I am quite happy with RC0, will upgrade only if RC1 is much improved.

BTW, how does one upgrade from RC0 to RC1? Just install the newest zip file for CM7 and google apps?

Its all incremental slow and steady improvements. Rock solid stable unlike the XXKP9 firmware for i9003 which gave my friend a kernel panic in half an hour (i've never had one on any defy nightly!).

Go ahead - no big deal boss.

Same stuff - drop it in a folder, then custom recovery, first do a wipe cache/dalvik - then install zip from sdcard - RC1v2, then gapps, then the Asia gps file. I get <10s locks.

@phamilytman - hope you remember our discussion about phones being tough to root. I think the htc family should take the garbage bin. Unrevoked has managed up to Incredible with a temporary root, and then inserting CMD into the phone. Incredible 2 is still not done. There is a beta of AlphaRev, or a hardware device which writes something on the SD card from China. With the former you have to manually copy and install the .img file of CMD. Some pain.

That is insanity - when you've seen how even the Samsung ones get done in one click literally. that is ike the initial ipad jailbreaks!!

gosh.

you better use it like an iphone only :D

Persons using SGS2, any idea on the menu function Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update -> Check for Update. Can we do a FOTA (Firmware Over the Air) update using this option other than using Kies?. When I select this, it is asking me for a Samsung A/c Id.

Any thoughts on this..!!

Any good Business Card Reader / Scanner for SGS2? Thanks

There are 2 options to get the file from, 1: samfirmware.com and the other from xda-developers.com

I choose the samfirmware.com since I wanted to try it on the stock rom plus the file is less than 280mb whereas on the xda-developers it's about 320mb. samfirmware has used better compression.

Create a log in ID on the samfirmware.com and download the zip file. They have also given the procedure in the Guide section.
Update can be done using ODIN.

Follow the instruction once the zip file download. It takes less than 5 mins to upload the file. After which do a full / hard reset or factory reset.

Note : please take the back up before you going ahead with the process. All 3rd party apps will be deleted along with the contacts, messages, music, images.

Android 2.3.4 for Galaxy S II. - www.SamFirmware.com

I've noticed in many online reviews and in the link provided above rdg. the 2.3.4 for SGS2, that the Samsung Galaxy S2 (SGS2) is having a chrome strip along its outer body, while the one I got, does not have any. Is this same for all those who got it in India.

Guys,

One quick question. I am getting a deal from a friend for his sparingly used Motorola Milestone. He is a phone fanatic and changes phones every few months and is willing to give this Milestone to me for approx 9K.

Is this phone worth buying?
What version Android does it support?

I have time until tomorrow to take my final decision, so please give in your valueable feedback.

Thanks.

phamilyman, you are the resident Defy expert here: My battery life is pretty bad right now :(. Im on the stock 2.2 rom. Im not even getting a full day's charge and thats with data and background data disabled. Any thoughts?

Actually, stay on RC0. Its a bit more stable than RC1v2. But what's more important is that you cannot go back to RC0 easily.

@CaliAtenza - Get to CM7/MIUI. But even then, battery isnt the strong point of any android. The best I got was 28 hours with MIUI. You may timerrific it a bit more

xda-developers - View Single Post - [DEV][ROM] CyanogenMod 7 (Android 2.3.4) try this on for size. Reduce random apps. like the 3G watchdog - watches 3G but hits battery bigtime!!

Harshal - Zero. Its an end of life model that has only limited mod potential (ask sprucegoose - he had one)

SGS2 vs EVO 3D

No more questions after watching this showdown, the SGS2 runs circles round the EVO 3D and its so called dual core processor lol:
