There are no coupons on flipkart to my best knowledge.

buytheprice.com offers 5% off for icici credit/debit card making it 18325 but I don't know about their delivery efficiency.

I might buy another tablet in a few days once my samsung galaxy3 sells off.

Samsung Tab2 P3100 model at flipkart is a 3G + wifi version with ability for voice+video call.

This tablet ran very smoothly, and the ICS OS works flawlessly on 1GHz dual cpu.

Only thing I decided this tablet was everything included at one decent price, finish and feel is so cool, you would fall in love the moment you handle it.

Its a head ache if you buy a 10K tablet then roam around with a USB modem dangling from its usb port, or buying a cheap tablet and still use another gadget to make a call.

If you need decent tablet I am sure this won't disappoint you.

Microsoft may have a winner on their hands here. But let's await the price.

I will hold my horses.
Look at the zune. Excellent product. But it bombed.
Regarding this tablet, I am a bit worried about the "keyboard in cover" bit. Will it last a year of 2 of somewhat rough handling(which mobiles and tabs go through?)
Best case scenario for MS. Xbox. The product does not do very well, because of fixable things, MS fixes those things, and it becomes a best seller.

A general comment on the tablet space. We started with big computers, came to laptops, decided laptops were too big, created netbooks, those were too big, many went back to mobiles, but they were too small, so large mobiles came, even they were too small, hence came the tablets, and now a tablet with keyboard. Next step... netbook/ultrabook

Actually, computers with touch displays are getting bigger. For normal computers, they were trying to get smaller. I think both have met at this point now.

I ordered it on ebay India. Cost was 9499 and I had a 5% coupon so finally it cost me Rs. 9049. Postage was free but there was a caveat. It came from Hong Kong so I had to pay some customs duty (Rs. 595). So all in all it cost me about Rs. 9600. It is quite amazing the hardware this little fella packs for 9000 odd rupees. It even puts to shame my Rs. 30k (then) HTC Sensation!!

It was sent thru DHL. As soon as the order was processed (took about 3 days) it arrived in Bangalore in 1 day flat! Heres some pics.

The package as it was received

The packaging of the tablet itself (its quite good actually)

The contents (its quite basic really, just the charger, data cable and headphones). The instruction booklet is in chinese

The tab itself is quite slick. It was up and running in no time. The build quality is also pretty decent. It does not feel cheap at all.

Sorry for the ordinary quality pics. My HTC Sensation is not so good indoors really. This tablet is for my young one so that she stops playing with my HTC. So 2G/3G calling was not a priority at all. Though I am going to miss GPS on it as it could have made for a pretty good navigator. But you cant get everything for just 9k. I will be updating the software soon (maybe tomorrow if I can get some time).

All in all feels like 9k well spent. lets see how long it can go on.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Anyone here using Zinio on their tabs?
I just went through this month's Indian TG, and its really cool.
I mean, nothing can beat a proper mag when in the john, but, for everywhere else, its good actually.
Available forever, albeit in Zinio format only.
Nice layout, and half the price!
Full year subscription came to 600 bucks....

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Well its been almost 4 months since I got my playbook 64Gb and its been a delight . There have been plenty of apps since the launch of the new 2.0 Os and the capability of running android apps just adds to the fun .

Also the capability of using a BB phone as a remote control for the playbook is awesome .Its not something that you will use everyday but it does help to add votes to your side in the obvious playbook vs. ipad debate

The one grievance that i did have was the lack of availability of covers . Because lets be honest the playbook was never really a hit like the ipad or the galaxy tab and hence people didn't bother making covers for it . There were some available but they all had the same problem , they used to cover the touch sensitive sides(bezel) of the playbook hence making it completely redundant .

I searched a lot and finally about 1 month back i found a decent cover for the playbook on ebay. I got it for Rs 400 (free shipping) and for that money , its not really bad . Its fits perfectly and has even got a stand function .

Here are a couple of pics attached for the playbook users who are in need of a similar cover .

It has straps on all 4 sides so the playbook fits perfectly and also the touch sensitive sides are not covered .

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Its official

The Google Nexus 7 Tablet by ASUS.

https://play.google.com/store/device...le-wide-banner

Just $199 for 8gb and $249 for $16gb. Comes with 4.1, 1280x800 IPS Display, Tegra 3.

The bad part is no SD Slot. Everything else is spot on.

Amazon must be a worried lot. Who will buy kindle now. Bring the kindle 2 asap or its gonna be doomsday for them.

Lets hope this doesn't have wi-fi issues like Prime had.

Now bring on the 10" one asap and it will be even better.

You must mean Kindle Fire, because just Kindle is merely an e-ink reader.

Re: The Quintessential Tablet PC Thread (Android, Apple, BB et al)

Nexus looks like an excellent tablet. Want to get one ASAP.

Was looking at a small 7" tablet like the Samsung Tab 2 but this blows the Samsung away.

Apple will also have feel the pinch especially the lower Wifi versions.

Perhaps, perhaps not. With Samsung Tab 2, you also get voice call, 3G and micro SD card support for extending memory. These may be quite useful when on the move.
