Since yesterday the soft keys are not working.
Checked with the service center, the screen has to be replaced.

Replacement screen costs - Rs 6K.

Is it worth investing 6K on a 1 yr 3 months old phone or should i buy a new phone.

I am looking at phones in the range of Rs 25K. I dont want to buy S2 and more or less inclined to buy a HTC phone this time.

please suggest.
Try Sony Xperia ARC S or just Xperia S! They are really amazing!!

Try selling the damaged phone in the classifieds. someone might pick it up for spare parts.

What should be price in the local markets ?

I can refer flipkart, but it is only indicative.

If you have some contacts in US, then get the Google Nexus phone. It is available for about 20k only on the Google Play store (but only in US). Will be a much better choice than the Sensation! 720p screen, official Google OS - enough reasons to go for it over others!

Only problem might be support here in case something happens. I dont know if Samsung service centers will entertain it as it is not going to be launched in India.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Guys, does anyone know of a good app for sms suitable for dual-sim android? I was using the GoSms app, but unfortunately I don't think it can handle the dual-sim option very well. Mainly I am looking only for three simple features:

1. The sms should display the sim to which it has been sent (GoSms did not have this. The standard sms app has this feature)

2. The message should have an indicator to show whether it has been delivered or not (like that you find on whatsapp. GoSms has this feature, but the standard sms app does not have it)

3. I should be able to choose the sim before sending a reply (The standard sms app has this feature. GoSms did not have this. By default it was replying using the same Sim to which a message had been sent)

Wow those prices are much lower than flipkart. Lemme check with the local dealers and get back to you about the price of HTC sensation. So assuming that I get 6K for my i9003 i have to put in 16K sounds good to me but the pricing has to work.

I hear the price of SII will fall after the launch of S3 which in 2 weeks time. Not sure how valid info is this

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

My brother-in-law's Galaxy Note has just started to display a "Firmware Upgrade Available" notification.

I think ICS has started roll-out.

Anyone else?

Sadly, I have not received it yet.

Unrelated but a major problem for me:

I am absolutely unable to use Voice Talk on my Note with Idea Kerala's GPRS/3G (such as it is). Every time I try, Voice Talk displays the error "Unable to connect to server. Please check your connections and try again." The button on the dialog takes me to connection settings, but no matter what Idea APN I try (idea_gprs, idea_internet, idea_mobile), Voice Talk just keeps throwing the same error.

Voice Talk works perfectly under my home WiFi though.

Any explanations/solutions?

Sadly this is the same story on my side. Is your brother's note purchased this year or last year? And what about your note?
Plus is your brother in law using the note outside India? Also which network is he using? These few questions may help us to determine for which networks and device versions Samsung has started the ICS rollout.

Regarding voice talk, it only works on 3g and wifi.
If you have 3g you need to enable it by the following steps as shown in the pictures.

Select WCDMA mode only and you will notice the H or H+ come up beside the network indicator on the top. If you have activated 3g plans from idea select the access point for the 3g services. Voice will be working fine after that.

Do let us know if your issue is resolved.

Cheers!!

My brother in law bought his Note early this year (I think Jan), and he is on the Vodafone network as a postpaid user. He lives and works here in Trivandrum.

My own Note was just purchased on May 1st 2012 (early birthday gift form my wife), and I am an Idea(less) postpaid user.

As far as I can see, we are both on the same Kernel version 2.6.35.7 (or so) of Android 2.3.6 but his reads Dell 136 #2 and mine reads DELL162 #2 at the end of the Kernel version string.

I just noticed the update notification on his phone this evening.

As to my problem:
I do see the H/H+ icons from time to time, but only while I am in Trivandrum. I am told I have 3G, but that it is still in the process of being made generally available so coverage is patchy, and definitely not available outside the city (at least not where I work).

Here in Trivandrum on Idea, the 3G access point was supposed to be idea_gprs. Using this access point gives the H/H+ sign and calling but no data. Changing to idea_internet gives 3G/H/H+ notification with data access and calling.

Signal level is very poor, though.

Practically then, Voice Talk is not a very great help, at least here, now, in India, on Idea.
