there is also 24x7 support by dell in india also check there website for more info....and hammer it and they will change it....I dont think so this is the most weird example I have heard it now...

If I had an Alienware in my hand, I would put up atleast 5-6 wallpaper sized images for others.

From my experience of using many company-provided laptops in the last 6-7 years, I would recommend you to go for HP/IBM brands over Dell. I found them to be more reliable. In fact my last Dell 610 had almost all of its parts replaced, except the case, in just about 2 years. My previous Dell models were also found wanting in terms of reliability with issues like occasional reboot, keyboard issues etc. I also find them a bit heavier than others.

At the same time HP/Compaq/IBM laptops has lasted for more than 3 years without any issue. Ofcourse, I am yet to buy one for myself as it was enough for me to have a PC at home.

Agreed! I have had a very good experience with them, and my entire office (25+ computers) uses IBM exclusively.

Except for me! Bought a Compaq laptop in 2003. Still working good and suits the purpose. Only problems in the past 4 years has been a crashed hard-disk and a failed video card (which was repaired by HP).

AMD Turion 64 or the Intel Core2 Duo? Am still confused! I will do a little bit of gaming and will be dealing with a lot of graphic softwares and watching movies. Need a healthy battery life too.

unless you will be going for extreme performance needs. either will do. Usually Intel these days also has price advantage along with performance but see what your system costs.

@devarshi: Intel has price advantage? From what I have seen lately AMD has price advantage as in they are cheaper than their Intel counterparts.

Dell XPS1210 is an awesome laptop. I have been using this for the last 6 months. The size is just perfect. And performance is blazing. If at all there is a problem, its the speakers, but I use headphones often, so its not a big deal. I got it from US for 37K from dell outlet for a refurb one. (core2duo t5600, 1GB, 60GB without the Nvidia...and wireless broadband..) US prices are just unbelievable !! They were supposed to give free vista upgrade but I wasnt eligible since it was from the outlet (well I was expecting too much )

I was talking to the dell representative here and was telling her that I would be getting the same laptop for around 40% cheaper. She said 'Sir, dell India laptop comes with case as standard and not found in other countries' ...she couldnt come up with anything else...!!

kvish, I need Dell India warranty, so I can't get it from USA. But the Indian price is not bad either. Try finding another 12 inch screen notebook with 7200rpm drive and Core 2 Duo. You will find it way way more expensive.

I agree DELL notebooks used to be bad back in the late 90s and early 2000s. I have bought a couple then before switching to IBM. But recently I have seen some better ones, so I am giving DELL a chance again.

been a dell user since 2004, currently using the inspiron 9400. no problems.
best thing about dell is great price and easy to customize to your tastes.
