Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

What I have experienced in the used car business is, there are certain car models for which dealers are ready to give a higher price but at the same time there are few models in which they don't want to invest in until they get a very cheap deal on it.

My boss wanted to sell his decade old pre owned Skoda Laura L&K diesel automatic with 64000 KM's on the odometer and the first obvious choice was to connect with Cars24 (Because they market it and promote it that well&#128513. After scheduling up an appointment, we took the car for a valuation and after an hour and half we were shocked to get a quote of 1,40,000 🤐.We gave up the idea of selling it to Cars24 and got in touch with another dealer who gave a much better price 2,60,000.

In another incident which involved Cars24 is as follows.
My client wanted to sell her 2012 E90 BMW 320d and I had recommended her Cars24's name and when she got the car evaluated by them, she got a quote of 5,30,000 which was very low considering how well the car was maintained and had around 70000 KM's on the odometer. So definately the car was not sold to Cars24. Eventually she got it exchanged for a new car and got almost double of what Cars24 quoted.

So it all depends on the location where you are based in. If the dealers in your location who bid on your car give a lower quote then nothing much can be done by Cars24. My suggestion would be to get the car evaluated at Cars24 and then sell it directly to buyers or local dealers with whom you can negotiate better.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Experience one:

I tried to sell my VW polo GT TDI (2016 model) in January 2020 from Bangalore. The car was registered in Kerala and had 60,000km on odo, an audio system worth around 1 lac, an extended warranty until June 2021, no scratches. The person from cars24 came to my home and took a few pictures of the car ( I would say very ugly pictures to be shown to a prospective buyer ), recorded the noise from the engine, checked for scratches, etc. He did not drive the car. I got an offer from cars24 the next day and the offer was less than 50% of the on-road price of the car. Rejected the offer and sold the car to someone I know for 65% of the on-road price.

Experience two:

Last month, I tried to sell my pre-owned Hyundai Elantra (2017 model) from Calicut, Kerala. The car had 35,000km on odo, an audio system worth 1lac, leather seat covers worth 68,000, and an extended warranty until august 2022. Elantra did not have any scratches but one of the doors was repainted. The person from cars24 drove the car to a location 4-5km away from their shop. He had an instrument to measure the paint depth and he pointed out the parts that were repainted. This person also clicked pictures of the car ( again, very ugly pictures, see the attachment ). The whole inspection process took about 50 minutes. We drove back to the cars24 shop and I was asked to wait for about 30 minutes for getting a price quote. I requested them to call me once the quote is ready. The quote came within a couple of hours and it was 32% of the on-road price. I rejected the offer and they told me they will list their car on my platform for a higher price but I never got a query from the listing (It's still there, I do not know how to remove it). For comparison, the Jeep dealership offered around 45% for the Elantra. Sold the car on Olx for 52% of the on-road price

Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com-elan.jpg
Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com-elan2.jpg

The conclusion is that cars24 is helpful if you want to urgently encash your car by selling. I strongly believe that the people who are bidding for the cars are waiting for people who sell their car for an urgent requirement of money. The inspection process of cars24 (which is free of cost) is very good IMO, we can ask them to email the report and show that to the prospective buyers that you find on classifieds.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Had a very positive experience with Cars24. I recently shifted from Bangalore to Hyderabad and just drove in my mint condition Honda City. Now i purchased another car in Hyderabad and decided to sell the City.

Now the problem was I was in Hyderabad with a Bangalore registered city:

- One option was to transfer the car to Hyderabad and then try to sell the car here. Ruled out since it was too much of a hassle to transfer. Plus resale value is much lower in Hyderabad compared to Bangalore. On top the loss in road tax.

- Another option was to go to Bangalore and sell the car there. Again too much of hassle plus I did nor want to risk travelling during Covid times.

Enter Cars24.com. I enquired if they would take an out station registered car and they were OK. I asked for a home inspection. There guy came and inspected the car. He uploaded the documents and pictures and the car went for an online auction. I was expecting them to low ball. But to my surprise i got a decent quote. May be I would have got a little more if I had sold it to some individual buyer but I was okay for the convivence. I accepted the quote. They picked up the car the next day and transferred the money instantly online. Super convenient. All done from home.

Now I was worried about ownership transfer having read so many horror stories on line. But again Cars24 pleasantly surprised me. Ownership transfer happened in one month flat. And I confirmed it in the Vahan website.

Overall very happy with the experience. May be a mint condition Honda City was a easy sell. But if Cars24 can deliver this level of user experience consistently they have the potential to shake up the used car business in India.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Had a pretty positive experience selling my RJ registered Nano in Delhi. The car was a 2012 registered vehicle,25k odd kilometers and wasn't in the best of shape, but was mechanically sound.

