So if you guys have similar issues please do give them written feedback as only then they will improve in keeping an adequate inventory of parts.
Regards,
Seacat

My pleasure @revvhead.

The rat menace is a growing pain for all of us. It's good to hear that the technician was able to catch the actual problem early on.

To have to wait 3 weeks for a part as common as a speed sensor is pretty bizarre. Which Modi Hyundai workshop was it?

Did you try speaking to the parts department at other ASCs? Were they out of stock as well?

Hi, yes it was Bizarre for sure. Not the first time though. Earlier I had to replace the thermostat on the AC and I had to wait a week for the part !!
This was the Mumbai Chunnabhatti workshop - I had complained to Hyundai over feedback and also checked with the parts div, but when I saw that the ASS was miffed at me for the negative feedback I eased off a bit in the larger interest of my car being serviced properly. Sad but true !!
