Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

About Cars24 , 7 day return policy, does the car still stay in the name of the original owner even when the buyer is evaluating it ? Or do they now have a policy of transferring the car to their company name before sale ?

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Struck a deal with Cars24 yesterday to sell my 2009 Alto. I have 3 days' time to drop off the car. The experience has been positive so far.

The procedure has been quite smooth and transparent so far.

Being in a small town the biggest challenge for me was price discovery. I did not have any reference point to set my expectations. Additionally, I did not want to sell the car to anyone I know personally, given the car's condition.

Hence, booked an appointment with the nearest Cars24 dealer with the objective of getting a quote that will help me set my asking price.

While they proudly say you can sell the car in 1 hour, it wasn't the case as I had expected. The inspection took 45-60 mins, post which the inspection report is generated and car is put for auction on their internal portal.

As mentioned by the representative, the auction runs for 24 mins. Post which I got a quote. I checked around with some friends and haggled a bit to get it increased. The way their process works, the dealer gets contact details of the highest bidder. In case the customer is not satisfied with the quote, you have an option to make a counter offer to the bidder.

I was satisfied with the final quote so agreed to the deal. A token amount of INR 1000 was immediately deposited in my account. The RC was kept by Cars24 and I have to drop off the vehicle within 3 days.

Will post a detailed experience once I'm through the end-to-end process.

How much did you got for the car?

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Sold my 65k run 2012 Audi A4 Diesel for 5.75L on 25th. I didn't receive any token or delivery payment for 3 days due to some kind of NPCI server issue! I decided to hand over car to them on 28th without payment. Finally I received payment on 30th morning.
Except for one good offer 3 months back, all I got was low ball offers from local dealers. Even Audi dealership offered only 5L.
All I can say is that a very stupid and rash decision from NGT which should have been reversed by the Union Govt by any means possible.
Cars24 staff was cordial and friendly. Also staff was praising management for helping out employees during Covid 2nd wave.
If I don't face any issues with RC transfer then I wouldn't mind doing business with them again.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

I just sold my KA registered car while sitting at home in another state (KL) with no hassles, via Cars24.

- The car's RC had expired by April 2021, and it was in grace period
- The insurance is expiring tomorrow. I did not have to renew it.
- Overall condition of the car was bad (Several dents, 3 power windows not working, no cooling for the ac, totally worn out tires, worn brake pads, service was pending)

The entire process was very smooth and I could have completed everything while sitting at home itself. But then, I decided to drive the car for one last time, so I took it to their office which was 10 kilometers away. I received the payment in my bank account just an hour after the paperwork was completed.

If it was not for Cars24, I could not have sold an out-of-state registered car so easily, while sitting at home and without incurring any overheads.

I could have sold it locally to some workshop as scarp, but then RC transfer or RC cancellation would not happen. I definitely don't want to be the registered owner of a car which is used by someone else.

Their offer price was slightly less than what I would have gotten otherwise - but then, considering the time and money I would have lost if I had sold it off myself with proper ownership transfer, this is actually worth more. No headache at all - there is no need to visit an RTO and there is no risk of the buyer not cooperating during ownership transfer process.

So overall, Cars24 is the only safe and practical option to dispose off your old and out-of-state registered car, from the comfort of your own home!

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Do I smell a marketing ploy here?

The way cars24 has been aggressive in meeting or going beyond the prices quoted by local dealers, I feel they have a strategy in mind. It's like many others have done in the past. For example Walmart, Amazon, Jio etc. First show high value and draw all customers to their fold. Meanwhile small players will perish without business.

Then there will be no competition. They can consolidate the business as they wish. It's like 'losing few battles to win the war'. They have their IPO coming up aswell.

Am I overthinking. May be covid is to blame I guess 🙂

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

There is definitely a marketing ploy. For single owner, accident-free vehicles with less than 50K on the ODO, Cars24 quotes much higher than the individual buyers. I received a quote for my Hexa that was 1.2 lakh higher than the maximum quote I received from individual buyers. I still preferred the individual buyer though. But that's only because I don't want to run behind them for ownership transfer.

