Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Guys I am looking to get the HTC Explorer. I really like the looks of the phone especially the back with the metal thingy. Wanted to ask if it is good buy. I have never ever used an Android. I have been using a nokia 5230 for a while. I will be getting a HTC Titan 2 in a couple of months so this will not be my primary phone. What do you guys think?

P.S: They are asking for Rs.9300 for the explorer. I feel its a little on the higher side. Eh??

EDIT: I intend to keep the phone for a veryyyy long time and this will be my first HTC. Please Help.

Its priced at around 8.5grand. 9.3K is a ripoff.
This will be a second phone?or one that you'll use till the titan arrives?

This will be my primary phone till the Titan arrives. Once I get my hands on the Titan I can use it as a secondary phone.

Explorer does not have any metal thingy. All body including back is of poly carbonate. Around 9k is the normal retail price, though check out if it comes with hands free in the box. Earlier they used to give them separately.

Yes they cover screens for dead pixel. As long as there are no hardware damages. Even if you do have them try to hide them in some way to avail your warranty :P

Most companies have a "dead-pixel policy" which they rely on to decide whether the screen should be replaced or not. IMO they won't replace if its just one dead pixel. I believe you meant black spot on white background. If its white dot, it should be a stuck pixel. You can try some pixel repair apps on android market. Here is one example.

I was talking about the metal plate at the back on which HTC is written. It does look like metal to me.

Here is a pic for reference.

ohh. Mea culpa.
I thought you are referring the whole back panel. Even I am not sure if the rear plate is pure metal or a faux metal finish plastic. But the build quality is really good.
BTW, I think now the back panel does not have that dotted effect. It is now more like a soft touch plastic (Matte finish one). Please check with actual shop.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Everyone likes the idea of their phone body being carved out of a block of steel ---no, wait, Titanium! But, in terms of real-life materials of today, aren't plastics like polycarbonate plenty tough enough?

The S2 and Note that we are using have gone through enough abuse. I dont see why such plastics are plenty enough.

In fact using S2 without any additional cover and protection makes it the lightest device ever used.

I feel Iphone and metal based phones heavier to use and losing interest.
