Somehow I had a feeling that this was going to come but not so soon.

There is this community of X10 owners ( atleast me ) who have ditched the brand Iphone and other contemperory devices like Galaxy S and HTC HD only to come to know that there wont be any Froyo update leave apart Gingerbread :Frustrati

Mind you the X10 is no cheap phone and its their flagship Android device till date, still Sony has the audacity to withdraw support and on top of that expect us to purchase the X10 arc. They are deservingly going to get lot of bashing for this act.

I'm pretty happy with the 2.1 update and not craving much for multitouch still would love to have latest sotware on my phone.
So much for retaining their customer fan base Sigh!!!

^^ hopefully there are custom roms for froyo and gingerbread which can be used!
X10 Arc or any sony device is not for the typical android user who likes to be on latest OS. I think Sony is still selling to people who just buy a phone and don't care about OS, its a different market.

Add to that the fact that the Xperia Arc at CES 2011 was running Android 2.4 (which is supposedly an incremental update for Ginegerbread 2.3) and Sony Ericssion said that they will update this phone to Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

I am planning to buy LG Optimus. It says upgradable to 2.3 in GSM Arena. Is this correct ?

Any drawback against samsung galaxy 3.

LG Optimus One P500 - Full phone specifications

I have been using Brut maps on my HTC desire (since Google Navigation does not work in India) and it was working brilliantly. From yesterday Brut Navigation has stopped working and is giving the very same message like Google Niavigation that "Navigation is not supported in India".. Has anyone faced similar issue? I understand the Google Maps 5.0 with 3D maps is avaialable in Android market. Planning to download this tomorrow and also to reinstall Brut maps.. Any thought before that is welcome

Try this:

SMACK THAT............: Sygic Mobile 10 with india map

I have been using it for a while now and it works like a charm except for a few minor glitches! It's way better than Brut maps.

Android 3.0 honeycomb is exclusively for tablets, not phones

The optimus one is better than the galaxy 3 in every aspect,if you can strech your budget a bit check out the dell XCD35,same specs but with a 480*800 screen

I dont think it is exclusively for tablets. It is only cutomized for tablets as well. Correct me if wrong.

Actually they have decided to create a diversion hereafter at Android 2.3 (GB)

2.X series will continue with Phones (screens well below 7")
3.X series will start on for the tablets ( greater than or equal to 7" screens)

IMO, this will be good, as the apps/games/OSes would be better in a place that they snugly fit in, rather than one_OS_fits_all (as in now).

care,

Ace.

P.S. To all,
If you intend to buy a sub 2.2 Android phone, I would suggest waiting till CES atleast!
Launch of herd of 2.3+ capable Android phones would definitely restrict the current Android phones to 2.3 OS as the roof.
That IMO is bound to impact the prices of the today's phones (that will soon be close to yesterday's phones.)

P.P.S.
That is if at all the 2.3+ Androids dictate any hardware requirements at all!
Till today internet was buzzing with HC 2.4 requirement being Higher resolution displays 1280×720. and Dual core proc's..
Today, I saw a tweet from Google guy, which says "No hardware requirement like the "dual core proc"..for Honeycomb.."

Pl. check on the Flash 10.1 support. Basically, I have seen complaints about no flash support on this phone. If you are browsing on the fone, flash is one of the basic needs these days.