Opted for home inspections and was charged ₹50, the executive promptly showed up at the time of inspection, did a pretty thorough job with his inspection(for those unaware, it's a pain to unscrew and screw back Nano's engine cover ), explained the procedure and left asking me to expect a call from the team. Surely, received a call and was asked to wait another 45 mins for the quote as the car will be going through an auction process.
Received a call from them about an hour later, and the quote was 35k which they later increased to 40k. To be honest wasn't expecting much from the car and being an out-of-state vehicle didn't want to get get into transfer specifics, so finalized the deal and was transferred a token amount of 1k.

The next day, a person came and took signatures on all relevant FORMs and handed them over to me, to be submitted to the individual at the time of car collection. Another person arrived a day or two later, to collect the vehicle, asked him to sign a document(for my own peace of mind) which he obliged and asked him to wait until I receive the remaining amount.
Handed over all car documents, forms, spare key etc., received the remaining payment within minutes and the guy left with the car.

Cars24 mailed over some documents, which included a Vehicle Delivery Acknowledgment Receipt, Payment Receipt, Seller Protection Policy and a Tax Invoice. Would like to add that they deducted a service charge of ₹1770 from my final quote, which they had made me aware of beforehand.

Was a bit apprehensive on vehicle transfer, but again was pleasantly surprised by Cars24. Received a notification on my phone 12 days later, that vehicle has been sold and the transfer procedure has started, confirmed this using VAHAN a few days later, and car was duly transferred to it's new owner.

Overall, I would say that I am a happy customer and Cars24 really did an awesome job. Kudos to the team!!

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Today I visited Cars24 to get my pristine Audi Q3 evaluated. The car has done 42,000 km and does not even have a single dent or a ding. It has all 4 brand new Pirelli Scorpions tires probably done only 3-4k km. They R-E-A-L-L-Y lowballed my car by quoting me a price of 11,23,000, heck even the IDV of this car is 19 Lakhs.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

I have been to two Cars24 outlets in NCR for a car evaluations in the last few years. The evaluations are done very thoroughly and the results are shared with you.

In addition, they generate an extremely detailed report post-evaluation, that can be purchased for a small fee - very useful if you would like to show it to prospects if selling on your own. That there is one thing that makes a trip to Cars24 not a wasted trip, which many might think it is, something that I am coming to in the next paragraph.

They work according to demand and supply, in tandem with car dealers. This means Marutis and Hyundais, especially WagonRs, Swifts, Dzires and i10 owners will receive a high quote as compared to vehicles that are not the market leaders and may not have a perceptible high demand.

If you go for a car evaluation for anything that shows a 3 or low 4-digit sales figure per month, be prepared for a nasty surprise. In fact, you might just lose it when they tell you how much you could expect for your swanky looking, shiny Maybach/ Porche Cayenne and leave the place in a huff. Not their fault really, rather it is market reality.

To be candid, you should have foreseen the used car value at the time that you purchased your vehicle!

As for myself, I have not sold any of my vehicles through Cars24(only gone for evaluations) but they have been very polite and professional. I didn't find it a waste of time for the reason stated above(the evaluation report). The actual evaluation process and verbal feedback(as per the report) is free anyway and will prepare you for what a prospective customer might say when they check your vehicle. They will show you the report on the computer screen also.

The evaluations are done as per appointment and the process takes 10-15 minutes during which time you have the option of being seated comfortably in an air-conditioned room, being served refreshments. Those are small things, but you don't have to haggle with anyone standing in the scorching sun when the local car dealer calls you to show your car to someone.

It is a good option for those in a hurry, owners of high-demand cars/SUVs, and those who do not have the patience of dealing with shady car dealers and blind leads contacting you through online ads.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

My experience has been positive with Cars24 albeit due to some assured cars funda they have

Easiest way to get right price for car is to get evaluated by all agents

Cars24 - Home inspection
Cardekho - Home inspection
Spinny - Home inspection
OLX my Car - Home inspection
Any 2 local vendors - within 5 kms

Yes it might be hassle for some but you might get 20-30k more so it is worth the efforts

Quotes (Car Honda City AT, 11 year old)

1.97 - OLX My Car _negotiated to 2.10, but lockdown delayed sale_
2.10 (after initial 1.85) - CarDekho (negotiated to 2.10 which was surprise as they did got up to that price after 10-15 days)
2.24 (net 2.18) - Cars24
Local Vendor - 1.55 to 1.75

Why CARS24 gave more price is because they have some assured car (which they buy) list wherein they give higher price to seller. It is not dealer quote but CARS24 quote is what they say.

