A relative wants to buy a laptop from Australia. Any specific recommended model that should be considered? Usage pattern will be basic only with a budget of less than 1000 Australian Dollar.

PS - on a side note, is there any real advantage of buying from Australia instead of India? What about warranty?

Australia is quite expensive. Check the prices in Australia, India and Singapore for the same configuration, it may be cheaper in India.

You can use an external USB based wifi adapter.

Stick with i5 8th gen and go for SSD if possible. AMD is rising, especially their latest CPUs (4800U) have fantastic performance, but they are not in the market yet. The article is slightly misleading on the prices because it states the prices of the lowest configuration, but the description uses a higher end configuration.

I want to buy a laptop mostly for home. It shall be used for basic work but I want to use it sometimes to connect to AVR or 4k TV. Can an i3 with in built UHD graphics play 4k content like movies without hiccup?
I can go for i5 or AMD Ryzen as well. 8GB Ram, 1 TB/ 256 GB SSD with weight below 2kg is what I am looking for.
Budget around 40k but can be raised upto 50k. Preferred brands HP, Asus.

I had bought the Acer Nitro 5 few months back on a sale, i5 with 8gb ram, 1tb hhd and 256ssd and a 1050ti for 38,000. I doubt anyone can get this for so low now. Wait for some sale, if you are fine with purchasing a 8th gen laptop these specs are really good. HP has the predator series even they are equally good. Here's the link with similar features. I have played few games on 4K with this, I have a Mi TV 55'' which is connected to this laptop, I use a wireless mouse and keyboard to use it.

This should be more than sufficient for the use case. RAM can be upgraded easily to 8GB to make it future-proof.

The best way to get a list of laptops under 30K is to use Flipkart's site or app and their filters. Sort your laptops by price, filter by processor, etc., and shortlist your laptops. Research the ratings of the shortlisted laptops on Flipkart and Amazon(s) and make your decision. I found one Asus Vivobook after Shadow pointed out the 7th gen version above with a slightly different configuration, but with an 8th gen i3 and a HDD (which can later be upgraded to a SSD along with a memory upgrade) for 30K. If you chose to buy Dell, buy from a B & M shop rather than online. I bought a Inspiron 5370 around a year & half & it cost me around 6K cheaper at a Reliance Digital shop than what Dell was quoting online - I checked Croma and couple of other outlets also but Reliance Digital was cheapest. You need to bargain hard & also ask them to change any useless freebies you don't want into further discounts. You can buy the laptop from the shop & then if you want to buy an extended warranty, you can buy it directly from Dell online - that's what I did. The extended warranty was more expensive at Reliance.

Did it also include the free MS office home lic? If the options are the same then its time to checkout the offline.stores as well i guess.

Yes, my Inspiron came with the free MS Office also.

The link i shared did seem a bit dubious with pricing vs specs hence the reason for my query here.

My 7 year old Dell Inspirion 5537 15R's screen started flickering. Gave the same to Dell authorized service center on Saturday. They asked me to check with the Dell support if the LCD screen (13k+) or cable (4k+) is available with them. They will check if the screen needs replacement or the cable post that. Called support today and they will revert by end of day today. The mail says the part, if available, will be refurbished one with warranty of only 90 days. The service center also mentioned, if the spares are not available with Dell, they can find one in the market. Not sure of those parts also. I also have to pay 999 as service charges.

Is it worth going for this repair with older parts or should I dump this laptop and go for new one? Paid 50k+ in 2013 for the laptop and already the laptop is gone with no spare parts available. :Frustrati
