Yes. With a pirated version on your laptop, Lenovo would not entertain this issue under their warranty. For that matter no company will do it.

You will have to clean up your system first, then re-install Vista. After this, you can go back to Lenovo and ask them for an option to downgrade to XP.

My long suffering Dell D600 laptop died yesterday after a prolonged illness. I have another laptop Sony Vaio VGN-S56GP in the ICU with a failed LCD backlight/inverter.

What do you guys suggest? Try getting the Vaio repaired or buy a new laptop? My budget is around 30K. Croma is next door to my apartment, so I am tempted to buy new.

Are the laptops still in warranty/extended warranty.

If yes get them repaired.
If No, Well you should get a new one ASAP.
The Latitudes are sheer workhorses.
Even if they are repaired(given that your lap is still repairable) they should work just fine

Warranty on both the laptops has expired long ago. The Dell D600 should get a honourable burial. It had just come back with its IDE controller replaced when it died all over again after I spend hours re-installing XP on it. I am just tired of repairing it.

Ok.

In that case go for any decent laptop.

You will get a lot of options in the 30k-35k.

1. Dell Vostro
2. Acer
3. HP nx series(if still available)

Also take a look at Compaq, they have good laptops in 30-35k range.

I intentionally left Compaq out as I have had very bad experience with compaqs.
Instead I have found Acer to be better in terms of reliability.
But again give first preference to Dell Vostro.
Dells are sturdy machines.

Does Dell offers International Warranty:-
Thinking of buying a Laptop from online store, which is selling the product with 3 yr onsite warranty.
Is that warranty valid in India.

They do have International Warranty check for the model that you are buying and Yes, you will be getting the support in india, only thing you need to do is fill the International Ownership form, for getting the support in India, when you get back to US you need to again fill the form for US.

You will be able to find the form in Dell Support Home Page under customer service.

Oops you seem to be in a real big mess my friend. Anyways don't lose hopes. There will be a way out.

You would have got a recovery disk to help you re-install in case of a system crash . Any luck with this ?

No recovery cd infact there is a think access option which does not require any cd but that gets deactivated when XP was loaded

Just had a word with IBM and they have given the details for the Bangalore division.
Need to register my complaint and then only i can get thru the Delhi office but only problem is to reload the vista which is a toll in itself....
