Re: Very happy with my 13-year old Maruti WagonR | Should I buy a WagonR again?

Hello friends, so Ignis Alpha AMT it is

A big thanks to everyone who helped making this decision. Let me summarise quickly some points that led to the decision.
  1. We test drove the new Wagon-R yet again today and felt the overall quality to be a little below than even our 2010 K10 Wagon-R - in terms of plastics, weight of doors, etc. Even the road noise was very annoying in the new Wagon-R which I've felt many times while travelling in the Wagon R Tour cabs in Chennai. But space on offer is incredible. Ignis on the other hand feels decently well built, relatively lesser road noise, a very surprising 15 inch tyres (what happened to Maruti I do not know!) and has the best view for the driver, even better than the new Wagon-R.
  2. The 1.2 in Wagon-R has a coarse engine note when revved. The engine note of Ignis is music to the ears and pick up feels a bit more eager.
  3. Ignis is way more VFM than Wagon-R - the Ignis Alpha offers Rear defogger, Auto Climate Control, Seat Height Adjustment, LED Headlamps, Reverse camera, 15-inch wheels, Puddle lamps and a 6 speaker system over the Wagon-R for nearly 75k more. Ignis Zeta AMT is definitely a steal but we surely wanted Rear wash/wipe + Seat height adjustment.
  4. The two reasons to rule out Punch - lack of Hill Hold (most important reason) & the general service attitude. Since the car would be driven by my mother, who has started feeling a little insecure on-road now, my entire focus is to get her confidence up and I realised Hill Hold makes a huge difference to the relaxed smile on her face. Also, since they are ageing, I don't want them to suffer poor after sales. Maruti is peace of mind and my parents already have a good rapport, thanks to the ~14 year stint with Wagon-R.

Colours would either be Nexa Blue or the Arctic White. I will finish all negotiations and update the rest. The current offer without exchange is 9.02L (ex-showroom + Insurance + Road Tax + 5yr extended warranty + Registration + Fastag + NexaCard - 58k discounts). I will be posting this on the New Car Price check thread as that might be a better thread to have this conversation, isnt't it?

Thank you so much everyone and do let me know if you have any questions/ suggestions!

Congrats ! Pretty much what we saw in the Ignis over the Wagon-R. We had compared the top end Wagon-R with the Zeta (both AGS), and the Zeta was coming in at about 10k lesser than the Wagon-R. The one additional feature that the Wagon-R had was the ISS -but this is a pain in city traffic since the engine switches off after just 1 second of coming to stop. The Zeta has a Start-stop button, which will be helpful. But I should add that the engine Switch-off through ISS keeps the doors locked, but switching off the engine through the Start-stop button will unlock the doors :(

Reasons why we picked Zeta over Alpha:
1. Rear wash/wiper + de-fogger is available in the Zeta also.
2. We dont want the DRL + LED that the Alpha has. Also, the Alpha's head-lamps are way too expensive compared to the Zeta's - just in case there is a situation to replace.

Alpha does have the below extra features, but:
1. Rear view camera: we are adding the Maruti camera to the Zeta
2. Seat height adjustment: we are adding the seat height adjuster from the Alpha. Though, the stock height was still good enough for my wife.
3. Puddle lamp: possible to add. Yet to check on this
4. Meter accent lighting - cosmetic, so will pass it.

5. Also plan to swap the standard IRVM to an Auto IRVM from Maruti spares.

These additions will come at a much smaller expense than the difference between the two variants.

We wont get ACC though. But since the car will be used mostly for a 18km daily commute, will manage with the standard AC.

Discount you got is close to what we got here. Our Silky Silver Zeta is on the way, and should be home in about 10 days.

Thank you! About ISS - I felt exactly the same that my mother would be better off without that thing and I do not think she'd be the kind who turns off the car at every stop/ signal, hence, I think that should be okay

Oh yes, I was wrong about the Rear wash/ wipe.

I had no clue one can add seat height adjust at a later stage! That's interesting. But my mother was very attracted to the DRL + LED headlamps - she was excited like a child when seeing this. And being someone who's fussy about AC all the time, she complained so much less when the cars have an ACC lol. And I'm leaving back to Chennai as soon as the deal is done, making me unavailable for any additional mods or related aspects. So I didn't think twice about the variant choice. But your option of Zeta + accessorising looks like such a great proposition nevertheless.

Heartiest congratulations and look forward to seeing more about your car! And thanks for all the research you'd done making it so helpful for people like me who are in the same fix.