Yes, I handed it over at their Trivandrum office. They were ready to come to my place to pick it up and to finish off the paperwork, but then I decided to take it there. Without Cars24, it would have been a headache to sell this KA car off, sitting in Kerala, of course with ownership transfer included.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Though I have never sold any car to Cars24 yet, I have been there for their evaluation and auction. Sale did not go through only because of the unsatisfactory final price.

They are extremely professional and safe to sell . If the quote is the same from an individual buyer/Cars24/used car dealer, then I will go for Cars24 without any hesitation.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

I sold my car, 2007 model Getz prime, to Cars24 recently and it was a pleasant experience.

The quote I got from the Hyundai dealer when I booked the new car there was very less. Though there was a few months waiting period for new car, I took evaluation from Cars24 just for reference. I was surprised to see that Cars24 gave a good price, around 70% higher than from the dealer. I did not pursue then as I was waiting for the new car, which was a mistake.

When I contacted them after a month, they said that they will have to do a new evaluation and to my surprise, the price quoted was 25% lesser than the earlier quote. I waited for a few days and got another quote, which was again few thousand rupees less. I wanted to dispose the car soon and went with the quote, though I would have gained 35k if I had sold the car initially itself.

I dropped the car at their office and the full price, deducting their commission, was credited to my account within half an hour. I see in mParivaahan website that the ownership transfer is also complete.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

I am looking at a 2020 Creta SX petrol Manual vehicle, but CARS24 doesnt have second key available with them.

I am sceptical about buying a vehicle with alternate key not in my safe custody.
CARS24 have asked for 2 days to check with original seller or their store team to make available the key.

Later when i check, there were other cars too without alternate keys.

What is the opinion of other forum members? is it advised to take the vehicle and get the complete lock set changed at dealer end.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Detailing my experience with Cars24 for anyone interested. I had recently sold my 2010 I20 through Cars24 and have to say it was an pleasant experience overall with a small hiccup at the end. The flow was as follows.
Registered with Cars24 with the cars details; The website showed an estimate which I was sure their ground personnel would not honour or agree with. Got a call in about half and hour to ask for a suitable date/time for inspection.
Day 1: The guy who was supposed to inspect the car landed sharply at 8AM. Spent about 20 mins with the car, took lots of photos and drove the car for 10mts forward and in reverse. Took pics of the documents and told me someone will call in 3 hours. A lady called within that and gave me a quote which was about 60k less than what I saw the day before. I told them I wanted 30k more than what she was quoting. She got back in half an hour and said they would give me 20k more. Agreed after some deliberations with family members. She called me in the evening and asked me to confirm my acceptance and after I did that, they sent me Rs 1000 as token amount and to verify my bank account too probably. She told me someone would come the next day to take signatures for RC transfer and all.
Day 2: That someone did that turn-up but he called up and asked me to send pics of my DL, RC and Insurance which I promptly did. Evening, the lady who called me the day before called me to select a convenient time to send the vehicle to them. Told her that. She explained me what would happen the next day.
Day 3: A driver called about 10mins before the pick-up time and told me that I would get a SMS with OTP. Got it and shared with him. In milliseconds, I get a message saying that the remaining amount is in my account. Very professional. He took my original and duplicate keys, RC and Insurance papers. No signatures pertaining to RC transfer were taken.
Day 7: I get a mail saying that my car has been sold and a certificate saying that Cars24 will shield me from consequences arising from the buyers actions till the completion of RC transfer lands in my email.

Now here was the catch; A reseller bought the car and he somehow managed to get my number and called me stating that the my signatures on the RC transfer form weren't matching to those on the RTA servers. I told him I never signed on any; apparently someone on Cars24 side just scribbled my name. He bought me some new forms and I signed on those.
Another catch; he didn't want to do the RC transfer unless the car finds a new buyer as he was a reseller himself. He told me that Cars24 gives 90 days time for buyers to effect a RC transfer (I cannot confirm this though). It so happened that I had a Nexon ready for delivery with the records showing an existing car already on my name; So, the Nexon was booked on my mothers name.
Serendipitously, someone from Cars24 called me a this time and I detailed them the wonderful selling experience followed by the sour post-script episode. They offered their apologies but I knew there's little they can do. The RC transfer happened 20 days after the nexon delivery.
Regards,
Viswa

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Thought of sharing my experience, so far, with Cars24

Summary
I am sensing they are going down, may be due to increasing competition, or due to non-sustainability of the revenue model?

