I also think that both Note 3 and Xperia Z1 are good. It basically comes down to our own choice as to what we want from a phone. I chose Z1 due to its compact size and the tough body. The Snapdragon 800 processor is a beast. My previous phone was Note 2. So it is definitely a super nice upgrade. Screen is nice too with punchy colours and good sharpness.
My wife's Samsung Galaxy S duos has a strange issue : Although its a dual sim phone, currently there's only one sim inside. After each 60 secs, there's an automatic message "refreshing sim data .. " and the phone temporarily shows no signal. This lasts for 2-3 seconds. If someone calls in this interim, the caller hears "the number you are trying to connect is currently switched off.."
Is this a known issue? Any help please:

You can go thru various forums like xda and/or flickr and make your own opinion.
For me, its been quite capable (in manual 8mp mode) I have taken some really good pics in very low light indoors that my other phone (HTC Radar) was quite rubbish at. So compared to my other phones its much much better (and that is enough for me). The Hardware is there (much bigger 1/2.3 inch sensor, bright f2.0 G quality lens). I wish Sony had kept MP at 13 only. Bigger pixels would have been better than more pixels. |
you can set the resolution to lower value and camera resamples the images, improving the details in the process. that's as good as having a lower MP quality.

this issue is known not just for Duos but for some more models.
some people reported this solution:
Settings → More settings → mobile networks → Network mode → (select) GSM only
Note: this is useful only when your wife is not using 3G data. because 3G data needs WCDMA mode enabled.
other solution if you need 3G data mode enabled, get your sim changed (keeping the number same).

I guess not really the same thing.
What the 20MP camera is doing (when set to 8MP) is pixel binning. Its trying to intelligently combine several pixels data. Doesnt mean it will always work.
(8MP) bigger pixel will always gather much more light (than 20MP one) and will have higher dynamic range. Would be useful in low light. 20MP camera will have more details (in good light) though.

That depends on the size of the sensor. Cannot be said ad hominem like that.
That aside, a question for Galaxy S3 users - which non-laggy debloated fast ROM is recommended? I am okay staying with OEM but something tells me life wouldnt be so simple :) (not to mention I find touchwiz too plain and their fonts hideous).

There is one approach that involves least amount of work (Other than buying Nexus 4 instead of S3 ;) )
1. Root [Quite straightforward for S3 :

2. Decrappify like a Windows laptop (E.g :

3. Once RAM Usage is reasonable, install any launher you like
This way, you dont have to worry about Camera Driver / Noice Cancellation with secondary mike etc with custom ROMs.
Or if you are planning a US visit in near future, just pick "Google Edition" of S4.

That was in context of a particular phone (Z1). That should hold true for same size sensor (at least for smaller camera sensors)

Evidently sold out almost as soon as announced. No surprises there :)
Did you order on the US play store, or on the India site?
Is there anyway I can record the route I take in sygic app? I know google has my track app but it requires internet to be enabled.

I vouch for Ultima ROM.
Try it and you wont go back to any other ROMs.
