$399 @ Rs 66 per $ comes to Rs.26k change, without any warranty in India, unless you pay additional $$ to buy an International warranty.

The same laptop (Inspiron 3542) in India costs Rs. 27k onwards, with Dell India Warranty.

Hi Soumyajit, Thanks for your response. But, links that you mentioned are showing specs for Intel 4th Gen i3 processor with Linux OS.

But, for $399 (26K INR), Dell US is offering 5th Gen i3 with WIN 10 OS with International warranty!

I'm confused now :(

Ohh, I see. I was also looking for laptops with same config and had found 5th Gen i3 also. May be you can do a search on Indian e-commerce websites.
Although you would find all these laptops at max loaded with Win 8. There are very few laptops with Win 10, in India.

Check the Dell International Warranty clause very carefully. Check if it honours the warranty in India and what kind of support (Next Business Day or Carry-In) is provided.
If it does the above, then go for the US model.

As long as you get warranty valid in India, it is fine. Just check where all the International Warranty is available and what all is covered and for how long.

You wouldn't get a better deal than US for laptops. Dell honors their warranty in India, also. Dell laptop from US, should be a No-Brainer! :thumbs up

I normally have always purchased most of my stuff from the US, but now I am seeing some equal or better deals on Paytm. I got a Asus 11.6 4th Gen i3 for 21300 without OS and with Win 8, I saw it around 23K. This works out to about 330USD considering conversion charges on my India credit card and think it is a fair price to purchase in India itself. Again this depends on deal to deal, but one can snag a good deal here itself. Makes sense to get from US for the higher end laptops for sure.

I intend to buy 2 laptops for home (home office) use in the near future. The machines will be used by the guys associated with the office. The primary use is emails, creation of documents, browsing for research….. nothing very intensive. Just need a sturdy machine for slight rough use by the guys at office.

My budget is around 20000-25000. My confusion is on the processor. Do I go for the Celeron/Pentium Dual Core processor or do I spend that little extra bit for the 4th Gen i3 processor.

I am leaning towards Dell, having used the office provided laptops , though they are in a different league from what I plan to buy. But the Lenovo with Win8.1 is also tempting. Tempting enough to take the risk of going in for a brand I have not used till now. From what I read online about Lenovo G and B series, the B series seems to be a better option. Among these, the B40-80 machines seems to be a good option but then it is Pentium Dual Core v/s i3.

Check paytm, the above model with Win 8.1 is 26,800 today. I would suggest you go with the i3 for longevity of the system and to avoid some slowness related stress in your employees :)

I had one of the lirst ASUS lappies for three years. Good unit, not so great keyboard, and slow disc access. This was an i7 with 8GB RAM.

Go for Asus X555LA series i3 with intel HD graphics instead. You will get massive battery life and will run without getting overheated. Recently bought one for one of the relative. Good thing with Asus is that there are plenty of versions available which don't have Windows so we don't have to spend money for the OS and can install OS of our choice. For eg I installed Linux Mint in relative's Asus.

Build quality is decent, design is very simple and sober.

Avoid Lenovo at any cost, especially the ones which come with Windows since they come preloaded with Chinese spywares.

Go for this - Dell Inspiron 3542. Nothing can beat the build quality and longivity of a Dell.
My Inspiron 1520 is in its 8th year, and still works like a charm, except that the processor is outdated and struggles a bit with heavy jobs. The display is also going to die soon.
But I have had no complaints for Dell in the last 8 years of ownership.
My next would be definitely a Dell.

PS: I am no Dell employee or anything. Just another super satisfied customer :).

Thanks. I have been offered a 'new' ASUS VivoBook S200E for aabout 21000/-. The machine was a gift to an elderly gentleman who does not need it and wants to sell it at almost half the price. It is a US model.

Touch screen, Win8, i3 processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD. Sparingly used, almost new. Keen on picking this up. The minor hitch here is that it is an 11 inch screen model, I was looking for 15 inch screen, but not critical.

Having used Dell machines in office for last 4 years, I agree with you :). However, they are a league above my budget.

Would you guys suggest going in for a touch screen laptop?

@RAC; Definitely take a touchscreen model. Win 8.1 and 10 are much happier with it. Remember MS claims a useful life of a decade for Win10, possibly the last Windows.

This sounds great !! But I think a brand new 11 incher would cost about the same price if you buy a new one from online stores.

Touch screens are swanky. Not sure about how much is the real use :)
