Could you enlighten us on the 'free code' part ? Does it mean you are saving $19.99 ?

Hi,

Actually Yes. There is an offer from Apple that if somebody had bought a mac after around 15th June(Not sure. You can check on Apple's website) he is eligible for a free upgrade to Mountain Lion. I applied for that offer as I had bought mine on 26 June and they approved and sent me a redemption code. I put that redemption code in App store and I got to download the Mountain Lion free. I have donloaded the OS. Just going to upgrade it. Waiting for the Electricity situation to improve as most of the northern India is having electricty troubles.

Considering the cost of owning an MBPro, apple should give such updates absolutely free. I paid 1.20 for my mac 4 months back, cant they at-least upgrade my OS free ? I am not asking for moon or sky, just a 1% of what I already paid !!!

Guys who already upgraded, could someone give an idea on what happens to programs like Photoshop or Lightroom. Whatever is installed in the Lion version has to be re-installed to the new OS right ? Anyway, I dont find any reason to upgrade as of now.

+1 to that. I was reading on the Internet and the guys doing the review of Mountain Lion suggested that one should upgrade and 20$ is a small price for it.

What I would say is that if you use a lot of third party softwares you might check there compatibility before upgrading. My machine is very new and I have only a couple of third party softwares so I guess I am safer to upgrade.

I will post my experience as soon as I am able to upgrade..

re: iBhp - Think Different (Team-BHPians on a Mac)

Finally I upgraded my Mac OS to Mountain Lion. The upgrade process was a breeze. After downloading the update it only took 15 minutes to install the update. All the files were there where they were earlier. Repaired disk permissions after the update. Now I was not sure as to which softwares would work after this upgrade. Well most of them including: Transmission, Appcleaner, VLC, Mplayer worked. Right now facing issues with only 2 softwares:
1) Picasa. Although it is working fine. When I try to upgrade it, it gives an error. I guess I will wait for sometime and then install the updates one. But the app is working fine.
2) Audirvana: I was apprehensive about this and it happened. This audio player is not working on Mountain lion. I loved this player and I am not sure where to find the updated one. The latest version which is supposed to run on Mountain Lion costs a bomb (50$). Will have to find something.

Rest everything looks ok as of now. Didnt get a chance to spend much time with the OS. Safari feels improved. Notes and Reminder shortcuts on Dock.

I will dig slightly deeper for icloud integration and the iMessage thing. Will keep you guys posted.

Guys anybody has anything for audirvana please direct me to the right path.

Upgradation process was way much easier and simpler than windows. Also I did not notice any noticeable increase in used disk space in my hard disk after the upgrade.

Did you get a DVD or did you upgrade over net?
Does downloading over net continue if the download gets interrupted? I am afraid that interrupted downloads will bankrupt my broadband limit

You can only upgrade through the app store. I believe the download pauses if your internet connection disconnects and resumes when you tell it to.

Btw i did a clean install instead of upgrading.

Well, the truth is that the first download has to be over the net. After that, you can pause the install and copy the app to a flash drive.
From the flash drive, copy the app to the apps folder of YOUR OTHER Mac and run it. So, if there are multiple Macs, in YOUR household, then you don't have to download it again.

Please read the T&C of the license when installing on multiple machines

Cheers.

re: iBhp - Think Different (Team-BHPians on a Mac)

I'm finding my 2 month old Mac Book Pro to be slow. Is there any reason as to why it should be soo unresponsive at times? Is there anything that I could do? I have a 4GB of RAM and I'm wondering why it is not enough. For the same capacity, infact with a lesser RAM, my Lenovo T410s is much faster and responsive. I'm slowly getting fed up with my MBP. Anyone having any idea on how to improve the performance on my MPB?

Spotlight for Disk Utility. Open the program. Select your Macintosh HD and click on repair disk permissions. Let it run.

Should sort it out.

What would that bring me? Is it going to delete some temporary files? I did that just now and did not find any noticeable improvement on my machine.

What OS are you running?

When you did repair permissions, Did it show many errors? If yes, restart the machine and re run the repair permissions. Also schedule a repair disk for the main hd.

Try and download Cocktail for mac. The best clean up utility. You get a trial version that will help you.
