Re: Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com

My Verna was sold and the RC transferred in all of 17 days. I got the 10k "hold amount" as well immediately.

While I didn't have much luck in finding a premium used car from Spinny Max, my experience of selling my car to them has been positive. I got the car evaluated by Spinny, Cars24, and Hyundai. The evaluation process of Spinny was the most comprehensive while that of Hyundai was just basic. The offer from Hyundai was also the lowest. Cars24 was willing to match the Spinny offer but I didn't like their method of inflating the offer and then reducing service charges, GST, etc thereby making the actual amount much less. Spinny quoted a decent figure first itself and then increased a bit further on negotiation.

PS: My car was advertised for almost a lakh more than what they paid me and was sold within a week. Should I feel happy or sad?

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com

Well at last the RC transfer for my Alcazar has been completed. I had sold it last November and the transfer was pending.

But now I have to follow up for the balance amount. Raising concerns on their portal does get you a callback but they merely assure that the amount will be transferred, Nothing happens beyond that and I have to raise another ticket.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com

I am planning to sell my car. Evaluating all possibilities - acquaintances, local used car dealers, Cars24, Spinny, etc. Have been doing a lot of reading and research these days.
However, specific to your below post:

If I am not wrong, NOC has a validity of 6 months. If Spinny has not used the NOC to get the RC transferred to the new owner, I suppose they would require a fresh NOC from you. However, since Vaahan shows "NOC issued", I doubt you would be able to apply again for a fresh NOC.

Or maybe your car is still lying unsold with Spinny.

Even I would like to be enlightened on this subject from experienced BHPians who have sold through online aggregators.

NOC is valid for 6 months from issue. Once the buyer transfers to his name, the NOC stands cancelled. If the buyer does not transfer within 6 months, a fine has to be paid to "re-activate" the NOC. In my case, the buyer hasn't transferred to his name because his name has been misspelt in the NOC. He will have to get the NOC amended first. I still haven't sorted out this mess.

I suspect that Spinny bought the car from me and sold it to a car dealer downstream as my car was > 11 years old at the time of sale. So, they have no idea who the final buyer is.

Spinny has been of zero help in the past 18 months. They washed their hands off with an email saying they have sent legal notice to the car dealer to whom they sold the car.

I had assumed that NOC is not in any specific buyers name.

Let me talk about my 13.5 years old Delhi registerd car which is nearing its EOL in Delhi NCR.
Suppose I accept an offer from Spinny (or any other intermediary). They pay me the agreed amount and take my car after required documentation. They will also take an NOC from me at that time itself assuming the potential buyer might be from another state and the car has to be re-registered in his respective state. But at that stage they are unaware of the buyers name.

So how come there is a buyers name in the NOC you you have given.
I am trying to understand the entire process before proceeding with the actual sale.

The NOC has buyer's name (at least in Karnataka and Kerala). When Spinny buys from you, they would get your signature in transfer forms (Form 29/30) and not the NOC itself. Then, when they identify a buyer they will apply for NOC using his/her details. NOC is issued from the RTO and not from you as you mentioned. You just sign the transfer forms. A word of caution, please check if Spinny would sell it themselves or will pass it on to a 3rd party car dealer, as the car is > 10 years old.

Delhi might have a different process. Someone told me it is not in any specific buyers name.

Quote:

In Delhi, NOC process is online. Anyone can initiate the process on Parivaahan website but the verification OTP is sent to the current owner's registered mobile number. Then probably, there is an Aadhar verification too. That is what I meant by "They will also take an NOC from me".

They might never reveal the reality. This is where the conundrum lies. For close to EOL vehicles, most probable buyers would be from satellite towns. To find such a buyer is difficult without involving such intermediaries.

Anyway, I am still evaluating all possibilities. Such online aggregators would be my last choice because of the inherent risks like you mentioned.

I received a quote of 1.8L from Spinny for my 2012 Santro after inspection. Has anyone successfully negotiated with them to get a better price?

The very fact that Spinny evaluated your car is surprising, considering it's a Santro Xing, usually they never evaluate older cars. Maybe they do so because your car is a 2012 model. Anyway, you should not be asking for a higher price mate.
1.8 LAKHS for a Santro Xing is unbelievably phenomenal, I'd suggest you take a look at what they go for normally. I hope the quote is legitimate.

Give the car this instant and fill a full tank of fuel too lolz

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com

In the same boat as r0n1n

I got my 2013 WagonR VXi evaluated through Spinny and they are quoting 1.96 lacs (original quote was 1.86 lacs).
Also got it evaluated through Cars24 and their quote was laughable at best (even post negotiations).

Is 1.96 a good price? Given today is the last day to accept the price, should I go ahead with it or reject it hoping for a better price in the next few days?
PS: Would want to sell it this week as I'm taking delivery of my new car next week.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com

Hello Friends, I sold my Jan'2004- Santro to Spinny this year in Jan' 2024 (just about 2 weeks before it would have completed 15 years). I got the agreed amount transferred the same day. However, the issue is that the car ownership is still not transferred, I assume they have not found a buyer yet.

When I check on the Parivahan website- I see the insurance is renewed but RC status shows as expired. When I contact Spinny, they only say the car is safe with us & they are looking for a buyer etc.

Do you guys think there is anything I should be worried about, not sure if anyone else has see so much of delay? Any other suggestions?

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com

Hello Friends

I sold my 2020 MG Hector (Petrol DCT) to Spinny yesterday

Experience was super seamless.

Inspection :

- punctual
- thorough
- professional

Offer : I declined their initial offer and requested a bit higher amount

Docs : I had everything thats needed, so wasn't an issue at all

Doorstep Pick Up :

- punctual
- throughly verified the docs (esp NOC & F35)
- seller agreement signed digitally
- amount transferred within 30 mins. 15K held back, for resale or 180 days whichever is earlier. 1K deducted for home pick up. 1K deducted for an outstanding challan that I had no clue of.
- The pick up person completed all formalities and waited patiently till the amount was transferred.
- I had both keys with me and handed them over as soon as the amount was credited.

