Guys, I am a little brand specific.

So, I really dont want the Toshiba, Asus, MSI, etc.

However I would stay away from Dell these days. The current run of Dell's which come from China are pretty poor in quality. At work I see that on an average due to some reason or the other these Dells crash min once a year.
Yes, even I heard from a friend that these days DELL has some hardware issues.

Out of these four lappys, which one would you guys pick-
1) HP Pavilion dv6
2) Acer 5750
3) Acer 5742G
4) HP Pavilion g6

I would suggest avoid Acer and go for HP. IMO Dv6 is the best bet. Another option would be HP 630 which I recently bought, refer to post 3106.

Fellow members what do you think? Is it a good buy?
How good and reliable is Acer?
Thanks in advance
Finally purchased the above laptop for Rs. 30,000 on June 18th.
Excluded the local freebies and the freebies offered by the store including the anti-virus (actually McAfee was pre-loaded with 2 months license which was OK with me as I have multi-user license of Kaspersky).
Have been using for the last 6 weeks and it is quite good.
Haven't seen any equivalent configuration with competitive prices in India yet.

re: THE Laptop Thread: Configs, deals and questions

I am looking at getting a HP DM1 very soon.
I have a quick few questions if anyone can help?

1. 2GB standard ram installed, looking at increasing to either 4 or 6 or 8 GB. As the AMD processor is on the slightly weak side compared to mainstream processors, I am thinking increasing the ram will help?

2. What brand of ram to go for. Dealers in Pune are pushing Transcend first. What about Kingston or Corsair? What should be the price difference between brands and is it worth going for a brand other than Transcend? Any other brands to go for?

Main use will be heavy internet browsing, MS Office use, Video streaming via HDMI.

Also I will need an external DVD writer. Heard good things about the Samsung SE-S084B. Any others to consider?

@Raja
Go for DM1 if you are looking for a compact laptop with priority on light weight and mobility. That was my wife's priority and hence we bought a DM1. Increasing Ram will def help - 4Gb should be more than enough.

External DVD driver - depends on your budget - again, if mobility is your priority, go for a slim model

Nothing against HP, but had issues with the graphic chip (display) within the warranty, and again a year after. The cost of the chip was around 5k.

I personally prefer Toshiba.

Same problem with my son's HP. In case you want HP, do a thorough research on the net to identify any model specific problems others are facing. In fact do the research for any model.

We picked up a few 2520P HP's for our office. Looks pretty good and sturdy. The IT folks apparently did a lot of research before shortlisting this model.

For both gaming and Autocad, get the i7 and HD display models with at least 4GB and preferably 8GB RAM. Both applications are resource hungry.

Whats your budget? (45K Max?)

The Sony VAIO C Series VPCCB15FG is a good one too. Comes with a newer processor and a Full HD Screen, which I think would help you in gaming/designing. Price - 54K

Inspiron battery - second one dies

It seems Dell batteries are designed to service you for just an year. End of second year and my second battery is also dying. It just takes few minuets for it discharge from 100% to zero. Next state will be "plugged in but not charging"

Anyone has any info on cheaper third party alternatives? Attaching my battery's picture here. It is 48Wh which was a replacement under warranty when the first battery went out of service. The original one was 56 Wh.

The Laptop Thread: Configs, deals & questions-c360_20110802-131009.jpg

The prices for the original batteries seem to be the range of 3K.

The VPCEH18FG has a good configuration. You can go for it.

Dell has a similar combo in the Inspiron 14R and 15R which come with Radeon HD 6470M - 1GB and NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M - 1GB and are priced at 42.7 and 43.7K respectively.

Here a comparison link (Shop for Home and Home Office | Dell India)