Now, the details

Day 1 I registered with Cars24 and booked an inspection at the nearest office. It was done promptly, and I got an SMS and Whatsapp message stating I have a confirmed booking for the next day.
What is odd, thought was that the appointment was from 10 AM to 6 PM. I decided to ignore the same.

Day 2 I reached their office at about 3 PM. The office was large 2 room one, but sparsely furnished and mostly empty. On one corner I found a person and expressed my intention of coming there. Then I was informed that I need to wait for 1.5 hours for inspection to begin and 3 hours overall. I did not budget that much time for the visit, so I called up the toll free number (The only contact available), and they apologies and ensured they'll compensate with a home inspection. I left for the day.

Day 3 Got the home appointment schedule message. About an hour before I got a call from the person who was scheduled to come, stating he is delayed. I was okay with the same. Couple of hours later, got another call that it is raining in his area and he was asking for my opinion on what to do. Obviously, I mentioned to him that I am in no hurry, and asked him to reschedule for next day.

Day 4 Since I did not get any further message, called up the only contact available (toll free number). They were not aware of any hope appointment, or any rescheduling. So, they took my request and scheduled again.
Got another call stating home appointment is not possible. I requested them to check their call records and form a singular opinion on what is possible vs what is not.
Got another call stating home inspection is scheduled.
Got another call stating home opinion is not possible.
Got another call stating home inspection is scheduled.
Got another call stating home opinion is not possible.I gave in and took another office inspection appointment.

Day 5 Reached the office with the car and all documents. Found the same person sitting there. He was on a call, and made me wait for 15 min. Post the call, he informed that inspection is not possible that day due to "inspector" not being available. His recommendation was better go to another branch as the people at backend has no clue what is going on on the ground, which I agreed with him wholeheartedly.
Called up toll free number, got tonnes of apologies in Hindi. Not sure the reason, there was no escalation path for the call centre person, while I wanted to talk to someone sensible. His recommendation was to continue visiting the office daily, till they get the inspection done
I returned home

Day 6 Got call from Cars24, asking whether I had inquired to sell my car

Conclusion As mentioned in the beginning, I see enough signs that this business is going down soon.
  • No enthusiasm from the employees.
  • No idea on what is going on, what is working, what is not.
May be they are running out of working capital?

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Sharing my Cars24 experience here.
My 2011 Skoda Fabia was getting a bit old so I planned on selling the vehicle. In 2019 I looked around for several buyers, checked the pros and cons and finalized that I will sell it to Cars24. The experience was good and nice got paid instantly handed over the car and done. I was told that the car would get transferred to the new buyers name within 180 days from sale. Waited for 180 days. Called up Cars24 they said that they do not have a buyer for the car and the car is stored in their Mumbai parking lot.
A few days later, I saw my sold fabia parked at a mall parking in my city with new interiors and tires. This is a sign that the car is sold and getting used by someone. Clicked pictures of the vehicle, visited Cars24 and showed them that the vehicle is getting driven around still on my name and how did they even manage to get an insurance? Got a standard reply of we have you covered dont worry.
Accepting what they said, I waited. A year later, still the vehicle isnt transferred to the new owner. Asked them again, is the vehicle sold can I get any details, same reply it is in Mumbai parking lot. I enquired about this the RTO where the vehicle is registered found that the vehicle has been blacklisted as the buyer submitted wrong documents or the signatures didnt match.
Recently, a random person reached out to me and asked about the car. I told them that it was sold long back. Whoever is the buyer from cars24 is advertising the car as it is owned by me. What do I do here. I dont want to get in any trouble.
Its December 2021 now, and the vehicle was sold in August 2019. I still see the vehicle driven around in my city and parked at malls. But, Cars 24 has no update and I get approached by random people looking to buy that vehicle.
Dealing with Cars24 is terrible and this is something shady.
