re: THE Laptop Thread: Configs, deals and questions

Bought a HP 2000 Notebook from BestBuy while i was here in the US at a good price.

Costed 284.99 US $ + tax. Thats about Rs 16k which i thought was a good deal for a 15.6 inch screen,4GB RAM , 320GB hard drive, E-300 Processor with Windows 7.

DIY :: Make HP-mini-110-3605 Run Cooler, Solved HP mini Heat problems

my HP netbook (HP-mini-110-3605) was giving lot of problems due to hot weather, this laptop to my surprise didn't had any breathing holes on the bottom.
This lead to extreme temperature on CPU and HDD, and once it reached 75 deg. cel. it was mostly hanged, and became un-responsive.

I always have core temp installed on my computer/s so I was dead sure about the heat issue.

Check HDD and it was temperature killing it to death.

I even use a Laptop cooler but it was not helping, the laptop used to get so heated up that I had to keep it in front of A.C. to cool it up and make it useable again.

And finally I did this MOD to my laptop today and since then I've not faced any heat issues, however its been only a hour of usage but earlier laptop give up in 30-40 minutes itself.

The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions-vuchf.jpg
Inside of HP-mini-110-3605
Removing back panel is child play as it has a latch behind the battery and there are no screws.

Drilled Holes on base cover,
However After drilling them, I realized I could have designed
some funky stuff, but who care, I need to solve the heat problem.

The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions-aipwy.jpg
The drilled holes allows, Air to enter the CPU Fan from Bottom which
gets out from the side vent made by HP, atleast.
The holes on middle of cover is for HDD to dissipate some heat and so are those small holes on right bottom for RAM to get some Air for breathing.

This is a risky task so do not attempt if you are not sure about what problem can occur.
This makes my HP -mini run cooler but now onwards I have to be extra careful so kids don't keep it on surface where it can suck water inside.

May be this was a design blunder, or it was made for countries which never faces 47 degree celcius temperature but now its a "HOLE new Netbook" for me.

re: THE Laptop Thread: Configs, deals and questions

is there any website other than flipkart where i can get good laptop quotes?

also in India which company has good after sales service generally in Baroda and AMD in Gujarat?

I am planning on any model of Dell. Is that a good idea? How are Sony's in terms of reliability considering it will be hot and dusty where the laptop will be used?

Please advise. thanks

So what is the current operating temperature?

A very practical mod indeed.

Temprature has come down a lot, around 10 -15 °C
even during long operation hours, the temp no longer hits the threshold where it used to make it unusable.

My netbook was used to monitor some service for 12 hours a day and even after using Cooling Pad, it was not usable after 3-4 hours during summers.
It doesn't freezes anymore due to over-heating and I am happy about this mod.

Yes it is. But I'd buy from them only if the price is lower. Else Flipkart is the 1st preference.

My toshiba satellite's battery has given up sometime back and ive been thinking of upgrading the laptop for quite a while. Is it possible to have some kind of an exchange offer on laptops? If so where can we get that?
How much would a core 2 duo with 4gb ram amd 256gb hdd fetch?
@raj_5004 whats the configuration of your laptop? Is this the one on which you play fsx?

Regards

^^^Many shops have exch. offers. As for online shops, the only one I'v heard of is Letsbuy. They used to buy back old stuff. But now that its no more, I guess their buy back site must have gone too.
