Team-BHP - Should I go for Palio stile 1.6?

I had initiated paperwork with SBI for financing the 1.6 thinking that all colours are available. I wanted to go for ozone blue or grey. It is frustrating that Fiat continues its ways!. No reply from Fiat about this to my e-mail. I will wait for couple of weeks for clarification, after that I will go for Swift ZXi even at higher price. Goodbye FIAT!

I suggest not to go for Fiat if you are picky about service issues. I do not know much about dealers for other manufacturers, but Fiat dealer and Fiat have definitely not been up to the mark in my experience with them over the last two years. It depends on which has more weight, your appreciation for Palio or dissatisfaction with Fiat/ dealers.

The palio is a great car. It looks even better than before due to the face lift.

I have not sen it but I am sure that it will be a great car for that price. Go for it without any doubt. The only cause of concern can be the service network of Fiat, but with the JV with Tata, I am sure it has improved too. Overall, you will not regret after going for the palio 1.6.

Whatever it is, there is surely a slight drop in the initial pick up with the new engines.

As far as I know, it always is the same DOHC engine pumping out 100 PS. I'll be keen to know if anyone here owns a GTX with 100 BHP output. I don't think there existed any 100 BHP version any time, but I can be wrong.

I remember reading about it in one of the ACI reviews.

The 1.6 litre engine puts out 100 PS, people generally seem to be using 100 BHP and PS interchangeably. It has always been 100 PS even if many people refer to as 100 BHP (actually about 98 or 99 BHP).

So, mystery solved. Fiat has very cleverly detuned their Euro3 1.6 engines to 98 BHP and the performance stats now read 100 PS !!. I think these engines will definitely be slightly slower in the 0-100 and quarter mile runs.I dont think there is any road test available on any website for the 2005-06 Palio 1.6 Sport/ Fiat Adventure 1.6 / Petra 1.6.

roms this is what I meant. Either it is people using 100 PS and 100 BHP the same way because they are close by. Following is a link that refers to 1.6 Petra engine to be 100 BHP, its actually 98 BHP as far as I can recall. We can not rely on these reviews. I have a spec sheet from Fiat that says its 100 PS@5500 RPM. The auto magazine I had got during my purchase process refers to Petra 1.6 engine as a 100 BHP engine.

Check the Fiat India site, it refers to 1.6 Adventure engine to be 100 PS as well.

Actually,RX and Sreenivas, I stand corrected,bigtime. All these websites state 100 BHP,but I just checked my S10 manual. It says 100 PS @ 5500 rpm.So all these years, most of us have been under the impression that engine was a 100 BHP one.Thanks to the various auto magazines and online test reports.But surprisingly none of these magazines ever stated 100 PS.

So, back to square one then.Both, the 1580 CC and 1596 CC engines pumped out 98 BHP and 100 PS.

it would be a first incident of people choosing a car brand based on COLOR.

FIAT is just too classy to miss out on the experience.. it does not floor you instantly( though adventure does) but it just grows on you everytime you use a fiat. you need to spend sometime with a FIAT car to experience a well synchronized orchestra.. i would buy a FIAT palio just beacuse of its power steering feel & AC & rest of the things are just free, like the brillinat hyraulic clutch, brakes are sooper & the gear shift.. haa.. not even a HONDA CIVIC can match it...

:deadhorse Esteem/swift engine is one of the best 1.3L you can find in India- only OHC 1.3L betters it.

Fiat Palio is a great car I say that from experiance, my dad bought the Palio 1.2 in 2002. Very solid build as any European Car (Opel Astra, Skoda Octavia etc. etc.) The ONLY reason I sold it after having driven only 9000 kms, was the PATHETIC after sales service of FIAT dealers. The company ruined their chances of great success, only coz their dealers had a "I care a damn" attitude.

I hope the tie up with TATA will revieve the fortunes of FIAT, please ensure the After Sales BEFORE you take the plunge !!!!
