1. I will try to open it up and clean everything but I doubt it would fix the issue.
2. Can I just get the keyboard replaced? How much would it cost?
1. I doubt that will do the trick though. It's not due to the dust generally but the wear and tear of the key.

2. Depends from model to model, ranges from 2.5-4k .

Hi Guys,

Looking for a netbook ONLY for travel purposes. Will use it for surfing, mails and some excel spreadsheet work. Do I need 2GB RAM?

Currently my laptop has 2gb and wife's has 1gb. I often run short of memory when working on hers. How is Windows 7 with regard to memory?

Suggestions as to which netbooks I should prefer?

Thanks for any help.

You can look at Dell Inspiron Mini. For surfing and e-mails 1GB is more than sufficient. Only glitch, if you can call it so, in Inspiron Mini is the speed of operation. Its a bit slow.

Guys,
I am planning to buy Lenovo G 460 with the following configuration,

Processor = i3 330M 2.13 GHz
RAM = 4GB
HDD = 320GB
Graphics = 512MB
OS = Win 7 home premium.

The quoted price for this laptop in Croma, Bangalore is 38,999/- including some goodies like Pendrive, External HDD, Laptop Bag, LAPtop Vacuum cleaner etc. Do you think it is worth to buy this? Also how is the performance? Is the display good?

OR

Is it better to buy Dell Inspiron 15R with

Processor = i3 350M 2.26 GHz
RAM = 3GB
HDD = 320GB
OS = Win 7 Home basic.

This is available at 34,900/- in Croma, Bangalore with a Belkin simple backpack + Bluetooth headset.

Thanks.

The Lenovo seems to be a better deal. I'm not sure which is a better brand, though.

I think you can get the Dell cheaper than that by calling the customer care and asking for discounts. You'll have to buy online, of course, but from what I've heard, you can get discounts of up to 10-20%.

Well, I have dropped both Lenovo and Dell from my earlier list. I am interested in the latest offering from Acer, the 5740G which comes with i5 processor, 3GB DDR3 RAM, 320GB HDD. Does anybody on this forum have experience with ACER laptops? what about their reliability and customer service?

EDIT : Priced at 37,499/- all inclusive at Croma.

Acer is a good laptop in terms of reliability, build quality and performance. I am not sure about customer service as i never got a chance to visit them! Does 5740G come with graphics card or it uses on board Intel HD? If you go to SP road, you can always get lesser than the above prive. Also, I suggest you to upgrade 4GB RAM and 500 GB HDD.

Hi!

I have been using 5740G for the past 5 months. It costed me 43K. The configuration details are, core i5 430M, ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 graphics, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD. If you want outright performance (esp. graphics) at a decent budget, there are hardly any other options beyond Acer 5740G.

If you plan to for the version with graphics card, I suggest you to go with the HD 5650 instead of HD 5470. The difference in performance is huge even though they both come with 1GB RAM.

Thanks for the reply funda2max. The laptop uses on-board Intel graphics. Can you recommend any particular store in SP road? I am wary of this place because of past experiences.

Shree Infotech is a good shop, you can bargain hard and get for a good price with accessories gifts. I bought three laptops, all are Acer without any issues. She also provides good upgrade offers. For example, i got 4 GB RAM+500GB HDD for just 2000 extra. You have to bargain hard and feel free to walkout if you are not satisfied.

Help me to select the laptop...

I have short listed some Laptops(40K price range)which can fulfill my criteria.
The laptop will be basically used for programing activity by my sister.

I have a concern with the reliability of the system and battery life.
I currently own a Dell Studio 1535 which is 1 year & 7 months old and the system now needs battery replacement.

Kindly suggest me the system from the list.

If you browse the last 20-30 posts, you'll find people claiming to have some issues with Acer, especially battery failures.
