I second Llama. I am using it from day 1 and still haven't let me down. For me location based profile switching seems interesting than time based one.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I also have AT&T unlocked Atrix2 bought from US. My battery lasted only 18hrs to max 24hrs with 20mins talk, 4hrs wifi with 3G on (but no data enalbed). After I rooted and modified files to enable option to use only 2G, Im getting almost 2.5~3days battery backup. Same amount of usage. FYI, I am on IDEA -Karnataka with only 1~3 bars of 3G signal both at home and office. But full 5 bars all the time on 2G.

I can say the same for my Atrix 2. Two days is easy. However, I keep even 2G switched off at my workspot as the phone struggles with a signal even otherwise at the location where I am seated. Even with a full 5 bars signal strength, the signal keeps snapping atleast 10 times a day. I have seen this several times and it is not a phone specific issue. My relic Sony Ericsson used to behave the same too and the fluctuating of signals is probably more a battery drain than anything else as the phone is constantly trying to catch a weak signal.

I dropped the idea of 3G as I found the pricing too high for inconsistent 3G. I opted for 2G which to my surprise is working really well when out in the open. The other reason not to consider 3G was, I am never really far away from internet access. At work, we have internet kiosks and there is wi fi at home. It is only when I am travelling there is no high speed internet and I can live with that.

Mightly impressed with the Atrix 2. So far, its been working very well even with that old school Android stock operating system.

Not sure about the 3G reliability. But the basic 2G plan was about 100/- on airtel and I shifted to 3G at 250/- (1GB limit which I hardly touch). So overall not a big jump.

You echoed my thoughts. This is exactly what I feel too. Stocks apps (address/calendar) are simple and very intuitive. Though I have not used other Androids to compare.

Have anyone of you did 3G video calling using Atrix 2? There is a hack using Google Talk (there is some app which enables it in rooted phones). It isnt working in mine.

Also, anyone have enrolled in Atrix2 ICS rollout leak test?
I have and Im waiting to get it. But heard lot of negative feedback on ICS generally wrt battery, slow performance, etc. However a teammate got JellyBean on Nexus and says its much better than ICS.

I used with Skype on the data network and not voice. That works well (Works on Wifi too).

Not enrolled. I think we should get much better performance with ICS. Because as far as I know, its first Android OS which can play with individual CPU cores. So when not needed it can shut off one of them, From that point I think it should be better.

Any way cant comment, till we actually see it live!

I meant using 3G UMTS network and not Data.

Yes, ICS will be better but after using Jelly Bean on Nexus, ICS looks slow!
Currently no news from Motorola on Jelly Bean, but considering Google owns Motorola, we should get!

Acutally you can even now watch what your cores are doing using app: SystemTuner. This can show real-time CPU usage/freq/etc. Also you can record session and analyze how your phone behaved with different usages. For some features you need to be rooted.
I see even now with GB, Core1 remains off when not required.

System Tuner looks like a really advanced application.

Anyone using it to actually optimist the CUP usage? Any feedback?

Vodaphone charges for 3G are ridiculous. Rs. 110 for 300mb of data. 2G is Rs. 95 a month with 1gig data cap. 3G is very inconsistent inside my office and just about anywhere, thanks to the thickness of our walls. Though we have 3g, I don't believe we are ever reaching speeds that the technology is capable off. There is no more room on our choked networks. I can forget about 3g from where I am seated. Vodaphone Bangalore taps 3g from Airtel too which probably explains the high cost. Time to increase the call rates to 10 times what it is and bring down the rates for data. This will stop those pesky incoming calls.

Hello friends. Ive rooted my note and now im planning to go the custom ROM way. Xda has a plethora of options and has me in confusion what to opt for.

My requirements are
- better battery life. Recently my phone has been drinking exces battery after i installed Go launcher after rooting.

-S Note app or something similar which will help me take notes, memos and annotate pics. And also retain the stylus facilities.

-is it possible to get default ICS same to same as in Nexus phones? Or even jelly bean for the note.

Any recommendations from experts and Note users?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Any people looking to buy the Galaxy S3, theres a power seller on Ebay selling for 33,990. I think it is a terrific price and if you can get hold of a rebate coupon as well (lets say 5% or 10% - easily available) then the final price could come down to just 31-32k.

Heres the link Brand New Samsung Galaxy i9300 S3 Android, 4.8", S Amoled, Quad Core 1.4Ghz | eBay

I had a look at it. Its not box packed, have to take a considerable risk. But if you're lucky enough, then this is the deal for you

Yes, it will have quad core, 5.3 or maybe 5.5" screen (They call it "unbreakable" screen), 12 or 13mp camera.
Should have waited for the note 2

Any one using Xperia Ray updated to official ICS?
I am reading lot of negative reviews of the Sony update.
My BIL is in two minds, whether to update or not.
