Sony W880i keeps getting switched off!!!

Off late i'v noticed that my W880i keeps getting swtiched off on its own. This happens even when the battery is fully charged.

Funny thing is, it doesn't happen all the time. The switching off is very random and cannot be predicted. Sometimes it goes for days without switching off and on some days it goes off within a few mins of restarting.

Could it be a software issue? Will updating the firmware cure this?

Im downloading this update software (Is it the right one?) - http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/supp...0i?cc=in&lc=en

My current software version on the phone is CXC1250640 R6BC002 070607.

possibility of Software issue is 99%. update with the latest software you have downloaded.

there are few issues(like the switching off issue you mentioned) which happens after sometime of usage. it is difficult to predict the issue. report this issue through the Sony website(Sony Ericsson - Common - Contact) or Authorized service center.

i believe you will get a reply

This could be a loose battery or clogged battery connectors. Clean them up and check if this recurs.

This may be of help.
Help please! W880i

Software Issue for sure !! However, 1% chances are of hardware failure. If the said set is in-warranty get it checked at service center as soon as possible.

Will try it out. But i doubt that is the prob coz even when i tap the phone, it doesn't get switched off nor is there any play between the phone and the battery.

I doubt this is a software issue, if so the mobile should restart at random and not switch-off! (from previous customized 750i experience). Why not try the following in the order

1) a master reset after taking a backup.
2) Uninstall any recent software installs.
3) Do a complete flash.

If all fails, get it checked with the service people starting with the battery first.

Edit: If possible, try swapping a battery from another W880i and see if it helps.

Got the phone updated yesterday. It automatically did a master reset after the upgrade. Haven't faced any issues so far.

Glad to hear it buddy. You could post the new f/w version for others who might end up with the same trouble.
