Re: Mobile Number Portability: Will you switch operators?

My Vodafone coverage is fine in the house, where my wife's airtel sim can be patchy, but I have no vodafone signal at my favourite concert hall. Which, I now remember, was why I kept 2 sims. Too late: 1 sim plus memory card is the current choice.

Re: Mobile Number Portability: Will you switch operators?

I ported a phone number from Jio Prepaid to Vodafone Prepaid. I was told that first recharge has to be done at store. Also received an SMS on an alternate number asking to call 59059 with code for televerification. I tried calling 59059 but it says "Thank you for calling Vodafone Care" and then the call hangs up instead of going to IVR for code. What do I do now?

This worked now. I think maybe the number isn't active during night time. After 6:00 am, the televerification number worked.

Re: Mobile Number Portability: Will you switch operators?

I was a Vodafone user for 15 years. But, frequent call drops, network issues, there plans being overpriced, unnecessary charges and the hassle of going through customer care each time made me switch over. Was using Jio as my primary Sim since its beta testing days. As soon as I got Dual Volte mobile switched Vodafone to Jio too. Now both my Sims are Jio and I have no issues whatsoever.

This will work, if it goes unnoticed. Submit your documents to Jio, get your sim and keep sufficient balance/prepay next months bill, so as to avoid porting request rejection.
Vodafone will keep on calling, asking for a reason. Tell them you want an e-sim ( for your new iphone) and since Vodafone doesn't have it, you are porting out. You should be good to go.

I made a mistake of switching to BSNL from Jio. I find BSNL signal is not good in my home. Is the lock period of 3 months still exists to port the number again?

You might have got your answer by now, but yes, you still need to be with your current operator for at least 90 days for porting out.

And I, after living with BSNL for 13 years, ported out finally to Jio last week. Though I have a secondary connection from Airtel which is very good, I was still with BSNL for quite long which became worse from bad in last 2-3 years. The network signal became patchy, unreliable and the voice transmission became muddy. Internet became a thing unheard of.

Though I upgraded to a 4G sim by BSNL few months back to see if that makes any difference but no. It is to be noted that BSNL is selling 4G sims for Rs. 50/- when it even doesn't have any 4G network! Heck, they even claim to have a 3G network but 95% of the time, you phone will be in 2G. They announce that they will launch 4G at least 2 times every year- on 15th Aug and on 1st Jan and subscribers like us keep waiting. This was the story for this year too. But finally I lost the patience and shifted out after reading about further delays to launch 4G. After all there's a limit to how much you may want to support someone like BSNL. I could stretch my association with BSNL only because I have a wifi coverage at home and office and a secondary airtel sim to make calls else I would have ported much earlier. So, when every other operator is getting ready to launch their 5G services, BSNL still is not ready with its 4G and most of the times, their users are on Edge/2G networks.

Coming to the porting experience, I just walked to a Jio store near my office, completed the KYC formalities and walked out with a new sim in 15 minutes after paying for a basic plan. SIM card was free. I was informed in person and over SMS that it will take 3 days to complete the process and that is how it panned out. The difference between the voice clarity on call is like night and day. Jio (& airtel as well) also offers bunch of other value added services with its various plans where BSNL is lacking again. My Phone got to run cellular internet after a long time. At times, I would think that my handset is probably having some issue but switching the service provider makes it clear.

Unfortunately, if BSNL doesn't gets its act right soon, it may be wiped out from urban map completely in terms of subscriber base. Wake up BSNL...

Similar experience here with BSNL. Regarding the 4G part, I checked with a BSNL engineer I know. They wont be launching 4G, but instead are working to go directly to 5G. Till then we BSNL users got to suffer the poor connectivity.

I believe that BSNL getting onto the 5G bandwagon anytime soon is a pipedream. Considering the high-voltage 5G auction currently, the government will surely look at mopping-up crazy bids from private players. With the entry of Adani into this much-contested space, it's going to be a four-way battle now between Jio, Airtel, VI and Adani. Going by the way Jio has clearly dominated the telecom landscape and seemingly deep pockets, the government is likely to refrain from any lucrative 5G spectrum being given to BSNL. As has always been the issue with BSNL and earlier MTNL too, both these entities have been burned to the ground by their own master: the government; irrespective of which political party has been in power.

P.s. Even I have still retained the BSNL connection at our ancestral home in Goa. Also, quite surprisingly, the newly laid Fibre Internet connection that they have provided there has turned out to be really good.

Re: Mobile Number Portability: Will you switch operators?

I have ported out from Vi to Airtel to Jio to BSNL, over the last 6 years and found BSNL to be working everywhere I go, with their plans being the cheapest among all the operators.
Internet connectivity and calls seem to be very good too.

Being a state owned telecom operator, it will get an allocation. TRAI itself has proposed some bandwidth, while BSNL is asking for more than that. BSNL cannot be out of the 5G operators list.

(Note: I do use BSNL Fibre + one post-paid SIM. I see how bad the data connectivity is - at this time, like Saket77, the data speeds drop to 2G levels in many areas. Forget remote locations - I see this even at the edge of Bangalore South taluk, along the highway )

Re: Mobile Number Portability: Will you switch operators?

I had a bsnl sim and it was average not too slow. So thinking it will improve speed, I ported to Airtel. But as things turned out, Airtel also gave me the same speed. Tried another Jio sim which was the worse of the lot. So finally switched back to BSNL as it offered at least good coverage in and around my area.

Re: Mobile Number Portability: Will you switch operators?

AirTel & Vodafone would give you credit like a bank would to your credit card, but, Jio does not. Deposit = Credit and not a paisa more.

How to get past this ?

Re: Mobile Number Portability: Will you switch operators?

Honestly, I have been using an Airtel postpaid connection since 2011 and have never faced an issue with connectivity and data speeds in Mumbai city or elsewhere in the country. VI, erstwhile Vodafone has been the worst. Jio started off really well, but as expected has become a hit-and-miss these days.
