See the platform used by GTO. You can even DIY one yourself.

Re: The Home Theater thread

I don't have a sub, but have couple of bookshelves hooked up to the TV through an amp and it does produce some rattling sounds. I am guessing it's the plastic tray which holds the keys and other stuff kept on the same TV unit. Didn't want to spend too much on any platforms as shown above. So went ahead and bough a yoga mat for 299/-. Will cut rectangular pieces and keep the speakers on it and see if it helps.

A 46" tv connected to an Onkyo ht-s3500. Excuse for the poor quality pics!
Woofer and amplifier are in the bottom compartment.
This pair makes life easy. Just select the sound options to "audio system" on the TV, and mirror your phone's screen for quick viewing.
Quality gets compromised though!
Surround speakers are on the walls behind.

Ps: Unable to attach images :(

Just a note: The subwoofer platform I got is available in 2 sizes. Please check both out on the Amazon product listing page.

Re: The Home Theater thread

Thanks GTO. I did see the two sizes. The space i have between wall and tv stand is more of a rectangular area than square. And i think both the options you had mentioned are square shaped.

Re: The Home Theater thread

Gurus

I need your advice. I have an Onkyo 7.1 HTIB which came with HTR-670 AVR and bookshelf speakers with max power handling of 130 W and Impedance 6 Ohm. My AVR is dead now and I am looking for an AVR replacement by retaining the existing speakers. Please note that it is being used in a 15 X 20 hall and not in a dedicated closed room. Can I use Denon AVR-X2200W to drive the existing speakers? Or what other options do I have in 50-60 K budget.

Thanks in advance.

Re: The Home Theater thread

Hi guys,

Pardon the noob questions, but I started reading the thread to get a clear idea (basically an affirmation of Bose wave series but now I am all over the place )
I am looking for either of the following as a first step home theater:

1. Either a standalone one piece system like the Bose Wave series or the Sonos
2. Or a 2.1 bookshelf + woofer system like the Yamaha
3. Or a soundbar + woofer system

Requirements:
1. Will be connecting it to my TV so occasional movies 20%
2. Music- either from Aux or bluetooth, mostly classical indian + western; meaning a subtle bass and clear vocals are required 80%
3. Not looking to crank up the volume a lot because of the surroundings

Limitations:
1. Can't do permanent wiring installation so a bluetooth system is preferable.

Budget:
INR 30000 or USD 500
I will be traveling to the US or a friend is coming down so I can get the one piece system like Bose or Sonos from there. (USD 400-500 as against INR 50k+)

With this qualification, what are my best options?

Re: The Home Theater thread

Hi guys,

Sorry for this stupid question.

Recently got hold of a HK Onyx Bluetooth speaker and what a sound. It just blew me away. That works seamless with all my mobiles and iPad. In fact, recent movie watching experience in the iPad with the onyx just gives the movie hall sound effect. But, the problem area is the TV.

I have a old LCD which doesn't have a Bluetooth option. Now is the question, how to pair the both?

First thought, hit Amazon and search for some bluetooth transmitters, results are not very inspiring. Either the reviews say there are delay or compatibility issues. None of the available products are from reputed brands, which I can just trust.
Further, I wont prefer to spend something in the setup, that can fetch me a new tv.
Any pointers, help can be appreciated.

Is it possible for you to connect the Mac to the TV via HDMI?

I connected my macbook to my samsung tv over hdmi, i get an error saying that my display/cables dont conform to hdcp content protection standards.

Amazon FAQs say that prime video app should be available for my smart tv, but it ain't showing up in the app store.

Yes most receivers are rated for 6 Ohms speakers. You can choose receivers from Denon or even Marantz if you wish to warm up the sound a bit compared to the Onkyo. X2200 is a very good receiver, which now has a successor x2300. You can also, look at x1300, priced currently on Amazon at 50k, if you do not need the additional features present in x2200.

In my opinion a good 2.1 system should give you the best quality. Most of the systems nowadays come with wireless Sub option. The satellites would be connected to a control unit(I use an Onkyo LS3100 ENVISION CINEMA 2.1-Channel Bluetooth Speaker System). Its is connected to my Airtel box via an Optical cable. What you should look for in the system are digital inputs to connect your set top box, bluray player, etc along with bluetooth, dlna or Airplay for portable devices.

Is bluetooth the only input option in the speakers? Could you post a link to its specs or the exact model number? TVs usually do not have a bluetooth feature, however, what they would have is either a digital out or an RCA analog out.

Thank you @mashmash.
I am afraid Bluetooth is the only available input. There is a USB 'C' type port, but as per manual, that is strictly for software update.

Attaching the link to the specification page here. http://in.harmankardon.com/tl_files/...0(English).pdf

The user manual is also available here, please refer page 4.