Overall experience was as smooth as it could be, totally hassle free.
I'd recommend Spinny for sure.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com

Spinny vs CARS24: Selling my 2010 Hyundai Accent

I recently sold my Hyundai Accent (Nov-2010 manufactured, Jan-2011 registered). I was the 2nd owner. I purchased it in 2016 for 3.0 lakh. It had externally fitted CNG kit. I decided to sell it on either Spinny or CARS24 because I wanted it to be quick and hassle-free even though it might fetch a little less price. I'm making this post to outline my experience with both Spinny and CARS24, and compare their PROs and CONs that might help other readers.

Make & Model: Hyundai Accent
Varient: Executive 1.5L Petrol + CNG (externally Fitted)
Manufacture: Nov-2010 (Registered Jan-2011)
Owners: I was 2nd Owner
Odo: 62k when bought in 2016, 94k when sold in 2024
Reason for Selling: Upgraded to Maruti Fronx 1.0L Turbo MT

The car was in very good condition. Apart from a few dents on the body panels, the engine was in perfect condition, and I never had to spend on any repairs apart from regular service.

Experience with Spinny: 4/10

The nice thing about these platforms is you can input the details of your car on their platform and get a ballpark range of the price you're going to get. So I went ahead and did that, and received a range of INR 1,47,000 - 1,85,000. Pretty good, considering the Orange Book Value of the car was ~1,25,000.

Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com-screenshotspinny1.png

Considering the fact that I bought this car for 3.0 lakh in 2016, it was long discontinued by the company, and it was near it's 15-year registration validity, this was a good price by any measure.

Happy with the price I was getting, the next obvious step was to book a free evaluation of the car. Their mechanic would inspect the car and then I would get the final offer from Spinny. I booked the slot for the next day.

Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com-spinny.jpg

The mechanic reached the premises on time. He was well-mannered and inspected the car professionally. Took about 40 minutes to inspect the car and a 5-minute test drive. Personally he told me he was happy to see such a well-maintained car and asked me why I was willing to sell such a car that can run another 1 lakh km with no fuss. Going by his words I was expecting a good offer from Spinny.

The next day I received the offer from Spinny. It was a joke:

Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com-screenshotspinny2.png

Obviously it was a shocker. It was way below their original price range, and was a ridiculous offer by any standard. I decided not to even reply to their offer. The next day I received a call from a Spinny executive and he tried to tell me why 36,000 was a fair offer for my car. I told him not to waste my time with this ridiculous offer and that I was already talking to another prospective buyers (I wasn't). He told me he could try and get a better offer near to 80,000 by next day.

The next day I received a revised offer of 65,000.

Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com-screenshotspinny3.png

The Spinny executive called again to see if I was willing to accept the revised offer. I told him not to even call me if his offer is not above 1 lakh. The executive was so rude, I didn't even want to talk to him. He kept interrupting me while I was trying to talk. It was like he wasn't willing to listen to me and just tried feeding me his irrational reasons why my car was a piece of garbage (on contrary to their mechanic who was very happy with the condition of the car). At one point I got so irritated, I just hung up on him.

Then I decided to try CARS24.

Experience with CARS24: 8/10

I went to CARS24 website and did the same thing - filled in the details of car and I received a ballpark range.

Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com-screenshotcars241.png

Now this was close to the real-world value of the car. I booked an appointment for inspection.

Experience: Selling my car to Spinny.com-cars24.jpg

Again, their mechanic was very professional and well-mannered. Reached on time and took about 20 minutes to inspect teh car and took a short test drive. He too was very happy with the condition of the car.

The next day I received the first offer from CARS24: INR 76,000

Name: screenshotcars242.png
Views: 232
Size: 115.8 KB

This was still below my expectation but at least it was better than Spinny and there was still room for negotiation.

(At this point it is important to point out the difference in the business models of Spinny & CARS24. Spinny buys the car themselves and then sell it off to other prospective buyers / dealers. CARS 24 on the other hand is an aggregator platform for dealers; the car inspection report is uploaded to portal and dealers from entire state can bid on it. The highest bidder takes the car and CARS24 take a small cut from both sides.)

Then I received a call from CARS24 executive to see if I was happy with the offer. I said I was only willing to accept a price within the price range they offered me on the website. He said he could run one more auction. I said I was happy to let the auction run as long as possible but wouldn't compromise on price, and a relative of mine was willing to buy the car straight from me (there was no one). Unlike Spinny, the CARS24 executive was very well-behaved. He even acknowledged the good condition of my car unlike Spinny.

The next day, I received a revised offer of 1,20,000 out of which CARS24 would take a cut of 5782 and I would get 1,14,218.

Name: screenshotcars243.png
Views: 194
Size: 111.7 KB

At this point I was happy with the price and was willing to accept the offer.

However a dealer saw my classified ad on another website and got in touch with me. He agreed to buy my car for 1,23,000 and so I finalized the deal with him.

So in the end, neither Spinny nor CARS24 got my car. But overall it was a much much better experience with CARS24 than Spinny. However, a couple days later I received a call from Spinny enquiring if I had changed my mind and if I was willing to accept their offer. I told them I sold my car to a dealer for 1,23,000 and he went silent for a few seconds. Then he congratulated me on the sale and I said thank you. That was the last call from Spinny.

It was posted on OLX. The dealer who saw the ad was initially offering around 1.10 lakh. Then I showed him the offer I had already received from CARS24 and told him I was looking for 1,25,000. We finally agreed on 1,23,000.
