I asked a friend to bring it down from the US, family pack. The official apple converter plugs are priced at 1k available here at Chroma. You should look up the reseller list and call them for deals. But I suggest you wait since new iPod's are coming soon.

Intel 2.4 GHz core 2 duo, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HD - why ?
No no I was talking about Mac Hardware prices in India, and just for reference as most of us guys quoted here what hardware we on.

The tablet, when out, won't be a performance machine. It'll be a kind of a netbook. For performance, use the MBP.
Loved the fact you mentioned toast instead of burn. Keeping it real 

And yeah I agree about the real world usability, it will be more to access information and organize rather then real computing. Lets keep our fingers crossed shall we?

where do you think I can pick up Leopard and also inputs on The Mini handling the new OS. thanks.
Thats how it all begins, I am quite sure eventually you will buy your dream Mac. The Mini is a awesome machine by itself. Nice to see you're spreading the good word around.

Limewire is screwing up my Snow Leopard and so are some of the other 32 bit apps to the extent that its almost unusable. I am waiting anxiously for the 64 bit counterparts otherwise this will reasonably affect the Snow Leopard experience.

You can easily just install Snow Leopard without having to install Leopard first. You will not be able to do an upgrade but to do a clean install just hold alt/option when booting the mini and select the DVD when the option comes up.

Tejas- My Mac Mini is the intel one. My friend who gave me SN came down from Bombay :-(
Well, if you can get me the disk I'll find a way to get it down. Thanks for the offer.
Guess - that sounds neat, I'll try that only if i dont get leopard.

Nice thread here. I am a Mac user myself - but I am more business - thus finding it hard to make the complete transition to iWork - specially. Considering all of India and most of the world uses Windows, making two documents out of everything (along with compatibility issues) is a major pain. If anyone has a work-around let me know - am all ears.

Secondly, I use a Macbook - White - Intel chipset. I run a 2GB ram system - but having to use both MAC OS + Windows (I run VM Ware on the side) means there are terrible performance issues sometimes. Things just hang. So I am considering upgrading to 4GB Ram.

I believe you get them cheaper outside the regular Apple Stores.

1. Where can I find them cheapest in Bangalore?
2. I guess I can install it myself. Yes?
3. Will this in any way affect my extended warranty on the Mac?

Why make two? You can open word, ppt and excel files in pages, keynote and numbers respectively and save them back in those formats. No need to save in pages, keynote or numbers format. But, frankly that's just a waste of a mac.

Yes. Look up online the kind of ram used. I guess your laptop will have two slots currently holding 1GB RAM each. You will have to chuck them and buy 2 2GB RAMS. Each costs 1750 in bombay.

Any place that sells DDR2 RAM

YES. Below the laptop, small lid with 4 screws. Take a small spectacles screwdriver to open. Then pop a side clip and the RAMs will pop up. Pull out and replace. Pop it back in place. A google search will give you hundreds of sites showing diagrammatic/pictorial ways to do this.

NO. Unless you damage something which is highly unlikely unless you are brain dead.

You're bloody right. Am going to try this for a bit and then chuck VMWare out the window.

The other thing is I just need to use IE now and then - on demand. Any options apart from a virtualization software?

Or just use Microsoft Office for Mac.

Go to safari preferences. In advanced click on show develop menu in menu bar. This will appear between bookmarks and window button. In develop you can go to user agent and choose.

EDIT: Ok N_C will try if i can find a Dual Layer DVD lying around. Or else next week.

yes i know, but im not really interested in the 3G...if they are going to slash prices on the old stock to move it out, i'd rather just pick that one up...
