Has to be available in singapore.
I liked the Sony Vaio.

I'd like to suggest the Vaio S Series laptops. VGN S48GP. Very sexy, very light (<2 kg), noiseless, reliable and powerful. Displays (which are BRILLIANT) are 13" widescreens, though.

Somebody suggested Fujitsu - they're excellent laptops, probably the best I've used so far. Quality levels are far ahead of anyone else.

They're also expensive, at nearly Rs.90,000 in DXB. Fujitsus are expensive too.

Chalo boys, please choose for me.

Choosing laptop like choosing camel/wife. Man gotta do what he gotta do.

At least its that way for me - I spend most of my life with my laptop...you have the suggestions, so look around and make the right choice. Suggest you look at the Vaio S series as they are way better than any of the other Vaios.

Hmmm... your right there steeroid. My feeling is strong on sony or the acer ferrari simply because the ferrari laptop will be so cool to have. But i worry about the performace. Any idea if the AMD "Turion" is vs the Intel "Centrino"
What say you airfoil? Acer ferrari or Sony Vaio??

It is not really apple to apple comparison. Turion is 64 bit, Centrino M processors are 32 bits. With the more money you wanna spend you get better options for good performance, but I guess we have to draw a line somewhere. If there is not much of a price difference then Turion should be a good option, though never experienced that.

Selective

Between the Sony & the Acer, my vote goes to the Acer, and this is largely because of the Ferrari branding.

Other reasons:
512 MB more RAM at a lower price
The Turion is arguably the better CPU, plus you get the added benefit of 64 bit computing, with a 64 bit OS preloaded
Better screen resolution, WSXGA vs. WXGA
International warranty as opposed to the Sony's local warranty
Memory card reader that supports more than just Sony's proprietary media
Bluetooth built in (Sony makes no mention of it)
Snob value!

And last but not the least, without meaning to offend you, the Ferrari 'fits' you best, given your larger than life persona!

Airfoil ya, dont embarass. lol:
OK so now i am full tilting in favour of the ferrari laptop. As per the advice of JK and steer, I've asked for a quote on the S48 and the Lenovo T43. That should be in by tomorrow. As far as the acer ferrari, the quote i've posted is the best one i've got so far.

Is this Ferrari laptop the carbon fibre one?

Ya :D it's the carbon fibre laptop.

yah it looks cool but what about s/w support? just curious .

and Sam, AMD rules. Donno when Intel is gonna bring an AMD 64 beater.

Go for 64 bit turion, you get amazing prices from Acer/Toshiba. Avoid ferrari as its overpriced and just has tje cool factor. As far as performance is concerned, AMD rules in per $ perfomance. My desktop is also 64bit, and on 64bit applications I see significant performance improvement. due to larger number of registers even 32 bit apps run faster.

A site worth visiting is
http://www.notebookreview.com/

go to notebook search, select amd 64 and 512MB ram.
The first result is the 2000$ Sony
http://www.notebookreview.com/price/...ay=priceDetail
Second is the ACER
http://www.notebookreview.com/price/...ay=priceDetail

the ACER has a 100GB IDE.

Sam,

I'm with the HP.
They are well designed and rugged machines, and that one has a great config.

Only thing i would seriously consider is going in for a 7200RPM HDD (seagate momentus!!...but that will put you back $250...but then you could always sell the original one at lamington road :P )