Learnings:

Bargain Hard
Go to multiple vendors (if not possible then all online sites have home inspection)
Ask them to hold on to rates for a day to take a call if you really unsure
Some vendors allow you on exception (in current lockdown) to deliver car post 15-20 days
CARS 24 gross quote is different then net quote (approx 5k deducted as service, 1k for Instant payment), others give net rate.
Don't rely on website quote discount it is less by few 1000's minimum (Spinny gave me quote of 3.06 but never came for inspection but I doubt they would have ever matched that price)
Biggest advantage of organized player is once payment done you are free from all hassle you even get a letter from CARS24 as proof

Let me disabuse of the notion that the letter from CARS24 has any value at all !!

There are three cases that I believe that the highest court in India ie Supreme Court has delivered that establish this conclusively viz.

Supreme Court of India
Surendra Kumar Bhilawe vs The New India Assurance Company ... on 18 June, 2020
Author: Hon'Ble Ms. Banerjee
Bench: R. Banumathi, Hon'Ble Ms. Banerjee

https://indiankanoon.org/doc/106362639/

Supreme Court of India
Naveen Kumar vs Vijay Kumar And Ors on 6 February, 2018
Author: D Y Chandrachud
Bench: [ M Khanwilkar], [ Misra]

https://indiankanoon.org/doc/127802803/

and the most important one for us as motor owners...

Supreme Court of India
Prakash Chand Daga vs Saveta Sharma on 14 December, 2018
Author: U U Lalit

https://indiankanoon.org/doc/100391625/

As most of us do not have time to read through these judgements I am attaching an article regarding the above judgment below.

https://www.hindustantimes.com/india...3F9vxITdO.html

"The judgment, delivered last week by a bench led by justice UU Lalit, says transfer of ownership of a vehicle does not absolve the original owner of the liability to pay compensation for an accident, unless the change is effected in the RTA files."

My advice to you would be to follow up and make sure that the vehicle is transferred and your name is struck off as the owner in the RTO. All the best.

Not at all. If I came across as rude that was not the intention. But yes, I am highly irritated with Cars24.

I did not follow up when I sold my vehicle. Post being made aware of one of the cases above I just checked casually online the ownership, albeit 2 years later, and was surprised to learn that the final person (I did not know whom) the car was sold to had taken 3rd party insurance on my name and was continuing to use it. The funny thing was that it was registered in another city in my name. Go figure. If you have the chassis and engine number you can find out insurance details.

When I approached Cars24, they informed that that nothing can be done. The transfer letter I have is good enough for any issue. However from the above links, the Supreme Court rulings say otherwise.

I then informed Cars24 that I would register an FIR stating that my car was stolen if they did not get it transferred ASAP. That fact that the car was yet in my name coupled with insurance taken in my name would prove my ownership. The fact that it was sold 2 years back was a headache for them to prove. That did the trick and within 5 days the car was registered in someone else's name.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

I have a quick question - How accurate is the online estimate given by Cars24? I updated my car details on the Cars24 website and was shown a valuation of around 4 Lacs. The car in question is a 2013 Figo Petrol.

I personally feel that 4 Lacs for an eight-year-old car that was bought at 6 Lacs is quite a good deal. At the same time, there is a probability that they will reduce the quotation after doing a physical inspection. Any comments by people who have prior experience dealing with Cars24?

No worries my friend and thanks for the advice, I will make sure I will follow up on it and try to see a solution if I can disassociate myself from the car via another medium.

I heard one can submit FORM29 at RTO for the same. But most RTO are shut during lockdown so waiting for them to open and then send a copy as safety.

Don't trust online quote it is for luring you to sell. Ask for home inspection via multiple vendors as suggested in my previous post https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post5051538 (Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com) . They take nominal fees of 49-100 which should be fine as per me.

Makes sense. I will get the physical inspection done once the covid situation stabilizes in Bangalore. I am anyway waiting for Kushaq/Taigun. And as it appears VAG is in no hurry to launch them anyway.

Thanks, buddy.

A Bhpian's car was sold off and then it was used for terrorist activities while it was still in his name. This happened many year's back and he is still attending court hearings to get his name cleared. Selling cars in India is a complicated exercise and you have to take as much precaution as possible. So, no, you did not touch a wrong nerve. He was trying to help just we as a community help each other out.

Cars 24 and other companies will portray as though they provide great service but once you stop following up they will forget you. So please take this up immediately.
