Mpfi or carb?

Mpfi was launched in May2000...

When did the seller purchased it from TSM? Is it a carb or MPFI version?

Seller probably would have tried with dealers & wanted to sell it to direct buyers to make right amount. Dealer would offer only in the range of 1.3L, as already two entries are made in the book. Anything in the range of 1.40 -1.50 seems to be okay.

It should be MPFI since its an oct 2000 model.. Is 1.5 ok for this if the car is in good condition? The second owner got it from T. S. M. chennai in july 2006. its an LX.

Sorry to barge in your thread 16v, but I have a similar query ..I am trying to decide the pricing on my 97 (Nov) Zen LX purchased in 2004 from truValue.

Since you would have looked around in the Chennai used car market, what do you think would be a fair price for this vehicle?

I am the 2nd owner and the vehicle has done 64000kms

Get the car throughly inspected & if you found it okay, negotiate the price with the owner. 1.4 to 1.5 seems to be reasonable.

Think, it need not be an MPFi just because it is Oct 2000. Especially since you say it is an LX.

My unerstanding is that LXi is MPFi while LX is Carb. My cousin bought an LX as late as 2002 and it was BS1. I may be wrong, as I havent really double checked the above facts.

not so...i have a nov 2000 zen lx and it is mpfi.lx and lxi is basically for cars without and ith power steering, power windows.
the price is pretty reasonable.if the car is in good condition go for it.
but make sure if the clutch, camshaft, front suspension are in good condition because all the above mentioned three are usually required to be changed at 50k kms(depending on usage).it shouldnt be that after purchasing the car all these problems crop up.replacing these parts can amount to 25k incl labour.

After the launch of Estilo, older Zens are having very poor resale values. You should pay only about 1.3-1.35 lakhs maximum for that Zen if it is a MPFI or reduce about 20,000 if it a carb.

To find whether that car is a carb, look for the presence of choke. Carbs are having choke.

Iam not able to understand how the newly launched estilo affects the resalue value of zen

It should be aprox 1.2-1.3 as of now ..........

The resale value has dropped because...

1. It carries the Zen tag and most people have associated it as a completely built new model of the old Zen.
2. Every car whose model's production has stopped will be having poor resale value in 2nd hand market(except in the case of OHC).

Adding to points you have already covered:

- Stopping of production means spare parts wont be easily available for long - unless
(a) The car is in production in other parts of the world
(b) A new car or other cars are being built on the existing architecture/platform which share common parts.

Im not scaring any Zen owners (I also own a Zen ;)), but here is my observation:
In a lot of cases, just one part wearing out/needing replacement in a phased car meant that the entire assembly had to be replaced with that of a similar car with a few modifications. Replacing an entire assembly in place of a just one part does increase maintainence costs.

Offtopic - My 2001 model zen VX (covered 76000 kms) has been quoted 1.3 -1.4 lakhs by maruti true value in Bangalore.. the resale value has gone down drastically.

Hey Vivekkr_99,
Just in case you r plannin to sell ur car to True Value, here is a tip:
From my experience, you will easily get Rs.20k more than what the True Value guys quote.
