Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Looking for a phone for my wife to replace her ageing Redmi Note 3. She needs a good camera (both selfie cam and rear cam), 5.5 inch screen (mobile should not be too difficult to hold in the hand) and good battery life (preferably 4,000 mah+). Budget - under 20K if possible.

Don't want to spend too much since this phone will be undergoing a lot of rough use by my toddler and may not live very long. Her old Redmi note 3 got it's screen replaced once earlier and now it's having some issues with proximity sensor and battery.

Check out the Honor series. Their cameras are nice. The 6x had the same camera sensor in 15k, which otherwise shipped with 30-35k devices!

Otherwise, Motorola G5S+ has a nice camera.

If camera is top priority then consider the S7. Yes it's an old phone now but it was a flagship a couple of years ago. Have heard very good things about it's camera.

Available for Rs.21,750 on Flipkart (only today) after applying SBI credit card discount.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

For a moderate user keen on specific features (e.g. Camera) rather than wanting the latest hardware and software, it makes a lot of sense to buy prior years' flagships at current mid-range prices.

Got my S9 64GB yesterday!
Had pre-booked it last Saturday and was the first one to get delivery of this beauty in Coral Blue.
Pricing? Only one kidney! Haha!

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

10 months since I got the LG G6 and i ended up buying the Pixel 2 XL. 45K after Citibank cashback was too much to resist and I gave in.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the G6 but I have always wanted the Pixel 2 ever since it came out.

That said I will very much miss the wide angle lens of the G6, the headphone jack and the Sd card slot.

The only reason to change to Pixel was the software and I hope google does not disappoint me as the G6 was a really stellar hardware phone and the perfect size. I am already finding the Pixel 2 XL a tad large to hold vs the perfectly sized G6.

Congrats! And that camera is one of the best in the business. I was also looking to move to the pixel 2 xl come April but off late wifey is back to the "I miss iPhone" mode, after 3 months with the Note 8. So I may take the Note 8 and do my recontract with an iPhone X or 8 plus. Right now the V20 is serving notice period

Honor phones have good camera in their respective price points. honor 7x is sold via amazon for 13k and 16k (without offers) for 32GB and 64GB respectively. My wife uses Honor 6x which has good camera and battery life. Although the battery is 3300mah, it easily lasts for 1.5 days with moderate usage.

Some have suggested going for an older flagship. Although you will get better camera with older flagships, there are few other cons
1. it will be much more expensive -sometimes double the price- compared to mid-range phones from honor, xiaomi, motorola
2. flagships are not known for great battery life
3. in case of damage, will be much more expensive to repair

My OP 5 (8Gb Ram) has become very flaky now and apps keep crashing. I am on the latest Android it supports but Outlook constantly crashes for me and so do a variety of other apps. Sometimes I need to reboot for an app to start.
As an example Amazon Alexa app needs to be reinstalled every time I use it on my device but works perfectly on my wife's op3t.
I do not have any anti virus running. Have more than 80Gb free. Others with Op5, how are things for you folks?

Thanks for the response. Maybe it is geographic build issue, mine was purchased in the US on the day of launch of Op5!

I believe OnePlus phones get universal builds and not geographic specific ones, even the phones sold are universal.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
