Any option from Tata which can be considered?
Since he's already driving an i10, an i10 Nios will be the most logical upgrade. The car comes with 6 airbags now and meets most of the listed requirements. It is a far better option than WagonR for the additional price it commands. The only areas where WagonR trumps it is in running costs, resale and headroom. Headroom in the i10 isn't a deal breaker for users <6ft, running costs shouldn't matter for the kind of usage you've described. Yes, you'll likely to lose more money on selling an i10 than a WagonR.

i10 Nios vs i20 - which is better? Is it worth to consider i20 considering the price difference between i10 Nios and i20?

Since both the i10 Nios and i20 carries the same 1.2 NA engine and 5 speed MT, it's better to go with Nios, merely for the power-to-weight ratio it offers over the i20.

Incase if you're ready to increase the budget, simply close your eyes and go ahead with the i20 N-Line manual.

Both cars might have the same powertrain but there is a segment gap between them.

The 1.2 engine feels peppier in the smaller and lighter Nios, but the car itself is biased towards comfort and smoothness. In other words, driving around town is effortless even in a manual but this is not the type of car to push or have fun with. You'll only notice this on highways, as the softly sprung suspension takes a toll on stability at higher speeds. The i20 1.2 may not have the outright grunt but its dynamics are more mature. It feels settled and confidence-inspiring at speeds, more European than Korean if I may say so. As suggested in the post above mine, the N Line gives you best of both worlds but IMO would be an overkill for a senior citizen. Take a back to back drive of Nios and i20 1.2 and decide. I have a feeling that you'll find Nios better suited for your requirements.

Thanks! I agree with you.
Let me go for a back to back test drives and figure out.
