Moto G3 or Mi4i? What is your pick guys? Forget about the absence of memory card slot. I can live with it. Highly confused :banghead:

I suggest you to go with Moto G3. Pure Android experience is anyday better than any other UI experience. Initially you may not see the lag, but over the period of time, as and when these apps gets updated, it will start occupying your device memory.

Moto G3 for software optimisation than Mi4i. Better servicability and resale too.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I would rather buy the Redmi 2 Prime than splurging twice the amount on a Moto G3.

It has the same processor and RAM as the Moto. The pure android experience doesn't warrant for twice the price in my opinion.

Isn't the Redmi Prime less reliable than Moto G3? Many users reporting various issues in less than a year usage.

Mi4i looks and feels like a flagship while the Moto g3 is bland midrange.
Pure android is overrated, miui is pretty slick.
Motorola isn't what it was before lenovo took over.

Where are these reports if I may ask. And even if there are some minor issues after an year, you can always take it to the service center. Or you can buy another phone after an year considering you would be spending less than half the amount you will spend on the G3. And it's not like the G3 is immune to any issues either.

It's currently listed at Rs.6499 on Amazon and on the Flipkart app. If you use an HDFC card on Amazon, you get it for Rs.5525! It's a steal considering the specs it comes with.

It has the same SD410 processor that the Moto G3 runs on, same 2 GB of RAM, same camera too in terms of megapixels I guess. Why would you splurge 12k on the Moto G3 for the same specs? Just for the pure android experience? Not really worth it in my opinion.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

okay, now that you are comparing redmi prime with moto g3, let me have these facts:
1) screen size - g3
2) OS - g3
3) battery - g3
4) camera - g3

for some, above factors may not be critical, but coming from tech background, i always prefer (and hence suggest) to go with stock UI than those custom UI.

I have Redmi 2 and i know Redmi Prime has 16GB ROM and 2GB RAM, compared to 8GB ROM and 1GB RAM in Redmi 2.
Having used both MIUI and STOCK UI, my preference is always STOCK UI.

I don't think MIUI is really reliable, I bricked my Redmi after updating it.
IMO, if you want great specs and a better camera then, Mi4i is a better bet otherwise, if you value reliability, overall performance and ease of use then, Moto G(3rd gen) is the phone to go for.

The the price point, Mi4i is a steal. If you don't need the pure Android experiance, go for it. Else there will always be the G3.

You cant brick a phone because of the ROM. I have run multiple roms in multiple phones for years. There are precautions to take, researches to be done before know what to do with what phone you have.

There is no way a ROM is bricking the phone if instructions in say XDA is simple followed.

Cyonogen mods are so refined that they are selling phones with stock CYonogen mods like the one plus. These are full size OS developed from Googles own android OS

Mi4I is a steal at that price.Slightly higher you can get the old Nexus 5 which to me was the best phone for a long time before Moto X surfaced (the 2015 one)

Did you try to unbrick the phone?

Many how to unbrick guides are available on MIUI and XDA forums. Do give it a try, if you haven't

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

for me, one of the major disadvantage with Mi4i is it's memory. It has got 16GB memory and no external card support. Out of 16GB, around 5GB will go for OS and other stuffs. With remaining 11GB, it is just too low for installing apps, storing media and so on.
Any idea why 32GB version is still not available?

I debated that in my mind and at the end went with the Mi4I for teh value it gives.

FHD screen, light weight, better chipset of the MI4i at 10K

vs

SD card slot, water resistance, pure android of the G3 at 13K.

I think it is a no brainer.

Good decision! We have 5 Xiaomis in our family and we love all of them. Very reliable and super VFM. Their software just works, and updates (bugfixes mostly) are sent out based on user feedback.

Motorola did not impress me with it's MotoG. Stockish android, but heavily locked-down (very anti-customization. locked bootloader, no OS downgrade possible, etc), bad camera software (waterpaints, anyone?), etc.

And now under Lenovo's wing, I'd rather not touch it with a barge pole.
