Hey guys, my younger sister plans to buy a Laptop and i don't know why she is insisting on a Dual Core processor. Now, i don't know much about Laptops but guys i am looking at the Compaq Presario V3029AU model since i found it incredibly VFM. Here are the specs

Processor AMD Turion(TM) 64 Mobile TL-50 1.60GHz

Display 14.1" WXGA Widescreen (1280x800)

Graphics Card NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 6150

Memory 512 DDR2 SDRAM (1x512MB)

Hard Drive 80 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive

Primary CD/DVD Drive Super Multi 8X DVDR/RW with Double Layer Support

Networking 802.11a/b/g WLAN & Bluetooth

Primary Battery 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

Price - 45k

Now, guys i want to know if the processor used in the above configuration is a Dual Core or no. Pardon me for my ignorance but am confused if its an X2 processor or no since X2 is not mentioned in the configuration. Kindly help!

Any suggestions or alternatives if available in India within my budget below 55-60k is most welcome.

ACer Aspire Desktop E500

hi, I am looking to buy a good desktop. Can any one shed light on the Acer E500 model with 19"TFT. Is it problem free, and most importantly is it worth the price of Rs.54000?

Thanks in advance for all your replies.

Dont go for the 6100 nvidia series.

go for a Turion X2/ core2duo cpu and a nvidia x1300/nvidia 7200 gpu or above.

the latest HD media drive that are coming up need atleast the above specs. Your specs dont meet the requirements.

For a desktop I wouldnt recommend a branded setup. go for a assembled pc.

Dell is offering really nice offers on laptops and most of them have dual core processors. Also they are offering free upgrades of RAM, HDD etc

as I said, dual-core is not the only requirement. Look at the specs again.

This is on top of the compatibility to Windows vista.

I myself am on the lookout for a new notebook pc. I am waiting for one with HD-DVD.

yes they do come as unbranded units too. check the listings in times of india. there are always some for sale. however unlike desktops i think branded is the way to go for laptops

why dont you consider the Sony Vaio AR. Its got Blu Ray Disc compatibility. However looking at how expensive the blank discs nd players are Id say its better to wait till the prices come down a bit

Thanks for the suggestion Khanak.

I have had a look at this and Toshiba Qosmio (HD-DVD)

but both are desktop replacement, meaning they are very heavy and tough to take around.

I talked to many people around and all asked me to buy now and dont care about HD-DVD's and Blu-ray's now as it will take atleast 6-8 months before they are axually selling in the market like a regular dvd.

I have decided on the Asus A8JS. Am only waiting for its N.American release which is supposed to be in October.

Core2Duo t7200
Nvidia 7700 (First strained silicon 80nm gpu)
14 wsxga
bluetooth

etc etc

Well I recently purchased a Dell Notebook (Inspiron 6400). Here is what it has

Centrino Dual Core 1.83, 667Mhz FSB
Dvr/rw +cdrw Combo Drive
80 Gb Hdd
1GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon X1400 256mb (Key to run Vista)
5 In One Card Reader
W-lan , Integrated Bluetooth
4 USB2 ports (plus host of others like firewire, S-Video etc)
15.4" Widescreen

And all this for just Rs.61500. Howz dat for a deal? Of course the actual markup was Rs.79000 You just need to know how to bargain with the Dell guys.

I think ittl take atleast a year before everryone starts using Blu Ray Discs. No point spending so much straight away.
