I tried contacting Acer but to no avail. HP people are supposed to get back to me in about 2 weeks. Still waiting for their reply. knowing their lethargic service, will follow up with them.

Dell XPS M1330 was available for under 50,000 before it was discontinued.

I would recommend the Studio 14 compared to Studio 15.

Dell betters HP anyday but Sony's are expensive.

Like Devarshi said M1330 XPS is discontinued now. And Studio XPS 13 is for 59900 without tax and excise. Also if you check the config of a Studio 14 or Studio 16(there isn't any studio 15 as far as i know) with XPS 13 there aint much of a difference so why spend around 15k more? Personally i hate the looks of new XPS 13 and 16.
I just ordered a Studio 14 2 days back and the final price including everything was 43800.

HP is a no and also try not to go for Sony Vaio. They are quiet good no doubt. Am using one for last 1.5 years. However the parts and accessories and service are damn expensive (Also the laptop is expensive,i bought mine for 77k)
The battery backup is not that good as Dell and if battery screws up like mine did it will cost you 9999k for a 6 cell battery and adaptor is for 7.5k. Both screwed in my case, adaptor i got changed in warranty but unluckily battery screwed after warranty. Sony service center will charge you 1500-2000 bucks just to open your laptop if its lapsed warranty.
Trust me battery will screw in a years time.

It is not a rule but I would personally say.

6-9" netbooks are mostly worthless for general usage.
10-12" maybe good for girls and those with thing fingers. I may consider them if they offer good value.
12-14" are good sized with considerable features and weight
15.4 and above are mostly desktop replacements. hardly a few 15.4 are lightweight.

Studio 14 is better in weight. Config is mostly same. If you dont want too large a screen and more weight consider studio 14. My friend uses a Dell 15.4 inches and honestly it looks more of a desktop than a laptop

VFM laptop

Greetings,

What are some entry-level laptops (home users) available in the market these days? I'm looking for something basic; one that does the job (web browsing, checking email, etc.)

Model numbers, prices, and where I can get them (in Mumbai) would be helpful.

Dell XPS 1530 issue:

Has anyone faced the issue with certain keys getting stuck on restarting from a hibernation on the XPS1530?

Although not regularly, I face this issue. I will not be able to enter the password since the keys are stuck (not physically) and clicking on, say "U" (a character in my password), brings up the 'Easy Access Assistant'. The solution that I have now is to use the fingerprint login and then, once in, I will have to bring up the "On Screen Keyboard" and close it and then the problem goes away.

Anyone experiencing this?

I think that's probably your Shift key giving problems.

Guys,
I am looking for a cheap used laptop which is in working condition. I want to do some linux hacking on it.
I can only afford up to Rs.5000 for it and I don't mind however old it is. If its a Thinkpad I can shell out a little more.

Anyone here or your friends have one and want to get rid of let me know.
