This would not be reasonable because cost of doing business will become too high . Customers might "prefer" this level of service, they wont pay for it.

Say if some insurance company to was to cover this business risk of minor damages before delivery, what do you think would be the premium if only option was to write off 30 - 40% of car's value due to change in ownership ?

Jammu and Kashmir also follows the same process. The roads belong to the govt not us, they are providing a Service not a Product like a car with warranty. So is the case with education and other govt services. We can't compare the two.

If a car is just a piece of material, why are we the members of a forum dedicated to such pieces of material? Why do we discuss everyday about such pieces of material? How many people can own them? For many Indians, owning a car is a lifetime achievement.

Suppose you a buy a suit and find that it's torn, would you be okay if the seller offers you to stitch it? Maybe some might accept it but many might not. It's upto the customer to decide what he wants. He can definitely ask for repair, discounts, extended warranty, etc but he can also ask for a replacement.

Maybe reworks are done at the plant level but they have guidelines laid out for quality control and have proper procedures to take care of defects. If the rework is done outside the plant, there might be some mismatch due to difference in workmanship.

For so many years I was in a wrong assumption that these essential services towards medicine, hygiene and safety were most important that a luxury product like car. I think I should revisit or realign my assumptions.

If that's and accident and not caused by negligence, and if the repair work is not gonna affect any of the aesthetic, functional or durability performance, I don't mind getting it repaired.

Does everyone pay taxes? Non tax payers don't deserve good roads or good education? What kind of logic is this?

Are you trying to say that until the Govt provides excellent services, we should be okay with sub par services by others? In that case, we should do away with consumer courts right?

How does it matter if it's caused by accident or negligence? How could we know? Each case is different. If the customer is satisfied with the rework, there would be no issue. If not, he is free to approach the courts.

Given that customer is a lawyer here, case has been filed already.

Unlikely that court will do anything here. Probably, we will know the outcome in next 5 - 6 years.

And what ever we were discussing on Seltos thread was clearly an accident with no structural damage. I don't mean we should accept what ever is offered by dealer as compensation, but in this case when the dealer is offering to replace the entire door, at least to me it sounds practical. In additional we can ask for a little more (like extended warranty, few more discount, etc) not a brand new car as replacement.
+1 to that. IMO, dealers do not do this on purpose. It simply does not make logical sense. If it is accidental, and if damage is minor, then there is no point in asking for a new car.

Every one pays taxes. Even common citizens. Example: the small Rs.10 packet of biscuit has GST included.
