Thanks for the suggestion. We already have a Tata at Home. So want a different brand. Hyundai Gi10 is what we have finalized now. Looking to test drive Kiger this week. Let us see if my Mom is comfortable.

Re: Which small car for the ladies at home?

Perhaps companies like Hyundai, Honda, and Suzuki, than some others like Tata and Mahindra, are more mindful of 'who is actually going to drive their cars'. Some other manufacturers do not really consider their vehicles, in terms of its ergonomics and drivability feel, to accomodate to the needs of a gender neutral participation in vehicle ownership and experience. For them it's all about masculinity whether it's heavy steering wheel even at low speed manouvering in the city or parking operations, visibility from the vehicle for shorter drivers (more frequently female drivers), unnecessarily heavy clutch (again drivers', especially female, fatigue level not evaluated) or even for that matter no option for seat height adjustability given in lower variants (for example in Tata Altroz and Tata Tiago which was appaling). Perhaps manufacturers should pose that question to themselves when they ponder about low sales of their vehicles. They need to appreciate the fact that there is more to a car than its steering or heavy feel and the image of a prospective buyer/driver which comes to their mind is not necessarily male. In fact it has become much more complex in urban India, especially, where the decison of buying a vehicle would rest equally upon the views of both the genders (just excluding our transgender and other gender non-conforming friends here for the sake of simplicity of my argument and maybe also due to my ignorance of LGBTQ specific vehicle concerns; I would be very grateful if someone would add to my knowledge there) and their own work related suitability and driving needs.
Isn't the rise and rise of scooty culture in India pointing towards an obvious fact? That other gender than male is joining the Indian motorists scene and demanding to be served according to their needs and concerns. With scooty's centrifugal clutch system bypassing manual gear and hand clutch requirements, with its ease of use and drivability accomodating many needs in one fine product you get the most diverse participation of motorists in a single vehicle that is the scooty/activas. Honda Activa is in second spot to the mighty Hero Splendor in FY20-21 sales (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fin.../2239918/lite/) which returns better fuel efficiency figures; my point being that agreed Splender is bought for its value for money and fuel economy returns but again Activa comes close due to its drivability, ease of use, much more accomodating for diverse set of drivers/riders even with a lesser fuel economy figure.
Coming back to cars, and I view every car with its positive and negative aspects. But in the end a well rounded product would check more boxes of prospective buyers than a vehicle with rough edges, however great perfoming it would be in other terms, it still will not sell as much. Granted it will still sell and appeal to those particular segments and enthusiastic buyers who are looking for that particular niche. It's time that the manufacturers take note of making their cars much more gender accomodating and listening to their non-male customers and enthusiasts. Yes enthusiasts come in all shape and forms, and in various levels of physical conditioning! Not to forget, and senior BHPians would know better than me, it was a woman who had the first vision for a windshield wiper, or car heating (which means defogger too). Sorry for digressing this much but your choice of Grand i10 Nios is a right one although then again women can do anything which men can and as a corollary to it might I add 'women can drive anything that a man can'. But in the end it is their choice to choose their vehicles too and they don't need to prove a point to men by accepting and driving vehicle chosen by men. Your thread was mind stimulating and caused a great stir in my mind to jump into the debate. Cheers!

In your list the i10 would be the easiest to drive. Hyundai has light, new-comer friendly controls, handling and general demeanour

Re: Which small car for the ladies at home?

AMT equipped Maruti`s are the most popular - as in most sold and used for this requirement followed by Hyundai automatics. You cannot go wrong with either of them, they need a yearly visit to ASC and that is it.

Re: Which small car for the ladies at home?

I suggest you go ahead with the i10 because
1. The clutch is light to use which is convenient since your mom is a new driver
2. Has a light steering
3. Has more features
4. Compared to the overall dimensions of a Swift i10 is smaller
5. i10 is cheaper than swift

Re: Which small car for the ladies at home?

Update

Since we are selling off our Quanto, we thought we might as well go for a Compact Sedan since the price difference between G-i10 and Aura was a measly 13K. Got my Mom to drive the Hyundai Aura. She was at ease in the car - I mean driving ergonomics, Gear Lever reach, all round visibility (off course with Seat adjusted to max). Finalized Aura SX Variant. Planning to book the Vehicle this week probably Saturday.

Meanwhile I test drove the Aspire Titanium as well. Well I am mightily impressed with 96 Horses and 119nm torque. Now my Mom will test drive it tomorrow. If Aspire fits the bill then I will be more confused. But then I will definitely get a Compact Sedan by mid September.

So the fight is now between Ford Aspire and Hyundai Aura. I am looking for a NA Petrol. Do not want a Turbo.

Also considering Tata Tigor but then Team-BHP reviews says it does the job well but not exciting. So might give it a pass. Will not consider Honda Amaze. Have read a lot of comments on Honda niggles, overprices cars and reducing Quality.

Quote:
I know Aura has received a lot of negative comments (about its looks) on this Forum itself but then it fits my requirements so I am only focusing on the Vehicle Drivability. Well it is cute looking too at least for me.
Will keep you all posted.

Re: Which small car for the ladies at home?

If you’re okay with the build quality of these vehicles, they go for these eyes closed:-
1. i10 Nios
2. Swift
If you can extend your budget by a little, go for the Jazz CVT eyes closed, it’ll surely last longer, is better, is safer, and has minimal electronics, and so it’ll suit your mom and wife both. Size might be a concern for them so please check that.
And if you can wait, I would suggest wait for the Hyundai Casper and Tata Punch.

Re: Which small car for the ladies at home?

The two wildcards in the Aura vs. Aspire final have to be Ford Freestyle & Honda Jazz.

Despite none of them being compact sedans, both of them are pretty capable of replacing the Quanto.

Your family should definitely take a TD of both of them.

Good Luck with the final decision.

Re: Which car for the Ladies at home?

Car Finalized

-

Hyundai Aura SX Petrol Manual

So after a lot of deliberations and multiple visits to multiple dealerships for multiple test drives, I have booked a Hyundai Aura and the delivery is planned for 16 September.

Cars considered and rejected

Quote:
Honda Amaze VX:
Pros - Excellent car, great drivability, Rich in Features. Cons - Build Quality found wanting, Flexing body panels, central console, roof mat, lighter doors.

Car is excellent but I wanted a better built car at 9.80L
Quote:
Ford Aspire:
Pros - Solid Build compared to Hyundai and Honda. Mature suspension, reasonably priced Titanium variant.
Cons - Ford's uncertain future in India. The only reason for rejecting this car.
Quote:
Tata Tigor:
Pros - Solid Build, excellent suspension, excellent drivability, Yummy Entertainment System well priced top variant.
Cons - 3 Cylinders Petrol Engine, Notchback style, looks narrow.
My requirements started from a Hatchback to a sub 4 meter sedan. I wanted a proper sedan (albeit sub 4 meter) with good build quality. So did not consider Jazz, WRV or any other compact SUV or Small crossovers. Of all the cars considered, I found Hyundai interiors to be vibrant. Aura was offering the best of both worlds. No discounts given since car is selling reasonably well.

This marks the end of my Car Search for the Ladies @ Home. Next comes my ownership reports.

Mods please close the thread. Thank you all for suggestions and recommendations.

Update: Car Delivered

Felt a hatchback was more apt for my Mother and Wife.
I had changed my booking from Aura to Grand i10 Nios Sportz in Red. Car was delivered on 20 Sept. Dealer had one piece (3 Aug manufactured) in stock so I offerred to pay full payment if it is alloted to me. Otherwise there is a waiting of 2 months.
